Carrie Remake Trailer: Spoiler Theater Is Actually Just More Deja Vu…

Amusingly enough, this trailer from the upcoming Carrie remake has actually been criticized a bit too harshly for basically spoiling the entire film even more so than most other genre flick trailers. While this may indeed be true, it’s actually just copying the same marketing from the 1976 original, which by the way, WORKED fine in filling seats way back then. Check out both (look up! Look down!) and see what I’m babbling about.

Granted, Brian De Palma’s film was probably a great deal more shocking back then this remake will be seen as when it hits theaters, but we’ll see if the actors in the new film can deliver performances as memorable as those in the original. As always, class… we shall see… we shall see…

Despicable Me 2 Toy Profile of the Week (7): Put Your Hands (And Minions) Together!

2012-12 012 2012-12 026 2012-12 024

Two more minions of nostalgic design
Can soon be yours (and perhaps mine)
They’re made in quite a famous shape
(I say “Potato!”, not “Egg!” nor “Grape!”)

Minion Carl, he’s that hot tater tot
Build him as you like (and don’t spare a part!)
Well, you can’t quite make him double-faced
That would be weird (and quite hard to place!).

2012-12 012 2012-12 019 2012-12 021

And as for Minion Mr. Tim,
I’d say many will fall for him
He’s quite the master of disguise
With mustache, hat and beady eyes!

Both come to you from Thinkway Toys
And make great gifts for girls or boys.
And collectors with shelf space to spare
Will also want to grab this pair!

Shown above, Despicable Me 2 Build-A-Minion (7” Model Kits)

  • Build Mr. Tim Minion/Party Minion
  • Build Baby Carl/Party Minion

Age: 4+; Approximate Retail Price: $14.99

Available starting in May at a toy retailer near you. Despicable Me 2 hits theaters on July 3, 2013.

Defiance “Great Place” Trailer+: Brave New Perspective…

So, DEFIANCE is up and running mostly fine on multiple platforms (and with some of the usual MMO launch issues that settle out after a patch or two) and people seem to be playing and enjoying it, but it still looks as if many are waiting for the show to start up before taking that plunge.

I’d gather that there’s still some confusion about this being a “license” when in fact, the game and show were created simultaneously and meant to bounce off of each other in a way that’s new to both mediums. That’s not hard at all to wrap your head around, but we’re in the age of absolute skepticism about the wrong things, especially when there’s no big explanations necessary other than what you “get” once you open your eyes and look and/or pick up a controller and play.

Between the game, show and additional content such as the Ark Hunter Chronicles that add to the lore, it’s clear that DEFIANCE has been well planned and so far, executed to break new ground across the board in the TV and game space. Now, it only needs MORE people willing to see what it’s all about and hop into both the show and game with equal relish and respect for the team’s brave new worlds…

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut Random Screenshot of the Day: Georgeus Interruptus…

DPTDCLOGO

05_George Woodman_w Yeah, yeah, we NORMALLY do our Saturday Evening Post about the swingin’ Swery65 Bar, but I just got an URGENT call followed by an email from Greenvale’s own Sheriff George Woodman, who’s a bit pissed off at me. OK, he’s REALLY pissed off at me and he’s probably got a good reason for that. Hey, I’m just trying to make these updates as entertaining as possible, so I tend to stretch the truth a little. Anyway, he’s mad because I’ve been portraying him as a bad-ass apple practical joker who’s mean, cranky and always going after FBI Special Agent Francis York Morgan (just call him York!) in some not so good ways. Anyway, George wants you to know that he’s a really nice guy and has a VERY sensitive side few get to see because he’s SUPPOSED to be a tough no-nonsense sheriff and isn’t supposed to be a super “nice” guy when he’s ON the job. Anyway, a few more things about George you should know (according to him):

To all the single ladies in the house, he likes long walks on the beach, classical music and fine dining (despite Greenvale not having a beach or wine being served at the A&G Diner where he can be found nearly every day – those home fries are killer!). George also writes the occasional poem or song and, hey… he even sent along an email with some sample lyrics from something he’s done recently to show he’s got a good sense of humor about himself:

Some people call me the space cowboy, yeah
Some call me the gangster of love
Some people call me Maurice
Cause I speak of the pompat…

HEY, wait a minute there! Those are the opening lines from that classic rock song The Joker by the Steve Miller Band! Damn you George… you almost got me, too. Hmmm. I just got another email from him with a picture – he’s giving me the finger and sticking his tongue out in it. Yeah, he’s a TOTAL jerk after all, folks…

DPDC PS3 US EFS 2D RealStill, don’t let that stop you one bit from pre-ordering your own copy of Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut, coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 on April 30, 2013. Featuring updated visuals, PlayStation Move and 3D TV support, new content and more, you’ll absolutely love the game for the stuff outside of Woodman’s little power plays for your undivided attention. I think he’s just ticked off that York is getting more attention than he ever has. Personally, I really do think there’s something wrong with the guy, (but don’t you DARE tell him I said that as I think he’s got quite a mean streak)…

suda 51_swery 65Still, I guess it was fine working for a famous big shot Game Director like Swery 65 (shown here with another famous big shot game director, Suda 51), as I can’t recall ANY reports of on-set problems while the game was being made. Sure, a few makeup and catering people went missing (and have never been found), but you know how it is in this business with a high turnover rate among certain types of low-level employees, right? Hmmm… maybe I should do some more digging on this Woodman character, as York seems like he’s a bit tied up with that Red Seeds Killer case and I think he could use some assurance that ol’ George isn’t a suspect…

Iron Man 3 Fandango TV Spot: What, This IS Cinerama?

