Natsume Announces Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals To Hit Retail Next Month

Ah, Lufia… I can remember both excellent SNES games like the back of my hand (did you know the first game was supposed to come out on the Sega Genesis as well?). Anyway, Natsume has announced that Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals for the Nintendo DS will be in stores on October 12, 2010. I absolutely LOVE the artwork, particularly the more realistic look of Maxim, Lufia and the rest of the gang in this installment. Hmmm… I'm getting those warmly nostalgic waves of JRPG-induced insomnia already! That's a good thing, by the way.

More info and screens are a click away…

Power Gig: Rise of the Six String Song List Revealed

Power Gig: Rise of the SixString Guitar Bundle
The upcoming multi-platform release, Power Gig: Rise of the Six String has me a lot more interested than other music games this year because it has an actual guitar peripheral and I just so happen to be a frustrated guitar god and previous owner of four electrics before I gave up my garage band dreams (I didn't even have a garage, ba dum bum! Thank you, I'll be here all week, two shows on Saturday). Will I get another chance to be a Twang Bar King (hell, at my age, that's the sound my back makes every morning when I get out of bed), or will I have to settle for air guitar lessons from a drunken Elvis impersonator at the bar across the street? We'll see this October, that's for sure.

Anyway, Seven45 Studios has dropped the set list in my inbox, so here's what to expect in-game once you excitedly crack open that shrink wrap:

Gallery: The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest

Here you go – Box art and screens for each of the console and handheld versions of WBIE's upcoming action game. When the game was initially announced last year, there was to be a PlayStation 2 version as well. However, I'm guessing that one has been canned (well, at least in the US) as there were no images sent along with what's here. Ah well…

Review: 3D Dot Game Heroes

Platform: PlayStation 3

Developer: Silicon Studio/From Software

Publisher: Atlus

# of Players: 1

ESRB Rating: T (Teen)

Official Site
Score: A

Without a doubt one of the best “retro” games to date that’s not a homebrew creation, 3D Dot Game Heroes perfectly blends old-school gameplay elements and today’s console technology with the end result being an instant classic no PS3 owner should miss. It’s easy to look at screen shots or poke around on a message board and read about simplistic comparisons to The Legend of Zelda or other favorite 8-bit adventure RPGs, but the game is a lot more rewarding than a mere clone if you know your gaming history. Obvious plot and gameplay elements aside, 3DDGH is a pretty darn funny trip through the 8-bit era with a decidedly modern spin.

Score: A-

Deadly Premonition
just might be a tipping point for certain gamers who don’t quite trust mainstream review sites for any number of reasons. Sure, if you apply the now boring “by today’s standards…” mantra to every aspect of the game, it deserves a low score for failing to have stunning graphics, online multiplayer modes, flawless controls and so forth and so on. On the other hand, if you approach DP as a game experience that’s going to be (outside of yearly sequels and games trying to copy other games) wholly unique… well, hell – welcome to paradise. Granted, it’s a twisted paradise of survival horror, intentional comedy, open world exploration, police car driving and a main character that’s crazy as a herd of cows on a crack binge.

Review: Alice In Wonderland (Wii)

Platform: Nintendo Wii

Developer: Etranges Libellules

Publisher: Disney Interactive Studios

# of Players: 1 – 2

Rating: E10+

Official Site

Score: B-

As with the Nintendo DS/DSi version of Alice In Wonderland, developer Etranges Libellules has done a great job, transforming what could have been a boring platform-hopping romp into a visually stunning, simple to play (yet challenging at times) experience. The Wii version uses the film’s look and much of its major voice talent with excellent results and while it’s not the longest game on the planet, a few tricky puzzles and combat should keep you entertained There’s co-op play here for those that crave companionship or want to share the fun, but it’s not quite perfect and actually can make the game a bit harder in some areas. Sherlock Holmes vs Jack The Ripper To Stalk 360 in April

Looks as if the adventure game on home consoles isn’t quite dead after all. Thanks to Dreamcatcher and The Adventure Company, Xbox 360 owners will get their hands on Frogware’s Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper on April 20, 2010 for a mere $29.99.

The game is a port of the 2009 PC version (which garnered pretty decent reviews overall) and features first and switchable first and third-person perspectives, detailed environments based on actual locations around London and more investigating than you can shake a walking stick at. Here’s a quick peek at a few screens as well as a little bit of info on what to expect in the final version:

Gallery Update: 3D Dot Game Heroes

Lock up your daughters (well, unless they’re kidnapped princesses that need rescuing)! Atlus USA is letting loose a few more screens from its upcoming PS3 exclusive 3D Dot Game Heroes. Before you take a peek down there, you need to ask yourself a few important questions.

Do you like HUGE swords? Er, in a non-threatening, but increasingly screen-filling manner, that is? Well, take a gander at these big’uns, read the descriptions and try not to lose an eye in the process…

Yeah, this game is going to be a total blast (er, try not to take that the wrong way, folks).

Ancient Sword: The sword of the legendary hero, left in the Sacred Woods should evil arise again.
Claymore: A massive blade that cuts down your foes!

Excalibur: A sword of legend that will require you to gain favor with King Block to obtain it.

Holy Sword: A sword forged in sacred water.

Katana: A sharp, thin blade from the east!

Rare Fish: …? Really?
