An Animated Discussion (Part 2)

Now, where were we…

Casper

Cutting to the chase, maybe? Right, then. Here’s what was in that care package that was retrieved by a friend for his two kids as they were struggling with a no internet challenge. I’d say that package worked for its purposes pretty well, but we’ll see what the kids thought:

flintstonesThe Flintstones The Complete First Season: This one went over big because neither kid has seen the older version of the show in any sort of order before, but they definitely got it’s influence on The Simpsons and Dear Old Dad said he went out and got a Honeymooners collection DVD from a local pawn shop at some point so they could take a deeper dive down the road.

I’ve always thought the first three seasons were the best, as the animators were still working on a few things and the some of later seasons’ episodes felt a little stale. That said, every season has quite a few stellar episodes, and on the while, it’s a classic series worth seeing in full.

BUY IT! Funko Gets New & Nostalgic With Even More TV & Movie Favorites

funko logoI’ve always liked Funko’s cute collectible figures, but my over-dedication to the games library here means I’ve no room to stock those cool-looking figures (boo!). Still, that won’t stop me from letting you know what’s new and upcoming from the company…

Rocketeer
May brings in The Rocketeer, the late Dave Stevens’ great comic character that also ended up in a decent and fun to watch film directed by Joe Johnston and produced by Disney back in 1991. Arriving as part of Funko’s ReAction lineup, The Rocketeer comes equipped with a removable helmet and jetpack, which doesn’t actually work by the way (so you won’t have Nazi spies trying to break into your place and steal it)…

Humor: Another Trip To Bedrock’s Music Scene…

Cow belly, pot of beans
Tie a rope around your jeans
Tell your ma not to wait
You ain’t getting home till late…

Hmmm… based on those first four lines from the Bedrock Twitch, you’ll either be apologizing to some blind date for insulting her size or you’re on the way to a nice shotgun wedding for what happened afterwards. Or both, knowing some of you out there who can’t keep a secret or stay out of trouble at the same time. Thankfully, for the rest of you who know what’s what with this kooky tune, it’s all about bouncing around the room and keeping the tune going with a funny wig on your head and two-string guitar (made of stone, at that!) so it’s all good. Yeah, you KNOW you’re up and doing that one-foot hop, too. I won’t tell… but your dog may bite you for waking it up if you bounce by too loudly… or because you have the cat on your head thanks to not having a wig handy. “Twitch, twitch!”

Hi-Fye vs. Peggy Lee: Er, That About Covers It…

Well, I guess it’s a tie at the end of the day, as both versions are a hoot for their own reasons. Although, to be fair… I’d want to see Peggy try to do those crazy dance moves Fred Flintstone pulls off in that dress she’s wearing. Hell, I’d LOVE to see any human try that walking on the toes bit followed by levitating with more fancy footwork. You just know that somewhere at SOME point, some kid got a bit too loaded up on chocolate milk and tried to bust those moves before falling and busting something else instead. I bet a few over-aged kids had too many adult beverages or other college age stimulants and tried the same antics as well. I’d bet even more that it was the same kid who didn’t quite figure out cartoons work quite differently when you try to emulate exactly what you’re watching (no matter how many hits you’ve had)…

And no, that wasn’t an autobiographical post. My mind wanders through time (and spaaaaaaace!) when I don’t get enough sleep. That’s all…

If You’re Having A Lousy Week, Let Ann-Margrock Get You On Your Feet…

Heh. I sat in a Starbucks most of today working and for about an hour during the afternoon I had to listen to two guys sitting nearby talk about old cartoons while the girlfriend of one was completely baffled about why they were so into The Flintstones. By the time they got around to the assorted celebrities and music numbers on the show and one guy hit up YouTube for a few videos (including the one above), I had a few tunes looping in my head until I left for the night. Anyway, from the 1963 episode “Ann Margrock Presents” here you go – if you’re not shaking it around the room, you’re probably not breathing. Enjoy! Hmmm, now I want one of those bird basses or an elephant trombone (I think there’s room in the front closet for one of those)…
