Random Art: So Much For Sunday Success…

That Old Thing
Well, today was a total bust on the productivity front. Two Starbucks with two crappy signals meant me getting some exercise walking from one to the other and not posting anything all day. One had a connection that kept dropping out and the other had no connection at all. This particular location has an issue with their wi-fi being there sometimes and slow when more than ten or so devices are being used. Sometimes, waiting for the place to clear out helps. Today, it didn’t. Anyway, it wasn’t a total waste, ladies and gents. Have a tree on the house, a-ha and ha-ha.

Well, let me see if I can whip out another quickie post before pumpkin hour. I’m going to have a busy week coming up anyway playing catch up with a ton of posts, downloading some games to review and generally being occupied every day with some writing. I hate being so far behind, but every so often, this sort of annoyance can kick off a creativity spurt. Fie on you, still busted kitchen and other stupid troubles! POW! BAM! I’m a mushroom-cloud-layin’ motherf***er, motherf***er! I’m Superfly T.N.T., I’m the Guns of the Navarone! Yeah, stay out of my way Monday – you’ll just be bad for yourself at this point, grrrr!

Busy Bee-ing Busy. Results to Follow Shortly…

Up for air and still buried? How about that? Anyway, just a quickie note to note that I;m working on some content for this and another site today and into the coming week, so keep an eyeball peeled for updates. I suppose I could tell you what’s coming, but I like to toss a surprise or three at you and see if you can juggle a bit. Anyway, let me get back to knocking out what I need to knock out, and I don’t mean myself. It’s a wee bit warm in here and it’s a wee bit cold outside, which is normally a good thing. Except I’ve not been out all day thanks to my needing to catch up on stuff. Speaking of catching up, still no new kitchen ceiling and wall, which has gotten old already. I think they’re waiting until after the 19th when the wall in the home office gets taken care of to kick off phase two. I suppose I’ll need to take some before and after photos as a document of some sort, but I’m expecting these clowns to just make the place look exactly as it looked before they busted it up.

(Thanks, dodgybizkit!)

Well, with a fresh coat of paint on the new walls they’re putting in, of course.

Not a Slow Day, But a Busy One (For Tomorrow)…

Wait, did I give part of this title to a post already? Eh, no matter, although it does feel like Déjà Vu… Anyway, between my loading up a bunch of files for the coming week’s onslaught of work and some wi-fi sluggishness that lasted most of the afternoon, I didn’t get much done today. Still, it’s good to have a path to er, victory(?) or whatever. I did watch the 1940 version of The Thief of Bagdad for an upcoming blogathon, so you’ll be seeing that go up soon enough. Monday will be a busy one and I’ll be the busy bee buzzing through it. Of course, there’s a fly in the ointment in the form of some maintenance guy stopping by to take care of some very minor water damage in a wall here. But that job shouldn’t last past noon unless he’s REALLY careless and clueless. Then again, this IS Parkchester, the place where they paint fences without trimming bushes back, so… we shall see…

Sunday Gives Me Both Barrels, But I’ll Be Quite Alright…

(Thanks, John Thomas!)

And how was/is YOUR Sunday? Mine is pretty lousy at the moment, but pretty much everything’s fixable with some time and a bit of money. My home PC decided to flip out and not want to boot up properly, my backup solution isn;t working (thank goodness for the laptop), the connection today is super-slow, I accidentally broke the paper holder on one of the printers here (nothing a little glue can’t fix, but it was a total “DUH!” moment when it happened), my Logitech G15 finally died, I can’t find the driver CD for my gaming mouse, some of the plants I was growing decided to keel over thanks to the temperature changes this past week and I still need to get to that pile of laundry I was supposed to do last week, but kept putting off because of so many games coming in and me needing to get to them. Yaaaaah. There are a few other things going on as well, but those are for me to know and you to not find out.

(Thanks, DreamWorksTV!)

Eh, small world problems, but all happening around the same time makes for a REALLY annoying day. Eh, here’s a little laugh for you while I get back to trying to actually be something resembling “productive” today. Back in a bit…

Random Film of the Week(end): When Worlds Collide

When Worlds Collide MPYou know we’re screwed as a species when the wealthy ones start talking about packing up and moving to Mars with increasing fervor while failing to mention that, oh yeah – the poor people aren’t getting up there at all with their crime and diseases and lack of money and such. While it’s a wonderful idea to pick up and leave an old house and hoof it over to a new one if you can afford it, the truth of the matter is it’s not quite that simple. EVERYTHING on any planet that’s not Earth-like will need to be paid for and shipped from air to water to food to people to get things up and running so all of those things required for living can be manufactured on that new old planet. Relying on shipments from Earth once one is on Mars is pretty much the worst idea ever (well, next to thinking a trip to Mars isn’t going to cost a lot more money, time and lives than anyone can imagine should a single thing go wrong in transit), but I don’t expect to change the minds of those committed to this expensive errand.

