Well, this is pretty cool if you’re a collector with an all-region Blu-Ray/DVD player who wants to beef up your library with some sharp Arrows. CLICK HERE and make with the wallet noises. If you’re outside the UK, shipping will be a kick in the head, but the discounts are worth it for the films in the catalog US fans of Arrow haven’t yet seen. Hell, I’d buy everything on that list if I had the scratch handy. Act fast, though – the sale ends July 11.
Black Shell Media has been publishing a slew of fun indie games for a while (over 60 titles to date) and as I whittle away at my backlog, I’m finally getting around to playing a bunch of them. Magical Brickout won the coin toss and as a fan of Breakout or Arkanoid-style games, this Early Access game had me at the first ricochet. Indie developer Cunning Force Games has whipped up a fun mix of puzzle and RPG-light gameplay that’s addictive and challenging with a circular play field that may remind a few of the well-aged gamers out there a tiny bit of Star Castle played from the perspective of that game’s titular nemesis.
There’s a basic plot about an evil wizard trapping fairies in magical bricks and using their powers to keep his castle safe while his kingdom domination plans, but you’d like to know how it plays, I’d bet. Pretty darn good, I say. The rotating play field takes a bit of getting used to, but the replayable tutorial does an excellent job of setting up the game and letting you ease into the controls. Using the A and D keys to rotate the play field and SPACE to launch balls (or the right analog stick and X on an Xbox 360 pad), you’re tasked with freeing all the fairies on each board while avoiding bad status bricks and using assorted power-ups to aid in your progress.
From what I’ve played so far, complaints are minimal. Sure, mouse control would be a nice addition to the game because some levels get REALLY hectic. But I think the rotation speed of the board is set to be intentionally methodical for say, billiards and pinball fans looking to line up shots before launching. That and heck, there’s something to be said for LEARNING how to play a game and not expecting it to play EXACTLY like something familiar, right? Yes, the art direction could be described as “hidden object game rustic” (a friend who popped by noted that with a chuckle), but it’s all good that this game rocks that hand-painted style without apologies.
Updates are hitting this one fast and furiously, so there’s a great deal of content to explore that makes the price point more than a reasonable bargain. Even better, there’s also a big sale on Black Shell’s catalog on Steam even as we speak, so I say click on over and buy a few things to add to your library or gift to friends who need more variety in their own collections. Add some Magical Brickout to your life as well – you look like you need to spin this spinner of a game for a spin anyway.
Well, I had a few minutes of free time this year. Emphasis on the HAD part. Then Capcom teamed up with Humble Bundle for a new version of their sale last year that swaps out some titles for some other cool stuff and slaps such a stupidly cheap price tag on all that stuff that it’s IMPOSSIBLE to pass up. Seriously.
Even if you didn’t play Remember Me (it’s fantastic), missed out on Lost Planet 3 (it’s MUCH better than the “my friend hated it” crowd says), Strider (also really good), or DmC (which some REALLY hated, but is still a blast if you go with it and just cut loose), paying a measly $15 for TEN games PLUS a few more FREE games next week, PLUS discount coupons on two more titles (one of them being the outstanding Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen)? That’s the definition of “no-brainer”. Which leads me to a Resident Evil joke I thought up this afternoon, but forgot by the time I got home because I was busy thinking of how to figure out when the heck I’d be able to play all these games.
But hey, that’s what backlogs are for, right? Riiiiight… *sigh*. SOLD.
As if I didn’t have enough of a backlog. Wow. Humble Bundle and Nintendo need to do this more often, especially in the case of the Wii U needing more love in what’s looking like its final year or two as a “current” console. Anyway, a mere buck for Retro City Rampage DX (3DS), Affordable Space Adventures (Wii U) and Shantae & the Pirate’s Curse (3DS AND Wii U versions!) is awesome enough of a steal. But toss ten bucks into the mix for more fun, thirteen for two more games and both those tiers unlock even MORE games in a week’s time. Deal of the century of the week, I say!
Yeah, BUY IT already if you own a Wii U and/or 3DS. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some downloading to do… (*poof!*).

Relaxing yet somehow terrifying, Morgondag‘s RymdResa is one of those great game experiences open to all who give it a shot. The atmospheric space exploration game where no combat is s key feature is also one of the more compelling games you’ll ever play and at $5.99 for the next week, an even better bargain. Gameplay is both zen-like and creep upon you intense as monitoring dwindling resources and shields while trying to survive everything from asteroid collisions to ominously massive space creatures of assorted origin trying to stop your travels cold makes for a great means of killing a few hours at a time. The game is also great for shorter play sessions as well, given that one can level up relatively quickly (within a few minutes), save, quit and pick up later on with no trouble.
Also, Morgondag is working on a new game called Imprint-X, a cosmic-themes puzzler where players need to solve what’s on screen in as few moves as possible. It looks pretty neat and yes you should go sign up on the game’s page when you can.
Ay Carumba! If you have a PSN account, a PS3, PS4, Vita and/or PSP and some money to burn or you just like some excellent deals on a handful of titles, get ready for so many deals that you’d think you were dreaming. This newest PSN Flash Sale has games for all the aforementioned consoles plus movies if you have the time to watch those once you blow your paycheck on a ton of discount game downloads. Trapped indoors thanks to all this snow, are we? Well, Eeee-hee-hee! or something like that. I’m actually trapped indoors thanks to a freelance job that needs to be done before pumpkin hour (midnight), so I’ve no to time to play anything (*whine!*). While I wait for another part of the job to float through the ether this way, I figure I may as well post something quick and painless.
