Here’s a good reason to quit smoking (or cooking) all that meth and start saving up some of that cash you’re throwing out the window like a certain Mr. Pinkman. $300 (or less if you shop around online) will get you this set of 16 Blu-Rays packed full of every episode of the show PLUS a ton of special features (or whatever 55 hours weighs these days). So yeah… “Fire in the hole, bitch!” – go dig up one of those barrels you buried in that secret spot and buy up a ton of these to give out as gifts if you’re so inclined. As for exactly what’s in the box, just peek below the jump for the long press release… go on, you KNOW you want to…

A Little Doctor Who Primer For the New Folks…
Someone sent me this image a few days back but didn’t tell me where it came from but fortunately, some digging reveals it’s from this site packed full of memes and such. I didn’t poke around there at all, as it looks like a serious time trap, a black hole of clock eating madness that will suck you in and make your productivity disappear faster than a roll of quarters going into a slot machine in Vegas. Although… the last time I was in Vegas (Classic Gaming Expo 2007 I think), I think I only spent ten bucks gambling and won seven or eight back. I wanted to throw more money away, but I held out because I needed that cash to blow on a few games for the library. But I digress (as usual). Hopefully that cheat sheet above gets some of you not into the good Doctor to start tracking down episodes to watch before that new Doc makes his appearance. Just don’t try and watch TOO many episodes in one shot. You’ll either hear that main theme in your sleep or the sound of that TARDIS parking brake grinding away burrowing into your skull…
New Grand Theft Auto TV Spot Is 60 Seconds of “Well, There Goes The Neighborhood…”
Well, that was… educational. Every time I see footage and screen shots from this upcoming wonderful time stealing enterprise called GTA V, I have to wonder how Rockstar Games keeps pulling this off, as each title in the long running series has been setting and raising all sorts of bars in terms of interactivity and storytelling. Yeah, yeah, I know many of you buy in for the mayhem you can cause, but when you get to the story and let it play out, they’re always extremely well written (and easily beat much of what Hollywood has to offer to death) and highly enjoyable. September 17th, people – start practicing that fake cough for that telephone call you’re going to make saying you’ve a bad case of the “flu” so you can get that week off to dive in and play around… you KNOW you’re going to…
Gravity TV Spot 1: Up In The Air, Too…
Of course, only those of you out there who saw that particular George Clooney flick from a few years back will get that title, but hey, I like to test you folks every now and then. Anyway, this does look really interesting and hell, it’s an effects film with actual, um… gravity when it comes to its plot. That and hell, a film where you have the paradox of an outer space setting (you can’t get any bigger than that) forcing you to pay attention to its two main characters for probably the entire running time AND you’ve got no choice but to sit and watch Clooney and Bullock try to stay together or else (insert romantic comedy and on screen chemistry jokes here) makes this at least worth seeing once on a big screen. Hey, imagine if this did well enough to get made into a crazy Broadway show like that dopey Spider-Man yanking the tourists in by the hotel load? Someone get Taymor on the line! All we need now are Mummenschanz and a bunch of sturdy harnesses…
Welcome to Brain Battle MCMXI (The Struggle Continues!) Featuring Kirk & Spock…
I have the most raging headache right now, but type away I must. Nothing particular brought it on, just General Stress, Major Pain and trying to wean myself off coffee (yeah, I know, I know…) on a Monday. Woo. Not a good idea, but I’ll try anything once (allegedly). Hmmm. Maybe the trip to the market to buy stuff to make soup with will ease my pain. If not… “Now, the Lerpa!” Ouch. Someone change the channel, please? I like Star Trek a lot… but not IN my head and definitely not “Amok Time” in my head. I’ve had that fight music blasting between my ears most of the day already!
And now you do as well. Either that or you’ll hear chimes all night from those shaky bells in that first video… ouch. Off to locate an aspirin.
