The Walking Dead Season 6 Trailer: Apoca-Rick’s, Wow

(thanks, AMC!)

So, it seems the A-Rick-stocracy is coming to a dramatic close in this upcoming sixth season of The Walking Dead as far as the former Sheriff Grimes running things in Alexandria. But I could be wrong as these trailers are meant to thrill and divert (and do it quite well indeed). Given that we’ve been Rick-rolled by the show in the past, what’s here is looking even more grim than usual. The show’s longevity thus far is due to the usually fine writing, acting and the ability for its showrunners to turn on cast favorites and cut loose some in unexpected (and usually gory) ways. By the end of this particular trailer it’s more than clear that NO one is safe and that Rick-ety footing includes some cast members that should they buy the farm, would upset the fan apple cart somewhat fiercely.

But that, as they say, is showbiz, kids. Things are certainly going to get interesting this October, that’s all I’m saying. Which is a good thing because this summer is lousy with lousy shows amongst a few hidden or under appreciated gems. If AMC’s other walker-fest, Fear The Walking Dead is half as good as its daddy is, It’ll be hard trying to stop people from camping out at home for both shows when they air.

STL Ocarina Serves Up A Double Friendly (And Mildly Undead) Reminder…

AMC_TWD_Gallery__Daryl_Rick_1613_V2Ah, I knew I’d forgotten something was happening this weekend besides people getting sick at (from and of) Comic-Con. Season five of AMC’s The Walking Dead kicks off on Sunday, which means I get to camp out in front of the TV and probably see that premiere episode twice if it’s really good. Yeah, I’ll have to sit through Talking Dead if I do that (okay, it’s not a bad post-show watch, but it can be if the guests are nuts), but that’s a small price to pay.

Anyway, STL Ocarina made me chuckle with this pretty neat rendition of the show’s theme. That’s reminder one. Reminder two is yeah, you probably need a nice musical gift for someone this year for the holidays or some other occasion, so you should think of STL if you’re in need of a nicely quirky yet fully awesome surprise. And hey, if you DO decide to go the ocarina route and do so before October 12, 2014, feel free to get a little discount thanks to STL’s Fall Sale! Save 15% by entering this coupon code: fall2014. As noted, this deal is only valid through 10/12/2014. Okay, that’s my plug of the day (and I only plug stuff I like!) – go do some kind of impulse shopping!

Let’s Go Visit MANHATTAN On Sunday Night (I Hear It’s The Bomb!)…

First, the TOO obvious joke after watching that clip: “I wonder if those computers come in a laptop size!” (canned laughter) Yeah, well… I woke up too early this morning, people – that’s the best you’ll get from me today.

Okay, I actually had to check my cable guide to see if we get WGN America here (nope!), but I’m still in luck as MANHATTAN will be rebroadcast here on WPIX after it premieres. Anyway, it’s not a show about NYC at all, folks. It’s about the Manhattan Project and the creation of America’s first atomic bombs from 1942 to 1946. I happened to see a review of the first episode in the newspaper this morning that recommended the show,so I guess I’ll be checking it out this Sunday.

Hey, Internet? Get on Up, Already!

Amusingly enough, the dial-up connection I’m using now is FASTER than all the wi-fi spots I’ve visited today. At least for posting stuff, that is. I’ll still need to do a bunch of downloading tomorrow, so it’ll probably be a long day of updating, getting a new banner and background up and so forth and so on. You’d THINK being in a major metropolitan area would mean you have better service than some tiny hamlet out in the boonies, but nope. Anyway, this TV spot for the upcoming James Brown biopic (which I probably won’t like outside of the music) is keeping me slightly happier at the moment, as are a few games I’ve had queued up for this weekend. Eh, I guess I shouldn’t complain too much – at least I can work from almost anywhere provided the internet can keep up with me, grrrr…

Game of Thrones 4:10 – Endgame For Some, More Game For The Rest…

Okay, I waited the required amount of days of mourning for those who bought the farm on the final episode of Season 4, so here’s a wrap up of sorts. Well, not having read the books other than bits and pieces of two of them, I’ll say I was nicely surprised at how things ended this season. I knew Tyrian wasn’t going anywhere (yet), so his rescue and revenge bits were lovely to see. Now you know why bathroom doors have LOCKS these days, people.

As for the battle of the century THIS episode (or Brienne of Tarr versus The Hound), it was certainly fierce and bloody, but I figured it wouldn’t be a head-popping as that last big one on one fight on the show. I guess that’s the end of one of these characters, but as we don’t see an actual death, I wouldn’t be surprised if that old dog pops up in a future season. Of course, that bit has been done already, so perhaps he’s gone for good. Oh well. There are plenty of other mean men (and ladies) left on the show to get ticked off at…

A “Gentle” Reminder From Game of Thrones…

So, today is Father’s Day and yes, every daddy-o on Game of Thrones has got problems of a sort to deal with or has been a problem to someone else that’s been resolved (or will be at some point). Tonight’s the season finale, so it’ll be edge of the seat time while it’s rolling out fates for assorted dads and non-dads alike. My own father is no longer with us these days, so save for this sole post I’m taking the bulk of today off just to get a little breather before I reboot Monday and resume a bunch of stuff I need to follow up on. If you own dad/granddad or any pop you know is still around (and you get along these days), do something nice for him today – that’s an order, by the way.

Game of Thrones S4: Promo Onslaught In Full Effect…

Warning! If you still didn’t see the premiere, here and below there be SPOILERS! The premiere episode wasn’t even an hour cold when HBO started dropping videos galore and making me crack up because I think this was the fastest they’ve ever updated their YouTube page with GoT content. I’d have posted it last night, but I was busy with some other stuff (a few other shows and working on a bit of art). Anyway, here you go and I bet more is on the way, as this season seems to be one that’s going to be more memorable than the last one on a few fronts

Hey, I did say this post had spoilers in it, didn’t I? Of course, if you’ve read the books, you know most of this stuff already. On the other hand, as the show deviates from the books in a few very interesting ways, it’s great to see how the show’s writers have knitted things quite well into the overall story to date. So far, so good… and that second episode looks to be even more interesting. Six more days… only six more days…
