PAX 2013: Capcom Makes My Day: Dungeons & Dragons AND DuckTales Are Back!

Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom and its sequel Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara have been two arcade games fans in the US have been begging Cacpom to localize for the US. For years, the only ways to play this were flying to Japan, buying an expensive Sega Saturn import or through not so legal emulation means, but now PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC owners will get to get down with some serious D&D arcade action in Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. Iron Galaxy is handling the dev chores on the two D&D games, which will get the HD remaster treatment and more (read that link for details – I have to warm up my happy dance) with everything set to release digitally in June.

DUCK TALES RMAs for DuckTales? This NES classic platformer is getting the SUPER royal deluxe McDuck treatment, as its HD remake is being handled by none other than WayForward Technologies, one of the best 2D developers in the business (in my humble opinion). Expect to see this one on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U this summer.  I’ll post galleries for both games later today or tomorrow, as I have a museum trip and dinner appointment calling me and I’m about to dance on over thataway, happily…

Resident Evil Revelations Story Trailer: Capcom Has A Few Things To Let You In On…

First and foremost, Capcom knows you’re interested in Resident Evil Revelations on the PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360 because you just might not be a Nintendo 3DS owner and may just have been a wee bit curious about this previously exclusive handheld-only game (that somehow skipped the Vita? Whaaaat?). Anyway, they also want you to know that no, you big silly, those aren’t up-rezzed 3DS graphics at all. The entire game has been rebuilt for home consoles and looks great throughout. They also want you to know that even though that trailer you just watched has a ton of spoilers, you still need to play the game because you’re not THAT psychic and you need to spend some more money on their products. How do I know all this? Oh, a little undead bird told me, that’s how… It also told me to not write any more bad RER poetry, so I didn’t (and you’re lucky… this time).

The Croods: Prehistoric Party Hits Nintendo Systems: It’s Time to Get Seriously Stoned!

Hey! You thought I’d forgotten to post today, hmmm? Well, I was working on some reviews at the home office and then I went to a screening of Dreakworks’ latest CG animated flick, The Croods. It’s actually quite good and pretty hilarious with some fine performances overall. Nicholas Cage actually makes a MUCH better animated caveman in this film than he does in the last couple of movies he’s made (ha ha), the 3D is pretty cool and yep, there’s a message rolling throughout, so expect some dramatic points mixed in with all the fun.

Just in time for the film, D3Publisher of America is shipping out The Croods: Prehistoric Party for the Nintendo Wii U and Wii, as a collection of 30+ mini-games presented in a fun family board game format a la Mario Party. The 3DS and DS also get versions of this, but geared toward solo play action.

Capcom Makes With The Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Humor So You Don’t Have To…

BUT WAIT, THERE’S MORE! I have the funny as hell feeling that somewhere on the Internet, SOMEONE is thinking this video is for a REAL product and is very madly tapping out that 800 number, credit card at the ready. Sucker. Of course, if Capcom DID actually release swag like this and put it up on their web shop, it would sell out in about the time it takes to watch that video. Yeah, you know how those rabid fans are. A fool and his money actually NEVER get parted because he or she sits in the corner crying because that fake number didn’t dial though. A real smart dude or dudette is broke and happy because they have a crapload of too cool swag filling their shelves. That, dear reader is today’s wisdom. Now go buy something too cool for yourself… oh, a brand new Wii U and/or 3DS and copies of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate for both systems would be a great start, I (and Capcom) would say…

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct: A Bit of Behind the Scenes With Merle & Daryl…

No, today isn’t National Zombie Day or anything like that, folks. I just go scooting through my inbox as stuff rolls in and post the fun stuff. Today just so happens to have a LOT of undead in games news. Must be a Friday thing or something…  Anyway, here’s a new look at Terminal Reality’s upcoming shooter set in The Walking Dead world. I like the gritty look of the game and some of that visceral action you’d expect from an undead-rekilling game. In a weird way, this one reminds me of BrainBox’ interesting but flawed Land of the Dead: Road to Fiddler’s Green, a FPS that had a few problems, but was actually pretty damn scary and compelling once you got past its weak points. We’ll see what’s what with Merle and Daryl’s gory adventure soon enough when The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct ships out for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC March 19, 2013.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: Two Ways For Four To Dispatch A Ton of Dinosaurs…

