Odds ‘n Ends, DVD Division…

odds n ends OK, Some of these flicks have already been written up as Random Films of the Week here and I’ll eventually get to anything I haven’t put up a post about at some point. Yeah, yeah, Possession and Across 110th Street aren’t US-issued DVD’s, but both are really nice looking (and cheap) South Korean versions I stumbled upon while poking around eBay looking for other DVD’s. Oh, stop with the finger waggling, chief. Hell, try and find Possession (which NEEDS an new Blu-Ray/DVD combo release one of these days) for a decent price ans anything other than an overpriced beat up rental copy and well… good luck on that one.

An nope, I don’t do the streaming thing at all as I live with a crap connection and actually PREFER a physical disc. That and I prefer watching movies from a few feet away and not with my nose half a foot or less from a handheld screen. My old eyeballs can’t do that crap with movies on tiny screens and I’ll also be cooler than you hipsters and crazy kids with your dee-vices because I’ll be able to see better than you when you’re my age, ha ha…

Random Film of the Week(end): The Man With Two Brains

The Man With Two Brains Depending on the mood you’re in, The Man With Two Brains will either be the dumbest movie you ever saw or you’ll be laughing so much that you’ll need to rewind some scenes a few times just to take them in and make sure your eyes were functioning properly. Of course, the truth is the film actually slides between both ends of that particular scale and pretty much doesn’t care whether you get every joke it throws at you.

That was pretty much the template for most of Steve Martin’s comedies back in the day before he settled into those more mundane and family friendly big box office reliable flicks that make some of his older fans cringe because they can see he’s just collecting a better paycheck rather than doing the comedy (or music, as the man can play a mean banjo!) he probably wants to.

Game of Thrones Season 2 DVD/Blu-Ray: In Case You Missed It, Don’t Duck This Time…

Thankfully, the fine folks at HBO who get these season sets out KNOW that not everyone likes streaming (or CAN stream) shows they missed, has a DVR or hell, just doesn’t have HBO at home for whatever reason. So yes indeed, if that’s YOU and you’re not watching Season 3 just yet, here you go. Granted, everyone else is laughing at you at this moment, but not too loudly. You’ve seen Season 1 already and KNOW where the pointy end goes… Poke, poke. *Ouch!* Poke, poke, poke… *Ouch, ouch!!*… OK, OK – I wasn’t laughing!

If The World IS Going To End, I’m Goin’ Out Watching Cartoons…

Harveytoons NO, I’m not one of those doomsayers who’ve managed to mix up a bunch of ancient religions, useless superstitions and poor scientific knowledge into some crazy idea that the world will be no more thanks to a misread stone calendar, a planet we’d have seen for many years about to crash into us or some other scenario cooked up by people who shouldn’t watch so many bad movies late at night. But, whatever. All I know is I’ll be charging my laptop up just in case SOMETHING does happen and the power goes out so I can relive some childhood memories on the supposed day of dooms. If we all go up an a ball o’ fire, I’ll die with a smile on my face. If we don’t, I’ll still be smiling while others are demanding their money back from those folks who’ve raked in a mint from suckers who should know better. Anyway, if you hear some chuckling while people are jumping out of buildings screaming, that’s not me laughing at fools taking themselves out of the gene pool – that’s just me in front of the TV having a blast (and a big bowl of cereal, most likely)…
