WRC 3 Update: Vodafone Rally De Portugal Gameplay

Milestone keeps the good times rolling with this latest work in-progress trailer. I’m liking what I see here a lot, but as always, the proof is in the playing. Still, the developer has a decent track record with a nice lineup of racing games for different platforms, so my fingers are crossed that they go the extra mile in doing the WRC license justice. I’ll probably go for the PS3 and Vita versions, as it’ll be fun to compare the two in terms of features and see how much the dev team has managed to fit onto a Vita card. OK, it’s getting late and I’m running out of gas in terms of the auto-related puns. Back with more on this one as new footage magically appears on the internet…

What Is QuakeCon? A Video Primer Of Sorts For People Like Me…

Yeah, that’s right… I’ve never been to a QuakeCon, as it’s always been way out of my budget and I’m not the biggest PC gamer out there (unless it’s some vintage vault classic, super fun indie stuff or RPGMaker epic that’s worth raving about), so that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it. Still, I’ve been to a few East Coast tournaments (that World Cyber Games held here in NYC a bunch of years back and some other fun events), so I know that things get really fun and really crazy in a good way for fans of id Software’s games. Eh, one day I’ll get out west again, so perhaps I’m not a total loser. Hell, I do need a decent vacation. after not having one for ages..

Sega’s Hell Yeah!: This Rabbit Tale Is Getting Curiouser and Curiouser…

Fun and funky visuals aside, I’m still trying to figure this game out and I can’t quite put my finger on why I like it despite it trying to be too, er…. something. Well, it’s not a bad thing that quirky still tickles my fancy and Hell No!, I’m NOT one of those mildly angry internet folk clamoring for Sega to make a Sonic game that looks something like this. As usual, some hands-on time will clarify and crush any doubty rumblings I may have, but overall, I like what I see, pushing the crazy vibe overkill and all. Go, Sega!

Papo & Yo Launch Trailer: Touching A Few Key Points And Making A Point Simultaneously

What makes this trailer really unique is that it’s not the usual hype wheel stuff showing off how flashy and thrilling things will be once you get your hands on a controller. I like the deeper elements explored here and it’s nice to see a game take on this sort of subject matter in quite an interesting manner. I still think SCEA should have put this on a retail disc with some other PSN exclusives, but eh, we’ll see how the game does as a digital download, I suppose.

Incoming RPG! Unchained Blades: Xseed’s All-Star Manga/Anime Artist Dungeon Crawler

As a big fan of all things dungeon crawler, I’ll have to pick this one up soon. I’ve been a bit occupied with a few other games and projects, so yes, I’m a wee but behind on newer reviews. Anyway, I’m happy about Unchained Blades for the mix of famous anime/manga artists for the character design, the old school grind-fest gameplay (a la Wizardry) and the fact that the game is PSP and Vita compatible. Now I’ll have to decide which portable to play it on and when to go snap this up. It’ll most likely be downloaded at a Starbucks nearby, as I can’t access my PSN account on my terrible home connection. This digital-only stuff is making me nuts sometimes… Ah, well.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Developer Diary 2: Gearbox Wants You Playiing From Under The Couch

More fun with fast-moving Xenomorphs in this latest dev diary from Gearbox Software and Sega. You can definitely fell the love these guys have for James Cameron’s second installment in the popular film franchise, which will hopefully translate into a game for the ages that’s as scary and action-packed as everyone wants it to be.

New Super Mario Bros. 2 3DS TV Spot: Nintendo Does It Again (Again)

To me, it’s simply amazing that Nintendo can crank out a new Mario game that’s basically an old Mario game with some funky tweaks plus a few innovations every so often and make a mint every single time. Any other publisher that does this gets called all kinds of names and sand kicked in their faces by the more jaded critics and gamers alike out there. But Nintendo seems to have a pretty solid lock on what their fans want to see, so thanks are in order somewhere, I suppose. Of course, if you hate Mario games, your thumbs went into your eyes before you read this, right?

Classic Gaming Expo 2012 Update: A Video About Game Audio…

If you’re going to CGE 2012, here’s yet ANOTHER something to check out from what’s already going to be a pretty amazing classic gaming convention. Can you name all the games in this video? Better yet, can you do it with your eyes closed just listening to the clip? Ah, memories… too bad I stink at most of those games these days. Well, except Q*Bert. OK, and maybe the Three Stooges. Anyway, Vegas is waiting, baby! Of course, how crazy will you go between being tempted by blowing all your money on gambling and all you can eat buffets galore or blowing all your money on some great vintage to current games and gear?

RAMBO: The Video Game In Development (It’s 1988 All Over Again!)

Granted, the teaser site just has a nice image and that film clip heavy trailer doesn’t reveal much in the way of gameplay (as in no gameplay at all, so I’d gather the project is still early in the dev cycle), but I’m sort of positively ambivalent about the whole thing. Well, positive yet ambivalent if that’s an actual emotional state. If the game is based on the last Rambo film with the hyper-realstic violence and interesting pro-rebel attitude, it’ll be a game worth checking out to see how far it takes its story and violence. Hey, the whole archery thing is big in games these days (not that it went away for us die-hard RPG players out there), so at least I’ll enjoy those parts. And hell yeah, the game had BETTER use some of the late, great Jerry Goldsmith’s music (if legally possible).

On the other hand, if it’s another 80’s throwback with angry Russians, rescue missions in Cambodia or wherever and nostalgically crappy (and completely unnecessary these days) USA!, USA! jingoism permeating the entire project…. I’ll go play something more relevant like Dynamite Duke instead. As usual… we shall see… Don’t blow it, Reef.

Aliens: Colonial Marines Developer Diary 1: Bug Hunting (In More Ways Than One)…

2012 is going to be a REALLY good year for Gearbox Software, what with Borderlands 2 looking to outstrip the original in every way (and how). But let’s not forget the thrilling xenomorph-packed surprise they have coming up in 2013. Granted, I’m someone who liked Alien 3 when I first saw it (and like it even more today thanks to that Assembly Cut version), so I’m not one of those folks who thinks what’s here is replacing that film at all. Of course, if Fox decides to go on ahead and make a movie out of this new game, the crazy paradox time shift that will happen when some poor developer that’s not Gearbox tries to make a movie based off a game based off a film series… well, that just might cause the planet to collapse in on itself in confusion.
