Bleh, it must be the weather today or something, but the internet has been DEAD here to-day. I spent something like three hours trying to post stuff and between pages crashing or not loading when I try to save and do other stuff, I’m not a happy camper. Well, I think THIS post will go up, as it’s image-free. Let me see what happens and if it works, I’ll try getting a few more up. What a stupid day… otherwise, I’m pretty happy, thanks for asking.
I’m only vaguely aware of the whole Sword Art Online phenomena in Japan, so I was certainly pleased to see that there’s a Vita game coming to North America this summer courtesy Namco Bandai Games. I guess it’ll be catch up time for me, as it’s turning out to be a very good year for Sony’s handheld in terms of new properties and publishers taking chances on niche IP. Namco Bandai is going to be dropping more news about this soon (the press release says in about a week), but in the meantime, check out the character art and screens below the jump…
It’s almost as if HBO wants to get you all spoiled if you’re not yet caught up on the show, so beware from this point onward:
I’d been thinking on and off about restarting my reading of the books (I didn’t get far into them years back thanks to too much to do and not enough time to read as much as I’d have liked), but I think I prefer waiting until the show is over and done with as I like where the arc is going. Granted, the White Walker reveal (see that episode for details!) might be a bit much in this extremely busy season.
Natalie Dormer looks like a cat. That is all I’ll say about that. Anyway, I think her character actually thought she was going to be the Queen and although it looks as if she’ll get a second shot at it, I say it’s not happening anytime soon unless Cersi is gone and not coming back. Of course, I’d say Cersi is too necessary to get killed off this season, but that’s a huge laugh if you think about it, Right George?
Oh, never mind. He’s still going on about that Purple Wedding incident, so I’ll let him talk. Hey, I bet anyone who tries to interrupt Mr. Martin ends up in a box at some point. Or just silenced for long enough that he gets his point across. Don’t mess withe author when he’s holding court or you may end up losing your head once he does…
And finally, here’s what’s coming next Sunday. I tend to only watch these teasers only once (after each episode) and try my best to forget about them afterwards. Why? As noted a few times, I prefer going in cold and having as few things spoiled as possible. That and I despise guessing which scene goes where and editing in trailers always makes it look as if stuff is happening that doesn’t (or won’t for a bit). Anyway, you know the drill – see you next Sunday, “same Bat time, Same Bat channel…”
Let’s see now: All NEW stories featuring Geof Darrow and Frank Miller’s Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot, Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse’s Resident Alien, Brendan McCarthy’s Dream Gang, Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, and Andy Kuhn’s Wrestling with Demons, Damon Gentry and Aaron Conley’s Sabertooth Swordsman, and the return of David Mack’s Kabuki? Yup. 48 pages, five bucks. At a comic shop near you and most likely on Dark Horse Digital, too. Nice.
Okay, still not done, but more complete. Sorry for the lack of more stuff to read today. I’m working on a quick freelance job which is just about done and I haven’t had the chance to post. If I’m done in an hour or so, I’ll add one or two quickies before I turn in for the night. “Alrighty, then!” back to fixing sentences for fun and profit.
So, Bound By Flame is looking to be your next epic action RPG experience and as seen in that work in progress video above, it’s coming along nicely, especially if you like a more arcade-like style of gameplay. This isn’t even trying to be “realistic” in the way some folks want, but to me, that’s the beauty of developers all doing different things. If every game played EXACTLY the same, I’d be one bored stiff gamer looking fora new hobby, that’s for sure.
As for the music, composer Olivier Derivière (who did the fantastic score for Remember Me) has whipped up a beautiful, varied score that features a chorus and some wonderful “vocal textures” as you’ll hear above. Developed by Spiders and published by Focus Home Interactive, Bound By Flame hits stores for consoles (PS3 and Xbox 360) and lands on PC via Steam on May 9, 2014. Back with more if there’s more coming before it ships – I hope so, as this one’s looking very interesting indeed…
I’d almost forgotten about the hot mess that was Sharknado and its upcoming (and guaranteed campier) sequel, Sharknado 2: The Second One, but Funko sure hasn’t, as it’s going to be releasing a Pop! vinyl figure in June for those of you who want a little reminder that SyFy is going to invade your television space on July 30, 2014 with that sequel.
Funko is also dropping eight (no, nine!) Pop! vinyls for Arrested Development, which is cool and all… but where the heck are the Bluth babes? That not hit but cult show wasn’t a total sausage-fest, you know, so I’m a tad ticked that the ladies aren’t getting Pop!-ed (yet). Or perhaps I’m missing something because I’m too busy (lazy!) to check the Funko site. Ah well, all is right in the world otherwise… Maeby!
Hmmm… perhaps this is one of Tobias Fünke’s ideas, as he’s the only one getting a rare “chase” figure? Aha. I see what’s going on here. Well, hopefully, this nefarious plan pans out better than anything Tobias ever did. That and if this DOES all work out, he’ll want to change the company name to Fünke-o… Hmmm… I dunno about that plan, mister man…
Okay, it’s just a few days old and not really “vintage”, but one has to be clever in disguising this sort of thing, you know. Anyway, I think I did this while waiting for yet another download to complete. Hey, a guy’s got to do SOMETHING with his hands that’s useful or creative, right? I guess this counts as one of those two (I hope)…
The past year plus has been quite good for fans of Namco’s Tales series here in North America as we’ve been getting some nice games and more on the way in a relatively “speedy” manner. Granted, not ALL of the games in the long running franchise have made it stateside, but Hideo Baba did promise last year at the Namco event I attended that fans would see some nice surprises over time from the eternally busy Tales Studio.
Tales of Heart R is one big surprise for Vita owners and here, Tales of Xillia 2 is the other, as it coming this August exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Screens below the jump and that $129.99 Collector’s Edition is below. Yes, pre-ordering this or the plain vanilla standard edition is probably a good idea as some retail locations will only stock what their customers have actually put down some money for and Tales games have the tendency to sell out rather quickly.
Uh-huh. I’ve heard all the excuses, people. You KNOW you have time to catch up because you can dump most or all of those crap “reality” shows that are ALL the same and actually be entertained by real writing and people getting paid to act well (as opposed to real fake writing and people acting badly wasting your time).
Anyway, it’s not as if Game of Thrones needs more fans watching the show on Sunday instead of waiting to binge away, but it couldn’t hurt if it gets even more people camping out for an hour just to get another season extension so we can see more of what’s inside the heads of George R. R. Martin’s head (as well as the folks who script the show once they commiserate with the man himself).
On the other hand, now that Sunday has become the new Thursday (remember when THAT was the big TV night?), it’s mighty tough to choose what to watch if you’re not a crazed DVR-head packing every free hour with all the stuff you want to watch…
