The Jury’s (Not) Out: Out of Service, Down For The Count

blacksloth_1024x1024

Rather appropriate for my current situation, I’d say. Go click that pic and buy a shirt. Hell, buy ME a shirt while you’re at it!

Ugh. So, thanks to running back and forth to serve on a jury in a modern but not cleaned too regularly court packed with common folk and their assorted germs, I’m sick as a dog. Well, a sick dog with a raw throat and assorted aches. While I have no issues with serving at all other than the long waiting times, uncomfortable seating and yeah, people coughing, sneezing and sniffling like mad, feeling as if I’ve been trapped in the most boring convention meets Groundhog Day is both annoying and amusing.

Okay, I’m going back to bed now, tonic in hand. My inbox is BURSTING with nice, busy news and such, but I’m in no shape to get to it. Ooof. We’ll see how I feel in a few hours/tomorrow, as I hate being this sick for no reason other than I was pressed into service in a public place that should be a great deal better maintained.

My Backlog Is Killing Me (Part XVIII)

(thanks, CptNem!)

Yeah, yeah. Barney above is so damn right. I’m in the middle of so many games and films that I’m getting them mixed up with dreams about other games and films in my backlog. As I prefer to beat and like to complete stuff before doing a review, it’s trickier to do when some games have more depth than others. This leads to me saving and bouncing between games looking for those that can be tackled over a few days as opposed to a few weeks or more. Of course, I’m in no hurry to be the first up with a review, but it does lead to some kinks in my schedule when I find myself seeing the sun come up with one eyeball while the other is glued to my monitor or TV. That’s a problem that needs fixing, stat. Cloning is still illegal (allegedly) and expensive, so that’s out. Too much coffee is either a bad thing or the best thing ever according to who writes whatever study of the week on that stuff. Helper monkeys and service animals are really awful at videogames and fall asleep during movies, so they’re of no use to me at all. Okay, cute factor points come into play there.

Eh, I’ll get this all sorted out soon. It’s the middle of winter, my hibernation skills keep trying to kick in and that’s no good when the postman is ringing twice outside. That and this post took up some of my game and film time, gyaaaaaah! Okay, back to work. Sisyphus in the Salt Mines sounds like a nice title for today…

Snow Daze: Be Careful What You Wish For, Folks

snow_daze1 (Large)

Whee. 20+ inches of snow and counting, but I’m not counting. According to the smiling weather folks on a few channels who seem to be inordinately cheery about all that white stuff outside blowing around and sticking to anything moving or motionless, it’s allegedly supposed to stop around midnight or so. But that also means a more of those dopes who weren’t out today (from my window I saw a few too many people “driving” sideways or walking in the streets while a car or two slid sideways past them) will be out tomorrow because they know no better than to stay indoors with something (or someone) warm and toasty. Oh well.

snow daze2

I didn’t venture out other than to check the mail only to find out that post office motto really is not true at all, but it seems we may need some more milk after all. So I get to be a dope myself for about ten or twenty minutes, but I do need that cow juice to go into the coffee I’m making that’s required to keep me going though a job I need to plow through that’s due before Sunday is done. Thankfully, the supermarket is less than a block away and the folks who run it live in the area. Then again, I need to step outside for some frozen air anyway, as stir craziness will occur and the dope crashing here who smokes indoors when he shouldn’t (and needs to quit) is going to get a paper hatchet to the head otherwise. Hey, paper cuts can be pretty damn painful, you know…

Wabi-Sabi Cat Episode 1: The (Somewhat Zen) Piano Lesson

Who’d have thought bananas were really good for cats? As you can see above, a tiny slip has a great deal of appeal for our fine feline friend on a recent trip to the big city. Yes, I am full of (rather obvious) puns today. Before we get to the obvious moral here, it’s nice that Wabi-Sabi Cat wasn’t turned into a Keyboard Cat because (s)he’s much better as a reminder that life has its ups and downs and picking oneself up after a spill so we can forge ahead is the best way to live.

Oh, wait- I just gave the moral away before the end of this post. Oops. Anyway, you look as if you could use a little Wabi-Sabi in your life right about now. Go get some, I say…

PSN Flash Sale! Your Fantasy Is A World Of Wallet Pain

PSN Flash Sale Fantasy

If you’re feeling a big pain in your butt, side, or wherever you normally keep your wallet right about now, it’s probably because of this post. Yes, it’s another PSN Flash Sale here to relive you of the burden of some of that disposable income. I’m fighting to NOT buy anything this time but I may cave in because some classics are dirt cheap. That said, if you missed out on Soul Sacrifice, it’s under five bucks. Valkyria Chronicles 2 will cost you a fiver, there are some Turbo Grafx-16 hits for $1.20 each and a load more. Movies and shows are also part of the deal, so go get some and don’t mind the pain. Unless it’s actual pain. The you should go see a real doctor, of course.

The Witcher 3 “Precious Cargo” Gameplay: Geralt’s A Not So Cheap Detective

While I was going through computer hell, it seems that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt went gold and is on the way to production for its upcoming release. Nice. Here’s some more fantastic gameplay footage courtesy of CD Projekt RED, who REALLY wants to sell about five or six bazillion copies of the game (or very close to it) this year. I think they’ll do this with ease, as it certainly looks to be well worth the wait through those assorted delays that set it back a bit.

Geralt may not be Sherlock Holmes or even Horatio Caine, but he sure knows his way around a crime scene and can internal monologue up a storm. Hey, everyone talks to themselves you know. Some of us tend to do it out louder than others. That and hell, you just don’t mess with a man who can swing a sword and/or blast you with magic like Geralt can. “Haw-haw, that crazy-lookin’ guy is in the woods talkin’ to himself!” *STAB! Slice!, ROAST! (sizzle!)* See what I mean? Anyway, May 19, 2015 is the big day for PC, PS4, and Xbox One owners. Expect “flu-like” symptoms and asked for days off in certain spots around the globe, guaranteed.

Dark Horse Fight Club Freebie Dark Horse Kids Freebie

So, it’s May already! That means a few things of note for you fans of a few things pop culture-like. One of them being FREE COMIC BOOK DAY which is tomorrow. If you’ve never participated in this event, it’s a simple and enjoyable thing to do. just find a comic book shop near you, walk in and claim your free comic. That’s it. As you can see above, Dark Horse Comics has some nice freebies this year, but you’ll have about 50 different free comics to choose from at some larger retailers with room to spare.

I actually want to check out that Fight Club sequel, as it’s got Chuck Palahniuk writing every single word. Hopefully the guys at the comic shop near me get themselves open before 1 tomorrow afternoon. Sometimes I’ve run by there only to find the gate down and no one answering the phone. Boo. Well, we’ll see what happens this year. If I post pics tomorrow at some point, that means things went according to plan.

It’s Not A Slow Day, But It’s A Slow Day Upstairs

(thnaks, pzmyers!)

Yeah, motivation flies right out the window when you have a combination of too much to do and not enough time in the day to do it all. Actually, the motivation is there and percolating. It’s just the getting all those little duckies in order and making sure none run away that’s the hard part. Anyway, I’m tinkering away on some previews, reviews and such, getting a few gray hairs fretting about stuff I shouldn’t have to and probably in need of more actual rest. Well, some of that will be taken care of shortly, some of it won’t and carry onward into next week’s workload. No pressure, right? Riiiiiiight.
