Random Film of the Week(end): The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek

(thank you, lachambreverte!)

“Some are born great,
some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrust upon them.”

Wm. Shakespeare, Twelfth Night (Act II, Scene IV)

MoMC_still Sure, that title may make it sound a little too much like some overly pompous religious themed film, but director Preston Sturges’ great, outrageous 1944 comedy is still one of the more hilariously subversive Hollywood movies of that era when the Hays Code was clamping down hard on movies and forcing directors to come up with all sorts of means to get around some pretty stupid and strict rules. For some reason, those censors must have been asleep at the wheel as The Miracle of Morgan’s Creek is still one of the funniest movies ever made, period. If your eyebrow is hovering above your head like a skeptical cartoon character, go rent or yank out from your movie collection Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up and watch this afterward. I bet you’re laughing harder at the older film, so pony up five cents now and mail it my way after you lose that bet…

Game of Thrones Costumes Take A Little Tour (Cleaned & Hopefully Coming To Your Town)…

A lot of very lucky people will soon get the chance to get pretty up close and personal with the costumes worn by their favorite or not so favorite cast members from the hit HBO series. I’m not one for huge crowds pressing me out of the way to get within sniffing distance (of the costumes, not ME, silly). So unless I can have some alone time, I’m not going to bother getting trampled by a horde of squealing fans while I try and snap a picture or two. I think this will be in NYC soon, so I may make an exception if it’s around when I go to see some games in April at a few press events I need to head to. We shall see, I suppose…

Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut Random Screenshot of the Day: “Sunday! Sunday! Sunday!”

“Hey, Not so loud!”, you sputter out
It’s been a long, long night.
You spent a good part drinking too much
(I think there was a fight.)

That Swery65 Bar, it’s quite the raucous place
Where too much booze and cheek pinching
got you punched in the face.

It was quite the sight to see you rise
when some blow sent you flying
You sailed into the ladies room
and thought that you were dying!

From what I heard after you left
it was the first time ever
They had toss a tourist out (using that hidden lever!)

So up you rise, your head throbbing
But hey, man – you’re alive
I’d say a decent hot breakfast
is the best way to survive

So put a pair of fresh pants on
(well, after a nice shower)
And tilt yourself on down the street
where you can regain some power.

The A&G Diner is the place you want to be
The food’s good and cheap, the wait staff’s great
And they make damn good coffee!

DPDC PS3 US EFS 2D RealWell, OK… your first weekend in Greenvale wasn’t a total bust (other than the fat lip you now temporarily own), as now the locals know who you are and know you can sort of hold your liquor (to a point). Still, watch it after that fifth drink, buddy. The ladies don’t like you sizing them up, especially with a killer on the loose and you the new guy in town (suspicious and grabby? Yeah, that’s a good way to get KO’ed). Anyway, after breakfast (don’t forget to tip your waitress!), you may want to relax the rest of the day. You know, keep a low profile and all?

SWERY65_tinyMy suggestion: Get a copy of Deadly Premonition: The Director’s Cut, coming April 30, 2013 exclusively to the PlayStation 3. Even if you’ve never played the Xbox 360 version, the improved visuals, PlayStation Move and 3D TV support, new content, Trophies and more will have you staying indoors for long enough that the residents will forget all about your transgressions (well, until NEXT weekend when you’re back at that bar). Remember, not only is Sheriff Swery watching your every move, he actually EXPECTS you to behave while you’re in his town. Yeah, he owns the bar too, and the diner and everything else, but he likes that cowboy hat the best, I hear…

Eeek. I guess this is a good thing, though. I had a personal target this month to do a solid 150 posts no matter what. Five posts a day isn’t that big a deal for me, but I’ve had a hard time keeping that schedule in the past thanks to too many distractions and yeah, a bit of “Oh, I’ll update that tomorrow!” going on. Well, so much for THAT attitute, huh? I’m currently at 160 posts (which doesn’t include this brief-ola update). Let’s see now: there’s over a week to go in the month and I’m still working on some games and a tech product or two to review. Ho-kay, that’s really awesome and all, but how do I top this productivity spurt next month and onwards?

