Gallery: New Raven’s Cry Screenshots + A Little Shanty To Spice Up Your Monday (Arrrr!)

2014-06-27_RC_Shots_Press02

Raven's Cry CoverAhoy! My Monday’s running a wee bit late, but at least some things are working better than they were yesterday (and how!). The laptop isn’t rattling, there’s a nice strong wi-fi signal today (this past weekend was lousy!) and the fine folks at TopWare Interactive shot over a cannonball with four new Raven’s Cry screens that missed me by a mile, but there’s now a nice cannonball-shaped hole in the wall here. And you know what? I’m not even mad about that because I happen to think porthole windows are cool!

I just need to see if Home Depot has any in stock about the size of a ten-pound cannonball hole. I suppose I should let Dean over at Topware know that if he plans to shoot a review copy of the game over to aim for the roof, as I don’t think I need another hole in a wall here (or worse, through the porthole window I just installed.

Say, do ye fancy a shanty that’s not for the wee ones? Good! Topware has also dropped a second adults-only sea shanty called “Hangin’ Wille” that will make some of you laugh and others cringe accordingly. Like the other NSFW shanty “Sail With the Devil”, it’s got some VERY salty language that would make even a dead pirate blush. I’d post both videos here, but I’d probably get a second and better-aimed cannonball from the ladies out there. Hey, the life of a pirate wasn’t all TV series fodder and booze commercials, you know! Anyway, Raven’s Cry will be sailing into stores for PC/Mac, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 on October 14, 2014.

Back with more on this one soon – I should probably invest in a cannonball catcher or something…

Hey, Internet? Get on Up, Already!

Amusingly enough, the dial-up connection I’m using now is FASTER than all the wi-fi spots I’ve visited today. At least for posting stuff, that is. I’ll still need to do a bunch of downloading tomorrow, so it’ll probably be a long day of updating, getting a new banner and background up and so forth and so on. You’d THINK being in a major metropolitan area would mean you have better service than some tiny hamlet out in the boonies, but nope. Anyway, this TV spot for the upcoming James Brown biopic (which I probably won’t like outside of the music) is keeping me slightly happier at the moment, as are a few games I’ve had queued up for this weekend. Eh, I guess I shouldn’t complain too much – at least I can work from almost anywhere provided the internet can keep up with me, grrrr…

Sunday Is A Slow Boat to the Bottom of the Internet Sea…

(thanks, Titanic821!)

Ah, the best laid plans of ice and men. Bleh. Between waking up a bit late and the HORRIBLE connection I have today at both Starbucks I’ve been to and my computer still acting a bit funky (well, it only made that tattling noise once for about a half second, but I’m still worried), I’m not getting what I need to get done DONE. Boo. The connection here keeps dropping, meaning my downloads aren’t completing properly or at all, a few drafts need some fixing thanks to losing the connection before an autosave and so forth and so on. Now I know why they play all that calming new age music here – so people frustrated with the crappy wi-fi don’t go berserk and start slamming their laptops and tablets to the floor. Meh, I’ll need to drag myself out of bed bright and early, I guess. My stupid virus scanner just stopped working after a reboot, which means I need to re-download and install it. Niiiiiice. Okay, that’s it – off to drown my sorrows in whatever ice cream like substance is in the freezer and maybe finish playing a game I need to review…

KROMAIA: All Hail The Kraken Empire!

kromaia_store_banner_03Although I’ve voted for a small batch of Steam Greenlight games since the program was introduced, I tend to avoid most of them until they’re actually completed just to avoid any potential disappointment in that “Hey! I paid for an alpha but the finished game isn’t as fun!” manner. Anyway, the fine folks at Kraken Empire (based somewhere in Spain, I believe) are cooking up a hot little gem called KROMAIA and yes, it’s on Steam Greenlight as well as Desura. If this small team can get everything working as promised, I predict this physics-based space shooter will be one of those great “Did you play this yet?” games of this year (or whenever it’s completed)… Continue reading

Bundle Stars Wants You To Load Up On RPG Deals. I Say Oblige Them!

So, Bundle Stars is having yet another sale. Well, ALL they have are sales, but this time, you can buy some fine RPGs for a dollar or two or spend a tiny bit more for a bundle with assorted games and get one of these titles below in that deal. Anyway, pick one or pick all – it’s your move!

