Shhh. Quiet… we’re thinking today. Back tomorrow with some neat stuff I’ll see in the morning (provided it’s not under embargo).
Hey! It’s National Coffee Day or whatever it’s called. If you imbibe that devilish brew, go find a place that’s giving away a cup and get yours. I settled for being lazy and not making mine this morning just so I could hoof it down to Dunkin’and see what was what. Amusingly enough, despite the sign on the door and eager but surprisingly small crowd in the spot I stepped into, a few people on the line knew nothing about that freebie and were paying for their coffee, some even after the busy staff sort of pointed out that they could have had a freebie. Ah well.
Anyway, there was one guy in that shop who was on his tablet noting that he was going to walk to a few different Dunkin’s in the area (there are three or four within about a twenty or so minute walk) and get a free cuppa Joe at each stop. Well, that’s nice that he’s not going to be sleeping tonight, I guess. Still, it’s a somewhat good idea if you have nothing else to do and want a big ass buzz that will keep you wide-eyed and jittering into the wee hours. Um, here’s a tree to ogle that incomplete. No reason for it being here other than I’m too busy to dig up a stock image of a cup of coffee.
Yeah, I could have snapped a pic of my cup and posted it instead. But maybe I’ll do that later. I think I need a second cup of coffee now…
Hmmm. Nothing seems wrong here at the library today. But somehow, the internet connection is more than a little sluggish and keeps dropping out every few minutes. They’ve been having other issues (public printers haven’t worked for about a week, there’s a database issue that’s making it tricky to track some stuff), but the connection is usually fast and a lot more reliable. Anyway, to quote the old TV announcement: “We are experiencing operating difficulties… please stand by.”
Annoyed but feeling creative anyway, all you get today is a tree I knocked out after a post I was working on blanked itself after my laptop reset for some reason about half an hour ago. “This is only a test. If this were an actual emergency…” Well, I’d be at home under a few blankets at that point. Back in a bit. Or tomorrow, whichever comes first.
Okay, it may seem as if I’m not doing much this Labor Day weekend, but I’m kicking along on a few things that needed getting done that weren’t going to get themselves done. A few games and films in The Backlog are getting whittled down, I’ve been experimenting with a few cooking ideas I may spill a few beans on at some point and yeah, I’ve been doing a little more “art” as seen above.
Alrighty, then. Back to a slow Sunday night. Have a relatively normal holiday, those of you who get to celebrate it.
In the short list of crazy injuries I’ve had this year, throwing my left shoulder out is probably the most annoying for a few reasons. Thankfully, it’s the left side and not the right, as I tend to type faster with my right hand. It’s also a good thing that I can “draw” with a mouse while recuperating in any position. This sketch was actually an old incomplete one that I dug up and tinkered with while waiting for some medication to kick in. At some point I need to get knocked down by a big dog with well-manicured paws who would proceed to jump up and down on that one spot that hurts I can’t reach. So I’ll stop typing for now, go lie outside on the sidewalk for a few hours and see what happens.
Back in a bit.
Boo. So I’m a bit bummed that Project CARS died on the vine for the Wii U after a few years in the works and that version only getting up to about 23fps despite the best efforts of the dev team. But it was a business decision at the end of the day despite some raging (and flat out STUPID) conspiracy theories about the publisher ruining the game. I’ll comment on this further in a more appropriate post, but here’s a tree to peek at while you wait. Or perhaps I’ll get a few other things done and get to the game’s cancellation over the weekend. No use beating a dead tire now, although it would be nice to hear the whole story one of these days from the horse’s mouths. Ah well… back to reality and (no true simulation-type racers on a Nintendo console in quite some time)…
Nothing to see here. Move along now. Git. Oh, and it’s not #LoveWins people. It SHOULD have been #LoveALWAYSWins because yeah, hate and the misguided opinions of the always wrong ones throughout history finally need to be shown for the insanity they are in this new century. Objections to the happiness of others based on blind ignorance handed down without consideration also need to be beaten to death by now. With love, of course. Just so we can move onto truly important stuff like making sure we all have a planet to live on. And NO, not freaking Mars. That sci-fi fantasy isn’t going to happen without bankrupting the rest of the globe just so a few people can go up there and die to prove an easy to see from earth point. We’re not ready because we still argue over stuff like human rights for ALL. Boo. Fix that and then we can play with expensive spaceships and grand ideas not just for one class of people to see the results of in the future.
Back tomorrow. I’m taking the day off if you haven’t guessed already.
Gyaaah. So, it looks as if the roof repair project is going to take a few more days, there’s now some more water damage from that pipe behind a wall here, there still needs to be a floow-up inspection and I’m still figuring out where to store a bunch of stuff for the upcoming wall takedown/repair job. On the stupider front, I’m finding out that one reason repairs seem to be so damned slow here is this apartment has been in the family since 1976 or ’77 and it seems that the management is deliberately having the maintenance folks do crappy work as a means to make me crazy enough to leave. Why? Well, I’m certainly not paying market rate rent for this nice place, that’s why. Of course, the entire system for repairs here is SO damned ancient that I’m not going to be at all surprised when some newer tenants in buildings here take it on the lam after they deal with those inept dolts in the office and all that (waste of) paperwork that comes for even the smallest repair job.
Eh, I drew a tree yesterday after getting knocked out of bed early by some knocking on the roof. Enjoy it vicarously for me, as I was thinking of dropping a real tree on some people a few blocks up the street who need to get out of that office and see the awful work that’s been done up here. Boo on people who don’t see how the other half live because they just don’t give a crap.
Had some medical checkup stuff to get done to-day, so posting will be limited until I return. Did this while waiting around for an EKG machine to free up. Amusingly enough, there’s usually a decent wi-fi signal here at the clinic, but it’s been dropping in and out to the point where staff asked people not to use devices or limit time to a few minutes so they could keep their work rolling smoothly. Good thing I can sketch offline and post within a handful of minutes once I get online, I guess. Okay, back later. This day is going on longer than expected and I’m missing some important stuff because of it, grrrr.
It’s been a little bit since I posted some art, so here you go. This piece was done while waiting for a download to complete and as I was poring over a long list of articles I need to write or finish writing. For some reason, this past month has been a bit rough in terms of finding some focus but that’s most likely due to the weather, my poor throat being out of whack and some other stuff keeping my thoughts split into a bunch of places. In general, my best story ideas pop into my head at random intervals, usually within a few seconds of looking at a product or checking out a link someone’s sent me. This month or so it’s been some great beginnings to articles popping like mad, but no endings in that corn pile. Things are shifting back to normal as of the last few days, so I just need to dip into my notes and play catch up for about a week or two.
Eh, I’ll get my full mojo back soon enough. My motivation has been on vacation, but things on the horizon are looking up, so that trip seems to be coming to a close. Back in a bit…
