Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom Saves My Sanity This Week…

Okay, between the kitchen ceiling and walls here STILL not being repaired (oh, it’s a comedy of errors on the whys and hows of that nonsense – worth a post in of itself, but I’ll do that tomorrow or Thursday) and me pulling what’s left of my hair out at other things, I’m glad to have one nice diversion today: Little Orbit’s Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom. WayForward Technologies has cooked up a very inspired top-down adventure with gameplay and aesthetics that are going to be VERY familiar to fans of a certain marquee mascot character. Okay, the game is a shameless homage to the sprite-based Legend of Zelda games, but I’d say that Link HAS to be jealous. Why? Well, he’s only in a big deal fighting game and a nice non-canon beat-’em-up this year on two platforms while Finn is in a game that’s actually a solid Zelda adventure with Adventure Time humor packed into it.

Okay, let me get back to it. Tomorrow, another wall gets partially knocked in and I hope to heck there’s not anything leaky behind it, grrrr… Oh yeah, a bunch of AAA titles arrived today, but I’m not playing any of them (yet).

Random Art: Tuesday Tries Its Best to Trample. Trees to the Rescue!

November so far

So, today was a royal pain in the few places that ouch the most. Let’s see now: there’s a wall in one bedroom here that needed two minor patch jobs thanks to the pipe behind it getting slightly leaky. That’s all well and good and the inspector who popped up last Friday gave out that appointment like he was handing out Halloween candy. Then, on a whim I had him check out the wall in the kitchen with the two cracks in it and *whamm-oooo*, things got ugly. Suddenly, he’s up on a stepladder here and mumbling into his cellphone. I hear “asbestos” mentioned and my brain spins around like a kid on a soda shoppe stool who just got a free scoop of ice cream in his sundae. Only it’s not a sundae I’m getting, but a lousy case of déjà vu all over again (thanks, Yogi!) with a big fat, juicy Red #40 colored cherry on top.

Yuck…

Ah, Bumpy Tuesday! Someone Call The Cops!

(Thanks, Chaplin 1914!)

Well, okay… it’s not THAT serious so I’ll take the Keystone Cops whenever they can get here, but I am having some connection issues today. Hmm. going through my inbox here I see mostly mail about bundles and more bundles, more news about Microsoft buying Mojang and Minecraft (yeah, it was bound to happen that SOMEONE would snap this up once Notch got bored, but Microsoft? Hmmmm…) and a few media events coming up. Oooh, I get to see some new peripherals later this week! Nice.

Okay, let me mess around here with some computer stuff (or a hammer) and see if I can put up something actually worth reading later this evening or tonight. Hopefully THIS post actually posts, as that seems to be the MAIN problem I’m having today. Boo. In English: “We are experiencing operating difficulties. Please stand by…”

Landline, HOOOOOOO!

Yaaaaaah. People ask me why I still keep a landline at home and today is one answer why. No service at a few spots I went to, VERY limited and slower than dial-up* wi-fi at other spots and me going NUTS trying to do a simple update post. Blech! Anyway, it’s near 7PM and I finally found a decent connection, so here’s A post. Not THE post I wanted to do, but that’s slow-biz, folks! Okay, back in a bit. I only have an hour before this place shuts down, but I won’t be staying for that full hour, as I have something cooking in the oven and I’d rather not burn the house down, a ha ha ha…

The Monster of the ID Is Keeping Me From My Research!

(Thanks, Crosscheckmate!)

NO, not THAT Monster, you. I’ve been a bit occupied today in getting some expired ID’s renewed, so it’s been a bit of a hassle today in terms of a few things. Anyway, the balls are rolling on some stuff, so that’s good. I’m going to go take a nap after this hot day of running about and waiting and maybe pop up later to post something that’s actually worth reading. I see my inbox is PACKED TO THE GILLS (*blub!*) with stuff. Eh, what else is new? Other than people making a damn mist for potato salad from strangers who should know better (and send that money to me because I’d put it to much better use. Art doesn’t spoil, folks… unless it’s made from stuff that spoils, of course)…

Day Whatever: Laptop “Crisis” Continues, Work Slowdown Forces Laze-Offs…

Okay, it’s not THAT bad, but I do miss my portability which adds access to wi-fi. Anyway, the AMUSING thing is my anti-virus program has cloud storage that I used a bit of when I installed it, but as I’m on a crap connection here, I can’t access it to get to the stuff I was working on! Isn’t technology WONDERFUL? Nope. Anyway, the “good” news part one: my replacement power supply should be here by Thursday. The bad/good news: Verizon is forcing everyone in the area still on crap connections into an upgrade over the next few months, but is being kind of shifty when it comes to discussing what it will cost and whether it’s going to be one of those “pay by bandwidth” deals that’s NOT a deal for folks like me who shift words and games around in large enough quantities that we’re hit with fees and caps that make no sense. I hate when companies claim they’re doing stuff in the best interest of the consumers because it’s never, ever true when you get right down to it, grrrr.

(thanks, BlankTV!)

Eh, we’ll see where this new madness goes. I still want to keep the land line as long as possible because mobile phones blow in cases of emergencies around here while I can dial out and reach someone on the home phone. That and I can see nothing but grief from a connection that’s SUPPOSED to be more stable not being so stable, but hey – progress, right?

It’s Tuesday, Right? Time To Take A Little DETOUR…

(thanks, TheVideoCellar!)

Yeah, you had a bad day at work, right? You look like you could use a break from that grumbling and mumbling about chasing your boss around the office with a blunt object as well as a little lesson in karma. Here’s probably the best cure for your troubles in one of the most amazing film noir gems you’ll ever hit your eyeballs with. I think I did a Random Film of the Week on Detour previously, but I’m too tired to check.

EDIT! Nope, I did NOT do one – this will be rectified soon!)

Anyway, pull up a seat, Pete and feast your eyeballs on this dusty jewel that still packs quite a punch. Watch out for Ann Savage as Vera here – she’ll cut you if you don’t watch your back… or worse… maybe.