While here in America, the two Two Worlds games get a lot of negativity thrown their way, if you like European-developed open world role playing games or want to experiment with a couple, there’s a lot to love in both. Two Worlds: Epic Edition for a dollar and Two Worlds II for two bucks? DEAL of the week, I say. In either game You’ll get some pretty visuals, very large worlds to explore packed with plenty of challenge, and while not exactly strong on story, both games share a slightly goofy sense of humor that for me, at least was a refreshing change from the darker doom and gloom games in the genre.

The second game is the better looking of the two, but turn off the motion blur effect and down any other visual effects that can make playing the game a queasy thrill ride at times. The story is a bit better in the sequel, but as noted, that oddball humor is still there. I find it amusing that some people who disliked the funny stuff here probably never played one of the later Might and Magic games 3DO made. At times, those were practically comedies wrapped into a dungeon crawling experience. Anyway, more suggestions below the jump…

Ruh-Roh. Turned on the laptop not too long ago to post some stuff and maybe a half hour later, I hear a short, sharp rattling sound that made me jump. I thought it was from one of the phones or computers of the people sitting nearby, but then it happened again and nope, it’s me. More specifically, my not so new laptop. Eeek. Well, it hasn’t happened again, but I’m going to shut it down for the time being and see what happens when I reboot in about an hour. Crap. I have a ton of stuff to do and a quick proofreading job to complete, so this definitely stinks. And I just installed iolo’s wonderful System Mechanic, too!

Back in a bit… (Eeek!)

Dracula Untold Trailer: I’ve Got The Overbite Rewritten Blues…

(Thanks, CBM Trailers!)

Hmmm… suspicions confirmed. Dracula gets retold, so it’s officially “Dracula Untold” now, thus the need for a reboot of this magnitude. Big, loud, full of CG effects and hey, why not let’s get that hot singer du jour Lorde to do the theme song you’ll more than very likely hear as part of the end credits and want to download at some point? *Sigh*… Oh well. The young ones will eat it up, the weekly movie-goers will pay their money as usual, the older curmudgeonly critics will lament the lack of Lugosi’s accented mumbling sexy style, while others trumpet it as “sexier than Twilight” in those tween magazines and online haunts for the Emo chicky/Hot Topic crowd. Everyone wins… well, not really, but so goes the modern vampire movie – into the past with lots of the present 9and too much for my more mundane horror tastes). Eh, October isn’t so far away, so perhaps my mind will be changed? We shall see (as usual)…

CE Week 2014: There May Be An Elio In Your Future (and Sooner Than You Think)…

Elio_Screen-shot-2014-02-25-at-3.50.48-PMI think my eyebrow went up as soon as I saw the silver Elio (named after founder, engineer and CEO Paul Elio) tucked into its comfortably tight space at CE Week because I thought it was yet another electric car trying to capture some of that Tesla thunder. Of course, my eyebrow did a back flip when I found out it wasn’t a car at all, but more like a very sturdy American made gas-powered single door, two seat tri-wheeler that’s coming sometime next year for the ridiculous price of $6,800. Yeah, you read that correctly.

As an affable Joel Sheltrown, Elio’s VP of Governmental Affairs walked myself and The Other View’s Terry Lewis through his pitch, my initial wariness about the Elio vaporized as I realized that the company was trying to revolutionize the transportation market not with a luxury model only a few could afford, but an affordable ride for the masses that’s going to solve quite a few modern problems for almost anyone who wants one… Continue reading

Sniper Elite III Launch Trailer: I’d Say If Mr. Fairburne Is Early… You’re Going To Be Quite Late.

Rebellion’s newest installment in their Sniper Elite series smashes into stores tomorrow in Europe and July 1 here in North America and if my earlier preview impressions hold up in the final build, the game is guaranteed to be a bigger hit than the previous installments. Improvements all around to the visuals, map design and both solo and online gameplay mean this one’s going to eat up a chunk of time among genre fans looking for something new to keep them occupied for a bit. I’ll be lurking close to my mailbox to get the jump on the delivery guy so I can grab my copy of the game from him before he knows it’s gone. Or perhaps I should just let him do his job, as I don’t want to get into trouble for my over-excitement…