Instead, I’d highly recommend those people determined to go (and those of us headed for the history books) to watch Rudolph Maté’s When Worlds Collide, the classic 1951 sci-fi drama produced by George Pal and based on the book by Philip Wylie and Edwin Balmer that’s somewhat dated on many fronts, but still packs quite a wallop in terms of its visual effects that probably sent plenty of paranoid theater-goers home to cower under the covers for a while despite the somewhat hopeful ending (well, for SOME lucky space travelers)… Continue reading

Not a Slow Sunday, But a Nice Day For a Little Break…

Sorry for the lack of stuff to read today. I needed to take the day off to get into the great outdoors and see how the other half lives. So that was done (Street fair! Don’t ask for pictures as I just went to see and eat a little and relax and not worry about being all social networky and such). I also ended up going to the movies after stumbling across a theater, so that was a good ending to the day. This week’s a doozy for meetings (Pepcom tomorrow evening and a few other meetings later in the week), so some days I’ll have a lot of posts, some days maybe one or two at best. I still need to grab a copy of Hyrule Warriors, as I meat to pick it up on launch day but forgot my gift card (oops!) and didn’t have enough cash on me to buy it outright. Oh well. That will be one of the things I get done sometime within the next seven days. Okay, back to real life. See you all tomorrow.

Sluggish Sunday Seems Sensible. So Slowness Simply Slides…

(thanks, “Gerry Anderson”!)

Thunderbirds aren’t GO! Today’s a gloomy mess outside and I’m in no mood for foul weather. Anyway, my brian has some clouds stuck in it temporarily so there will be a distinct lack of interesting things to read outside of this post. Well, until tomorrow. I’ve been a bit busy dinking around with Destiny and I’m finally getting back to writing the review I’d started just after the launch because this is a game that shouldn’t have been reviewed at all until about three weeks to a month after its release.

I also finally got my paws on one of Sony’s Wonderbook titles and… it works wonderfully. However, they totally screwed up what could and should have been an interactive book series that brought titles to life for MORE than just the kid market (or more precisely, the “Parents who buy this stuff for kids who don’t buy it because they don’t work for a living” market). To date, there are a mere three US releases and one title that only got a European and Australian release. I also have a few movies to write about, some books to review on the way and some other stuff some PR people have been promising to hit me over the head with is incoming, so it’s not as if I have nothing to do, folks. I just need to get my motivation revved back up to do it (and promptly, at that)…

Back in a bit…

Good, Housekeeping!

(thanks, dirtyworkUK!)

Well, maybe this is actually more of a generic post to say Sunday will be slow for them. Posts, that is. I’m doing some away team stuff today (playing Destiny at a friend’s place for a review using his speedy connection and PSN account) and generally keeping a low profile because it’s a busy week ahead and I want to expend as little energy as possible today. “But what about Destiny?” you ask? “Isn’t it EXCITING?!” You ask? Um… welll… it’s FUN, don’t get me wrong, folks. Oh, you’ll see in my review later this week. I do like it so far, but to quote a certain fake Harry: “A man’s got to know his limitations…” Anyway, back in a bit. Maybe I’ll even get in another post today if I get back early enough to ramble about something.

How You Feeling? Hot, Hot, Hot!

Yuck. It sure looks (and FEELS) as if summer is going out with a VERY sweaty and sticky bang here (Hey, this is a family show, go get that mind out of the gutter!). It’s not very warm out, but MAN, is it HUMID. As in step out of the relatively cool lobby into oily, slick and soupy air humid. Bleh. A simple and normal ten minute trip out turned into about twice that length because it felt as if I was swimming in that too warm air. And I can’t swim all that well. Anyway, if I can recover somewhat and go in for my second shower of the day, I may post one or two more items later. I do need to do a bit of outdoor stuff today, so any posts planned for today would go up in the evening. After a THIRD shower, of course. Then again, given it may rain at some point this afternoon, I may get that shower before I get back home…

Have a slow and quiet (and not as yucky out as it is here) holiday, people!

Sunday, Bloody (Dull, But Not Quite) Sunday…

Well, it’s one of those Sundays where any major motivation went saaaaaailing out the window thanks to a lack of sleep. I blame Tales of Xillia 2 because I’m forging through it to get a review up, the crazy P.T. demo on the PS4 (thank you, Mr. Kojima!) as well as the soon to be released horror movie MOEBIUS for scaring my pants off (little in joke there – you’ll get it when you see this icky fright flick) and some rather stupid download issues with a couple of games I also need to review (it’s as if the entire borough is in some sort of slow time bubble in terms of finding a speedy connection anywhere!). Well, this week is going to be busy even if all that stuff above was done, but now I have to step on the gas a little more and hope today’s progress makes for a fun to read pile of articles.

Back in a bit. I’ve a bit of creative world-ending to take care of, now that I’ve got some coffee in me. Back in a bit (or tomorrow, whichever arrives first)…