The Eighth Doctor Returns For Another One Night Stand…
Sure, some of the more negative longtime fans of the show didn’t care for this one-shot TV movie that popped up on TV in 1999 with a new Doctor (played by Paul McGann) for the first time since the show was canceled ten years earlier, an American setting, main villain played by Eric Roberts (!) and a plot considered “lacking” by a few of those aforementioned followers of the series. On the other hand, the Doctor was BACK and like it or not, number eight is part of the long history of the character. Of course, as he only appeared in that ONE reboot, it’s going to be shown right after the special. Check it out if you’ve never seen it – it’s not bad for what it is, and hey – it also helped a little bit in getting the Doctor back on TV as a regular show, right?
Game of Thrones Season 3 DVD/Blu-Ray Deleted Scene: HBO Double Twists The Knife!
A long wait reminder AND a deleted scene tease? Stab, STAB! Gee, thanks HBO! Oh alright… it’s not THAT bad, but still… Season 3 isn’t out on disc until next February 18, 2014 and the world could end by then! WHAT will we GoT fans do then? OK, “die miserably” are the operative words, but I’m not going down without a fight. Of course, those of us with HBO On Demand have been and can still catch this anytime we want until doomsday (or the next Season of GIRLS, ha, ha, ha). You sort of don’t realize how cool On Demand is until you run into people who don’t have or use it (which is one huge reason why you still see disc-based movies and TV shows selling). That said, I’ll probably not re-watch this past season thanks to the rather depressingly high body count from episode 9 (ouch, ouch). Eh, I’ll probably be one of those clowns who shells out for a complete series set once that finally comes out (provided the planet hasn’t friggin’ MELTED by then), so I guess I’m just complaining for practice at this point…
That Final Clock Is Ticking Away On Breaking Bad…
Yeah, yeah – I haven’t been posting a lot about these final eight episodes because hell, everyone else is and I really have nothing new to add that’s already been discussed. Anyway, if you know me, you also know that I absolutely HATE over-speculation about the stuff I watch and prefer going in cold for these shows (well, except for one spoiler-heavy review of tonight’s episode that really didn’t need to say so much, but I figured I’d read it and see how badly a spoiler-heavy review could be written). As for what happens after this, I’m actually hoping that’s that for BB despite Vince Gilligan wanting to give Bob Odenkirk’s corrupt (but hilarious) lawyer Saul Goodman his own spin-off show at some point in the future.
While I think Odenkirk can indeed carry a show (watching him through the past few seasons has been wonderful and I almost thought his number was up a few times, but he’s always weaseled out of trouble), without Walter White around to add that air of menace, it’s going to be a show about Saul and his other clients which actually might be good if Gilligan and his writing team can keep things in a similar dramatic/comic mix as BB. On the other hand, if it’s just a crazy client a week show or something that feels as if it’s running off fumes from BB’s success on AMC, it’ll fall flat and maybe last a season or two. I guess it also depends on if anyone from BB is still alive at the end of the final episode, as a cameo or first episode surprise in the new show might sweep in other skeptics who feel the same as I do.
Of course, Gilligan IS the Skipper here (and a damn fine one, at that), so whatever he decides, Saul is in good hands (and hell, he’d probably be relieved that his number one client isn’t around to give him fits whenever he calls on the phone or pops into his office unannounced)…
The Hollow Crown Trailer: Shakespeare for Smarties…
I’d actually not heard of The Hollow Crown series until I saw this trailer and found it pretty amusing because I can see those who don’t know the Bard’s works seeing this and immediately getting a Game of Thrones vibe (in that they’d mistakenly thing this is a GoT rip-off, eek!) when they should have been paying more attention in English class. Anyway, I guess I may take a peek at this set at some point as you can’t really muck up Shakespeare too much if you round up enough talent who knows the man’s work inside and out, right? I know, I know… I just got a serious “What fools these mortals be…” from that based on a few not-so hot adaptations. OK, I’m happier than usual to-day, so I’m letting my sunny side show.
Vitameatavegamin Could Have Been the Red Bull of the 1950’s…
(thanks, Ruthyramon!)
Well, it it actually existed, that is… I think it’s Lucille Ball’s birthday or it just passed or something. My crystal ball is cracked and I’m too lazy to check the internet. Wait… I’m ON the internet. Hold on, blast you… Aha! It’s August 6, 1911, so I’m a day early. Good! Happy Birthday, Lucy!