I guess I’ll not even worry one bit about that and let things happen as they happen, so (as always) we shall see. Off to trek home and make some dinner (a bit late, but that’s what happens when I get rolling)…

Gallery: DuckTales

DT NES_WFT WOO-HOO! What’s old certainly has gotten a MAJOR makeover, as WayForward Technologies takes the classic NES game to the next level with its DuckTales “remake”, set to hit Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U this summer. Screenshots don’t do this one justice, so make sure to check out that cool and funny trailer (and sing along, too, as you KNOW you remember all the words to that song! “Not ponytails. Not cottontails. DUCKTALES!!!”):

D&D_art_small (Cue stereotypical booming RPG narrator voice along with equally stereotypical epic-sounding fantasy music) NARRATOR: “And so, it came to pass, after many years of online fire and calamity that Capcom doth finally decree that the gamers worldwide long starving for a pair of decent fantasy hack & slash arcade games long consigned to history’s dusty trails become updated and set loose as one whole product to be forever named Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. And that game, now headed to the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Windows PC (developed for Capcom by Iron Galaxy and priced at $14.99/€14.99/£11.99/1200MSP) was indeed met by the cheers and praises of the long-starved masses destined to play until the long hours of the dark night have turned to day… and beyond!”

Or something like that. I’ll just shut up with the silly stuff and run the gallery below:

Review: Bloody V3 Multi-Core Gun3 Gaming Mouse – Shooter’s Paradise?

Bloody V3 MouseThrow a dead stuffed cat anywhere on the Internet and you’ll hit a gaming mouse review or recommendation. It’s a tough and packed market these days, what with big name companies getting their products out through big PC gaming tournaments worldwide, all sorts of promotions, pro review recommends and community board high fives pumping up interest in the best and often, most expensive mice you can buy. Then there’s A4Tech and their quiet storm of putting out some decently awesome peripherals and seeing what happens as folks like me try them out. Well, without a glowing trumpet or flaming flag in sight, I can safely report than the Bloody V3 Multi-Core Gun3 Gaming Mouse is a really awesome deal at $39.99 (or less if you shop around) and it’s also an excellent mouse FPS fans should take to like ducks to water. Packed with features (and some nice goodies inside the box that make it an even better value), the V3’s only drawback is the option to buy into what amounts to a cheat upgrade that allows even more functions to an already solid peripheral. PDP Wants You to Have A Happy Easter (And Buy A New Controller or Three)…

pdp_easter Now, THAT’S an Easter basket I’d hunt down any day of the week. Nope, I’m not one of those traditional yearly egg-coloring folks anymore (I used to hand-paint them back in the day, so you missed some doozies like an Alien-themed egg and other horror gems), but I don’t mind a crazy colored controller in the house. Fortunately, PDP’s cool range of Rock Candy controllers for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii/Wii U are all here to add some holiday cheer.

Granted, I know most of you will be splayed out on the couch and half passed out from that chocolate bunny, jelly bean and Marshmallow Peeps cocktail you scarfed down too quickly and waiting for someone to hand you a Pepto-Seltzer cocktail chaser. But if you’re immune to tummy troubles or just avoid the holiday sugar rush altogether, why not get some gaming on with a funky new controller?

Young Justice: Legacy Cover Art Revealed: Revenge (of Sorts) Is Sweet…

Young Justice Legacy_coverOK, so the show is dead, killed off somewhat unceremoniously by Cartoon Network (the curse of poor ratings, most likely) but that’s not stopping the development on this game fans have been eagerly waiting for since it was announced. Here’s the official cover art for Young Justice Legacy, set to hit the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PC (and hopefully a few more platforms). Developer Freedom Factory is going all out to make sure its upcoming action/RPG is one those fans of the show will really get into and definitely make a day one purchase. It would be nice to see sales hit a fast high and sustain that for a bit so CN could reconsider its termination of the cartoon, but that’s a harder thing to do with a niche series no matter how much the most loyal fans shake their fists at their monitors and cable boxes.

As always, (yeah, repeat after me, folks): We Shall See…

Despicable Me 2 Toy Profile of the Week (5): Plush Rush!

2012-11 087 2012-11 059 2012-12 031 2012-12 034

Three new plush figs from DM2
are this week’s bad poem you’ve to view.

As these three toys aren’t at all rotten
Agnes, Unicorn and Minion Dave

They’re special, as each activates
with sound or lights and functions great
Agnes speaks, her unicorn chimes
And Dave’s eyes pop (not from my rhymes!)

All priced quite fair, so grab them all
And decorate your room or hall
Stop by here this time next week
For more to make your wallets weak!