Wii U and 3DS owners are doing the happy dance around that blazing campfire (or they’ve cut a hole in a carpet to start one) today as Capcom has finally gotten the eagerly awaited Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate into retailers. 3DS owners who bought the game from the wonderful Capcom Online Store got a pretty cool bonus system case you’ll see in that video below. I usually hate unboxing vids, but it’s been a looooong day of still fruitless waiting for UPS and not getting much done, so I’m tired and a bit cranky because I didn’t get all the posts up I needed to. Hell, at least the Post Office delivers close to the same times each day, bleh… Well, tomorrow is another day, but I’ll be playing catch-up so I can stay on my target for the month.

Pandora’s Tower Story Trailer: What’s in the Box Will Probably Be Hard to Find Soon…

Xseed Games is getting what’s probably the final great Wii exclusive, Pandora’s Tower out soon (April 16, 2013, according to Amazon.com), and the publisher has just released a trailer that introduces Elena, the cursed singer your hero, Aeron needs to bump off a bunch of bosses in order to save. I’d absolutely suggest pre-ordering this one, as it will more than likely pull in some pretty high prices once the limited amount of copies runs dry. Recently, used copies of Xenoblade Chronicles are fetching upwards of $80 (and some have gone for well over $100) and while Xseed’s own The Last Story is still in stock at their online shop and some retailers at its original price points, it looks to join that game and this one as a rare bird indeed…

Resident Evil Revelations Infernal Mode: On May 21, You Just May Get That “Jill Sandwich” After All…

Ouch and double ouch.

RER_WiiU RER_PS3 RER_360

Moved-around monsters (with new ones to face),
items and crates now put in new place!
This is no straight port of the 3DS game
so if you die fast, you’re the one to blame.

It’s bound for PS3, 360 and Wii U May 21st
if you’re not prepared, you’ll just be the worst
So take some time off to practice your dodging
so you can spend that day off holed up in your lodging.

A boat full of nasty undead and more lurk
you’re going in alone, but don’t be a jerk
There’s no co-op here to save your nice skins
But Raid Mode is co-op for some sure-fire wins.

Those graphics are all redone in shiny HD
For all the gore, the game actually looks quite pretty
But admire the detail a wee bit too long,
and you’ll see naught but red when poor Jill’s head’s gone!

Lego City Undercover: It’s Not Quite What You Think (Which Is Very Good Indeed)…

A few months back I was actually planning to ignore this entirely… until I saw a few actual gameplay trailers and read a nice preview on another site. Well, well, well… mind changed. I always knew it wasn’t a Grand Theft Auto clone at all, as the focus is on playing a good cop out to bag baddies instead of a Lego-ized criminal out to do bad. Hell, that wouldn’t pass muster with the parental units at ALL. I mean, think about it, folks (I’ll wait)… la, la, la… yeah, THAT version some were thinking this game would be would have been blasted all over the place by the media using it to say Lego was selling v-i-o-l-e-n-c-e to the kiddies disguised as a family-friendly Lego game (and for once, they’d be right). That said, I like the campy elements here and yes, the fact that the game does parody the open world elements found in the GTA games while adding in and switching up that familiar Lego gameplay.  So, yup – I’ll be adding this one to the “must play” queue for my Wii U… and you should too (OK,  that all rhymed, but wasn’t supposed to. I am a genius – at least for this post)…

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Trailer: Captain Morgan vs Cap’n Crunch Time…

Man, these “leaks” are getting worse, but this video may not be up long. So I’m posting it now for posterity’s sake (if Ubisoft kills it on YouTube, I’ll replace it with an official one in a new post). Well, Ubisoft sure knows how to rock the boat, as this upcoming installment seems to have nothing to do with the last (shocking!) and makes you realize that those naval combat sections in Assassin’s Creed III were only the tip of the iceberg. Yes, I know a LOT of nautically themed puns, ladies and gents, but I’m sparing you all because I want to keep at least PART of my readership.
