Deep Silver Getting Ready For A Prison Break…

Deep Silver is stretching its publishing wings a bit more with an upcoming game based on the recently canceled Fox series, Prison Break. I’ll have to admit to never actually seeing an episode of the show during its run, but I’m definitely interested in what Slovenian developer Zootfly (Panzer Elite Action) will come up with and how it will play, that’s for sure. The developer also produced the rather interesting 2007 video trailer for an unlicensed Ghostbusters console game that amusingly enough, helped the actual game get funded.

Below the jump is the official press release for the company line: Continue reading

Sega NYC Press Event Impressions

Sega rolled into NYC yesterday with a varied lineup of 2009 and 2010 games guaranteed to appeal to pretty much every type of gamer. From family friendly (in original IP and licensed flavors), a bit of fitness, more than a few mighty Mature-rated games that will blow hardcore players away and more RPG surprises than you could shake a stylus at, it was impossible to not be floored by everything shown. I’ll be running lengthier coverage on a few of the games shown in the coming days and weeks, but here’s a quick alphabetical rundown on what was on display: Continue reading

Review: Watchmen: The End Is Nigh – The Complete Experience

Platform: PlayStation 3

Developer: Deadline Games

Publisher: WBIE

# of Players: 1 – 2

ESRB Rating: M (Mature)

Official Site

Score: B

Other than the 2006 limited edition of Midway’s John Woo Presents: Stranglehold (which came packed with a DVD of Woo’s classic action film, The Killer) the Playstation 3’s Blu-Ray format has been very woefully underused in terms of movie/licensed game combo packs. Warner Bros. Interactive adds another game/Blu-Ray combo to the list with Watchmen: The End is Nigh – The Complete Experience, a 2-disc set featuring the Director’s Cut of the 2008 film and both parts of the arcade-style beat ’em up game, making for a great collectible for hardcore movie and game owners. Provided you waited for this full meal combo version of the game and didn’t buy either part separately over PSN or Xbox Live (or don’t mind that you already bought one or both chapters), this is a great value for the money. Gallery: Tekken 6 – 3D Character Art

Namco Bandai sure knows how to perfectly monopolize my quality time, but I’m not complaining one bit. Going through these awesome character renders and screens for Tekken 6 is thrilling enough. Deciding HOW to present them is a bigger challenge, as there are so many characters and screenshots that one post would take up most of a page. Soooo, I’ll break these shots up into two posts. Character art first, screens second. Get ready for an image overload, folks: Continue reading

Feature: Dragon Age: Origins – Orzammar

Each week until the game’s launch date, we’ll be running a Dragon Age: Origins feature here on DAF that spotlights the regions, creatures and characters found in the expansive game world of Ferelden, complete with screenshots and/or artwork. Get your hardhat (or favorite battle helm) on… we’re going underground for this first installment: Continue reading

Gallery: Demon’s Souls

Hands-down, one of my favorite game developers ever is From Software. I’ve been a huge fan of their games for close to 15 years thanks to many unforgettable hours playing their King’s Field series. While the US only saw four of the seven total games released to date, the combination of Western RPG aesthetics, challenging gameplay and interestingly doomed characters (the series has a rather NPC high mortality rate) made for memorable times indeed.

Between the mighty Armored Core franchise, Chromehounds, the two stellar Xbox Otogi games and one-shot brilliance of Kuon, there’s a lot to love about From’s games. That love also extends to From oddities such as Evergrace/Forever Kingdom, The Adventures of Cookie and Cream, Lost Kingdoms, Enchanted Arms, coolimports such asSpriggan: Lunar Verse, Frame Gride and Metal Wolf Chaos. Not to mention the underrated Echo Night games, Eternal Ring, Shadow Tower and Shadow Tower Abyss (one of those great import-only titles that would have been an excellent addition to the US PlayStation 2 library). Of course, not every developer can have a perfect track record. Between you and me, well… we’ll kind of forget about a couple of those later Tenchu games. OK? Continue reading

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Packed With A Rather Innnnnnnnteresting Bonus

What’s looking like a perfect “Game of the Year” candidate gets possibly the best ever collector’s edition released to date. File this under the “Now I’ve seen everything… but I really, REALLY want this!” department:

Ladies and germs, The $150 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition

Wow. Actual working night vision goggles, a “Soap” McTavish bust to hold them, a custom game case and an amazing art book, huh? All that AND free shipping to boot? Well, if you live in the United Kingdom, that is. I see that UK retailer HMV is offering FREE shipping on this awesome package, so let’s hope Gamestop and other US online stores step up to the plate and give gamers here the same deal. Hell, we’re in a recession, y’know!

Update: Amazon.com does indeed have all three editions* of the game up for pre-order with Free shipping, so go for it, Super Saver soldiers!

Despite the lousy economy, I fully expect to watch this one not only sell out but shoot up in value before it even hits retail on November 10th. Rent, food or that Prestige Edition? Yup, I’m going with door # 3, Monty…

(*four, if you count the PC versions, but I didn’t see a Prestige Edition for PC owners yet, soooo…)

E3 2009 Impressions (One): Controlling Interests

It’s a good thing I waited until the big press conferences (and the entire show) were over and done as there were plenty of surprises dropped that are clearly going to change the way the interactive experience in the near future and beyond. Of course the ton of new games on the way that still use traditional control methods will do nicely at assuring “hardcore” gamers that analog pads are not yet going the way of the dinosaur. The one important fact about what was shown at E3 2009: there’s absolutely no need at all for a new console generation for at least the next five or so years. Continue reading