OK, we get TWO TV ads in one day for this upcoming soon to be blockbuster? Hey, don’t blame me, blame Marvel for posting them so far apart. Anyway, what’s up with the oddball aspect ration? Sure, it looks awesome, but WordPress defaults these videos into such a tiny size that this will look like a Band-Aid in the post. Eh, I’m SURE you all know you can play this full screen so you can see what’s going on, right? Anyway, I wouldn’t mind finding out if anyone out there actually has a working Cinerama screen setup to show off, as I’d love to see some of those old films in that crazy wide view they ran in. I’ve only caught some stuff on TCM, but no TV out there can do the format justice…

Game of Thrones Season 3 Recap (1): Lessons Learned On A Few Fronts…

Among other things, let’s see now:

  • Lannisters always pay their debts (unless they’re to other Lannisters)
  • You CAN survive a green magic hellfire explosion if you land on some big rock in the sea that saves your life (ouch.)
  • Mothers DO make mistakes that make for nice plot kicks in the ass
  • Undead-looking armies seem to be REALLY bad at killing slow, fat guys.
  • The new people you meet are the same as the old people you meet… just newer
  • And most importantly, “Men don’t need nipples” (ouch!)

Episode 2 is Sunday. If you don’t have HBO yet, you’re welcome (sorry for the spoilers, thought)…

Toy Fair 2013: Mezco Toys Brings Chucky Back + Some Living Dead Dolls Banner News…

TF2013_banner

Mezco Logo B

Chucky smallSay a happy “Hello!” to Mezco’s 15″ Mega Scale Chucky doll. Well, say that happy “Hello” NOW, as once he arrives on your doorstep, it may be the last we see or hear of you. This latest incarnation, available for pre-order NOW and shipping out in September 2013, is decked out in his colorful Good Guys outfit, comes packing a knife (well, not a REAL knife, but you do have some in the kitchen he’ll get a hold of, right?) and will look quite good in your collection. You may want to add a steel-barred locked cage to your shelf, though. Plunk down $90, and he shows up a few months from now all ready for your collection. You can pretend that’s because he walked all the way from the factory, but do you REALLY want to take this fantasy that far?

CHUCKY banner

Me, I’ll just pass out and dream about Jennifer Tilly chasing after me with an inflatable axe in one hand and a Tiffany doll from Bride of Chucky in the other (hmm, does Mezco have one of these for sale?) because there are much more *fun* ways to leave the planet. Of course, the actual GF will be chasing me with a REAL axe if I keep this stuff up, so it may be a messy demise after all… Ouch, ouch, ouch!!!

As for that Living Dead Dolls banner, read on…

Kick-Ass 2 Trailer: Alternate Reality Check, Please…

Well, I guess a world full of Iron Man suits zipping around is whole hell of a lot better thing to imagine than one where every super-powered wannabee was completely and unflinchingly NUTS, right? Imagine the “crimes” being dealt with by costumed crazies that thought the smallest offense was punishable by a beat-down or worse? Well, that’s been done a few times in comics, books and films, so I won’t cover that ground again. That said, Kick-Ass 2 looks like it’ll be a winner, provided the culture here isn’t too turned off by the ultra-violence. Fat chance on that, by the way, as we seem to LOVE being outraged by mass media more than actual violence in some cases. “This town NEEDS an enema!” Indeed. From the brain down, folks…

Black Rock Shooter: The Game Trailers: Girl Power, PSP-Bound…

FINALLY, after a long delay, this 2011 PSP anime action game from developer Image Epoch is coming stateside courtesy of Nippon Ichi Software America. It’s one of those imports I’ve been waiting to play in English just so I can find out what’s up with the story and characters without having to dig out a few dictionaries and translation aids. Anyway, April 23, 2013 seems to be the date to watch out for on PSN in North America (and April 24 overseas), so I’ll do just that. Update! NISA just posted a new trailer right after the one above, so you get another look at more of the game (and some gameplay!):

Now, I just need to decide WHICH of my three PSP’s to download the game onto. I’ll probably end up using the newer model and/or my Vita if the game is compatible.

Iron Man 3 TV Spot #4: That’s A LOT Of Iron In The Air…

One thing that’s going to get a lot of people into those theater seats is all those Iron Man suits zipping around like they’re coming off an assembly line. I can’t imagine this in real life, as all you’d see outside would be Fat Iron Man, Too Low Pants Iron Man, Homeless Iron Man, Slow Old Lady Iron Man (they fly in packs), Letting That Dog Poop On The Street And Not Cleaning It Up Iron Man and a few other annoying and impervious to damage Iron Man suits in action. Bleh. It’s the new Rascal (or Weasel, given that company’s legal woes of late). And THIS, dear reader, is WHY we have movies to watch. You get the hell away from real life for two hours at a time (not counting 20 minutes of trailers)…
