Dragon Age: Origins Voice Cast Revealed

BioWare is set to give genre fans a real treat in terms of killer voice acting in its upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: Origins. The game will feature the vocal talents of Tim Curry (“The Rocky Horror Picture Show”, Broadway’s “Spamalot”), Kate Mulgrew (“Star Trek: Voyager”), Tim Russ (“Star Trek: Voyager,” “Samantha Who?”), Claudia Black (“Stargate SG-1,” “Pitch Black”) and Steve Valentine (“Estate of Panic,” “Crossing Jordan”).

Do I hear a press release (perhaps voiced by Tim Curry, pictured left)? Ah, here we go… put your ear to the monitor and listen to this…

Review: Hurry Up Hedgehog!

Platform: Nintendo DS/DSi

Developer: Ivolgamus

Publisher: O-Games

# of Players: 1 – 6 (Wi-Fi/Hot Seat)

Official Site

Score: B-

Having grown up playing plenty of board games as a kid before moving onto electronic entertainment, my interest in them has never really left as I’ve gotten older. It’s been pretty interesting over the years to see how different game developers translate classic table games into virtual form. Some conversions succeed better than others, but it’s certainly an odd balancing act at times. Go too far from the spirit of the original version and it’s sacrilege to the hardcore fans of the old game. On the other hand, too dry a digital translation, and modern gamers will ignore the product for something shinier with more moving parts. O-Games’ Hurry Up Hedgehog! definitely leans more into the latter category, but there’s a fair amount of depth under the simplistic presentation. If you’re a fan of classic board games with up to five like-minded friends, the game offers up quite a decent (if rather plain-looking) gameplay experience.

Fairytale Fights Headed to PAX (And You Can Win $100 by Playing It!)

Battle it out for big bucks! Playlogic is giving this year’s PAX attendees a chance to play their upcoming PS3/Xbox 360 and PC game, Fairytale Fights AND win a cool $100 gift card in the process. The outrageously hysterical (and hilariously bloody) Unreal 3-engine powered Mature-rated hack ‘n slash/platformer hybrid (*whew!*) will be on display at the show (Booth #28) during the show, which takes place in Seattle, Washington and runs from September 4-6, 2009. As if you didn’t know THAT info already…

Playlogic will hold a drawing at 2pm each day of the show for the gift cards, so be sure to drop by, play (and enjoy) the game they’ve been working hard on (as noted here, it’s a total blast) and cross your fingers (although, NOT while trying to play the game – that would be dumb). You just might walk away with a a nice little prize… Good luck!

Infinite Space Anime Trailers 2 & 3

What time is it? It’s Infinite Space Anime teaser trailer time! These two are pretty cool – enjoy!

Other than Q2 2010, Sega hasn’t quite announced a concrete release date for this tactical space strategy RPG, but as long as they keep these videos rolling out, the wait isn’t so bad, huh?

BRÜTAL LEGEND, I Have Not Forsaken Thee!

Thanks for asking, really… but nope, I absolutely have not been ignoring my man Tim Schaefer, Double Fine Productions or BRÜTAL LEGEND, their Rocktober “surprise” that’s taken the game world by storm this year (cue:“Lightning Strikes Again,”Thor). I’m just sitting here cracking up on a near-daily basis at how all of a sudden everyone has finally discovered just what a group of fantastically talented creative geen-yusses he and his crew are.

I mean, I and many other editor types around the frickin’ world trumpeted the joys of the eternally awesome, amazingly funny platformer Psychonauts* until we turned blue in the head and beyond (cue: “Among the Living,” Anthrax). Nevertheless, did enough of you so-called “hard-core” guys and gals actually BUY the game and justify all the well deserved ink we spilled? Nope (cue: “Backstabber” by Hytz).

*That, and the man’s tenure over at LucasArts cleeeeeeeeearly shows he’s got more than enough proof of Legendary Status (no certificate required). So There.

EA & BioWare Reveal Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station Content Pack

EA and BioWare continue to generate Mass Interest in the upcoming Mass Effect 2 by adding more download content to the original game (which in turn, gives folks like me yet another fine reason to hop back into the boots of Commander Shepard for a few more hours). Mass Effect: Pinnacle Station, the latest add-on for the original game is now available as a downloadable pack for the Xbox 360 for 400 Microsoft points via the Xbox LIVE Marketplace. The PC version of the content pack will set you back $5 and can be purchased through EA’s online store. By the way, the 1.02 patch for Mass Effect is required for the installation of Pinnacle Station and is available over at BioWare’s web site. First things first and all that…

So what’s in the pack? Glad you asked – let’s go to the press release…

Phantom EFX + PAX = Darkest of Days Free For All

Phantom EFX is bringing its upcoming Xbox 360 and PC time-traveling FPS, Darkest of Days to this year’s Penny Arcade Expo (PAX), which is being held from September 4-6, 2009. The single-player story driven shooter, which is looking pretty darn cool, features the debut of 8monkey Labs’ Marmoset game engine, which can display massive battles with hundreds of active AI participants, destructible environments and in the PC version, full NVDIA PhysX support. Go try the PC demo out, if you don’t believe me – it’s pretty smokin’…

The company’s CEO, Aaron Schurman and some of the 8monkey Labs dev team will be there (Booth #878, by the way) with demo stations for both versions and plan to trick their booth out “like a giant bunker, complete with sand bags and a REAL, FULL SIZED CANNON.” Eek – Destroy All Fanboys, indeed. To add to that bit of visual punch, expect to see booth beefcake dressed up as soldiers from the game’s different time periods all available for some photo op action. There will also be plenty of giveaways such as Darkest of Days T-shirts, posters, mouse pads, NVIDIA graphics cards and even a chance to win full retail box copies of the game once it ships.

Megan Fox Will Kindly Beat Your Ass Over Xbox LIVE This Saturday…

No doubt some of you have already had that dream many times before: You’re setting up a match over Xbox LIVE when you see a really familiar name pop up as a gamertag… “Could it really be HER?” you think and yes, it turns out is IS. Now’s your chance, man – make your move! After the usual awkward introductions, the fun really starts.

You get your game face on (grrrrrr!) and after taunting each other for a few minutes, you’re both finally ready for some real action. Megan makes a mean comment about your lack of skills with possible pointed references to your family pet, a jar of Nutella and an electric kitchen device. “Oh yeah… well, bring it!” you yell into your headset. And Megan, sitting in the air-cooled comfort of wherever she is will no doubt be shaking her fist at the screen before she yells back into her headset: “It’s BROUGHT !! POW!!!

Then, you wake up and realize you’ll never, ever, EVER get to game with Megan Fox. Your life pretty much sucks… until today, that is…

Gallery: The Saboteur

Did you ever find yourself walking home from a meeting, take a wrong turn down a dark alleyway (well, there WAS that ‘Detour’ sign with an arrow pointing right, so I detoured) and next thing you know, you wake up a short time later in a rumpled heap with a folder of screenshots in your hand and a hastily scrawled note that says: “éditez ces images, svp – des mercis, Devlin.” taped to your forehead?

No? Well, that happened to moi last night. I find out later that had I merely taken a left turn then three blocks to the subway and gone straight home, I could have picked up the same screens from one of EA’s helpfully handy PR folks and NOT get bonked on the head. Damn.

Need to find out who this “Devlin” guy is soon and give him the what-for, grrrrr
