“Bugs Bunny Was Here!” 1949’s Rebel Rabbit was and is one of the more pointed WB cartoons and an all-time personal favorite. As a friend of mine who was born and raised there said to me a few days back “Florida is a mighty odd place, man.” And that’s all I’ll say about that.

Hello, Shout Factory!
Ow. My. Ears. Dude.
Sorry. This IS Shout Factory, you know! How Can I help you today?!
Hang on, dude… let me get some cotton balls and half an earmuff… (sounds of drawer opening, followed by rattling noises)… OK, I think I’m better now.
That’s good to hear! So…How can I help you today?

Humor: Beaky Buzzard Has A Baaaaaad Saturday Night…
Oh, Beaky, Beaky, Beaky… you still can’t work those straps, huh? The funnier thing about this clip is what’s actually missed by some – those other sheep are going to probably be dinner, so that leggy lamb just got lucky she just lost her coat (and wool in THIS heat? Come on, now!). Hmmm. I think it would have been even more hilarious if the animators has her whacking poor Beaky over the skull with a lamb bone. Well, OK, that’s a bit too much… but it is pretty funny when you think about it…
As Long As YOUR Mother’s Day Wasn’t Like This, It Was An OK One…
Hey, a little Bugs Bunny goes a long, loooooong way, folks. Of course, the next time you’re at your mother’s place or she’s with you and someone orders coffee or tea, I’m hoping this clip pops into your head at some point. She’ll understand perfectly if she remembers this old gem, but if not… well, you sure have some fast explaining to do, right?
Humor: Another Trip To Bedrock’s Music Scene…
Cow belly, pot of beans
Tie a rope around your jeans
Tell your ma not to wait
You ain’t getting home till late…
Hmmm… based on those first four lines from the Bedrock Twitch, you’ll either be apologizing to some blind date for insulting her size or you’re on the way to a nice shotgun wedding for what happened afterwards. Or both, knowing some of you out there who can’t keep a secret or stay out of trouble at the same time. Thankfully, for the rest of you who know what’s what with this kooky tune, it’s all about bouncing around the room and keeping the tune going with a funny wig on your head and two-string guitar (made of stone, at that!) so it’s all good. Yeah, you KNOW you’re up and doing that one-foot hop, too. I won’t tell… but your dog may bite you for waking it up if you bounce by too loudly… or because you have the cat on your head thanks to not having a wig handy. “Twitch, twitch!”
Stop The Wayback Machine! Mr. Peabody & Sherman (and Rocky & Bullwinkle) Are Coming Back? Eeek.
File this entry in the “Wait, what?” Department. Hmmm… on ONE front, this is truly awesome news, as I’m as old as the hills and LOVE Jay Ward’s humor and these characters to death. That said, I’m all too curious as to just WHO the Hecuba this new comic series (and upcoming Dreamworks animated movie) are targeted at.
I’d bet only those very-oldsters like me and whatever college-agers who happen to get a knowing chuckle from the old cartoons will even give a damn, while the Generation “Why” kids that get dragged to this will be sitting there texting for an hour and a half or so. Or worse, sitting there with their arms folded with a cranky “I’m going to kill you in your sleep!” look on their ungrateful faces because some parental unit tried to get them to like something THEY loved as an impressionable kid or young adult.
Of course, I’m betting that instead of historical figures from the past we old folks learned about in school, IDW might tap into more modern and a lot less “historical” figures from pop culture or other time periods that, frankly speaking, won’t be as funny to mine for the old show’s offbeat (and intentionally incorrect) pokes. Ugh… now I have memories of that eyeball and brain searing take on The Three Stooges from a few years back…
Hi-Fye vs. Peggy Lee: Er, That About Covers It…
Well, I guess it’s a tie at the end of the day, as both versions are a hoot for their own reasons. Although, to be fair… I’d want to see Peggy try to do those crazy dance moves Fred Flintstone pulls off in that dress she’s wearing. Hell, I’d LOVE to see any human try that walking on the toes bit followed by levitating with more fancy footwork. You just know that somewhere at SOME point, some kid got a bit too loaded up on chocolate milk and tried to bust those moves before falling and busting something else instead. I bet a few over-aged kids had too many adult beverages or other college age stimulants and tried the same antics as well. I’d bet even more that it was the same kid who didn’t quite figure out cartoons work quite differently when you try to emulate exactly what you’re watching (no matter how many hits you’ve had)…
And no, that wasn’t an autobiographical post. My mind wanders through time (and spaaaaaaace!) when I don’t get enough sleep. That’s all…
Hmmm… Who Are Newspaper Comics Aimed At Again?
OK, I have a really good sense of humor and I’m a terrible non-prude, but I just HAVE to ask who decided to run these two dopey cartoons on the same day last week (and right above each other). Granted, I don’t read many newspapers much these days thanks to the lack of actual NEWS and focus on overly opinionated “journalists” (read: supremely loony egomaniacs) with an axe to grind trying to whittle anyone they see fit down to size that they don’t happen to like for whatever damn kooky reasons they’re wrong about if they got their heads out of the clouds and ass (amazing how they can do that, huh?) and actually wrote sans bile and other junk in their eyeballs.
But I digress (as usual)… Anyway, Gary Larson was at least regularly funny and stopped doing his fine work when he ran out of steam. These not-so great pretenders are good for a chuckle at best, but the retread rate has gone off the scale, I say. Of course, neither cartoon is really “offensive” at all…but what KID under ten has EVEN read Moby Dick? I guess everyone stares at boobies at some point, so maybe that one works on that level. I can’t tell, as I’m typing this in public and I was distracted… (*beet*… BUSTED!)…
