Namco Bandai’s Offices Just Got A Nice New Mascot…

Ooooooh. Okay, I want one of these. Well, to more precise, I’d WEAR an actual suit of armor like that it if were in my size. I wonder how much that would cost and how I’d live with one less kidney and lung if I had to pay for the thing. I’d store it right by the door near the coat closet here and ONLY wear it on special days. Like when I’m writing or going shopping. No one messes with a fully armored knight…. well, other than some mean-ass bunny rabbit, King Arthur and his Round Table buddies. “It’s only a flesh wound!” indeed. In the case of this game, there ARE no flesh wounds – your character lives or dies by the sword or any other weapons you’d better get quite good at if you intend to survive. The game’s tagline, PREPARE TO DIE isn’t a joke at all, that’s for sure.

Dark Souls II is out on March 11, 2014.

More Orphan Black Tease-itude? It Just Won’t Quit Until You Watch, Folks…

Nope, I’m still not watching these teasers, folks. I just embed and write up lines for you to read because I want not a thing ruined for me. I’ve already gotten a few people hooked on this show (whee!), so I’ll take my cut of the profits anytime, Beeb. Anyway, enjoy what’s here and if you run into me on the street, don’t spill any beans or else…

Game of Thrones Season 3 Recap. A Little Real History to Go With The Fake One…

Ah, if only actual politics were as simple as letting loose your dragons on some fool who thought he’d get the better of you or getting all stabby-stabby with enemies you lure into a formerly blissful wedding celebration. Nope, I don’t think we’re headed for World War III anytime soon, but the dicey situation between a few countries these past few months have a nasty parallel to the years 1936-39 if you poke through the history books. Of course, it’s hard to gauge the future based on current actions, but if the past is any indication, a lot of us will be turning to shows like GoT for some time off from real world issues. Let’s also hope that someone shows Mr. Putin some of those history books so he sees that working your way to the top over the bodies of others means the bottom rushes up faster at some point to meet you.

Things I Learned @ Toy Fair 2014 #3: The Monster Eater Makes For A Fine Best Friend…

ToyFair2014
Einar_TMEDon’t be afraid of the dark! It’s always fun to prowl the floor at Toy Fair and see people with great ideas turning them into toys with a purpose and sometimes it’s indeed true that great minds think alike. I got to see a pair of excellent dream-related items at the show worth closer examination and thanks to the two happy ladies with fine tales to tell proudly showing off their products, I’m here to give you the rundown so you can go spend some money in the near future.

Einar, The Monster Eater comes to you from Wendy Lasater of Dandy Innovations. Wendy’s a housewife with a young daughter who tends to (as many kids do) have nightmares and used to come rushing into her parents’ room to sleep with them for comfort. While many parents find this behavior acceptable, Wendy wanted to set her daughter free of whatever monsters under, in and around her room were plaguing her. Enter Einar, and a new plush hero was born…. Continue reading

Some Creative Distraction Thanks To Random Tree Time…

quickie treeYeah, I’m still working on some actual posts, but they’re in assorted stages of completion. I’ve had a few ideas change shape as I go over notes, which is both good and bad. Anyway, here’s another tree to ogle. I did this while waiting for a small download to finish and with a game playing in the background. Multitasking is a sort of specialty, I guess. Then again, I know folks who do it better and faster. And better.

Eh, I’m working on it people, I’m working on it. That’s the problem with having a working brain and far too many ideas pumping out of it. I need some clones with more focus. At least I’m not watching the Oscars this year. I’m much to preoccupied to pay attention to much other than what I’m trying to get done with this site. Think world domination without the craziness of a dictator and on a much smaller scale.

Heck, If I can get my laundry done more regularly, that’s a huge start. Off to sort some underwear and socks – back in a bit…

Sunday. Sunday. Sunday. Can I Get A Witless? Zzzzz.

Dollar VinegarSo, today was a bit slow and a tad depressing, but kind of productive in a “holy crap, why does this stuff happen?” manner. I found some fine additions to the game and film library earlier, so that’s the good news today. The not so good news was found out while doing some shopping at a formerly reliable discount store that seems to be going through a really rough patch. As in it may be shutting down soon. This is bizarre because of the nice deals there and the fact that it’s generally pretty packed on weekends with people clearing out their freezer of nicely priced frozen goodies that range from healthy to terminal artery-cloggers to surprising gourmet randomness. When the fun cheap place to shop is in trouble, you know something’s just not right… Continue reading

Orphan Black is Coming Back In April. Time To Get Teased…

I didn’t think I’d like the show, but after a friend bugged the heck out of me, I caught the third episode of Orphan Black and got hooked in before I knew what hit me. I ended up catching the rest of the season and watched the entire thing On Demand over a weekend and got even more respect for Tatiana Maslany’s outstanding performance as so many clones is so many wigs and glasses and personalities.

If you haven’t seen th show yet, you may want to check it out even if sci-fi isn’t your cup of tea (or other beverage). The writing is solid, all those characters Maslany (who was ROBBED at the Emmys this year) plays hold your interest (even the ones that don’t make it out alive) and yup, you’ll be left on the edge of whatever you were sitting on when all is said and done.

Anyway, The new season kicks off Saturday April 19 at 9/8c only on BBC America (of course). I’ve been avoiding looking at these teasers because I want to drop into the new season as cold as possible, but I’m posting these here to get you folks who’ve yet to see the show all worked up about it. If I’ve done my job properly, the show will have a few new fans camping out at home on a Saturday night…

RoboCop Versus The Terminator IS BACK (Thanks, Dark Horse Comics!)

RVT-Hardcover-WALT
RVT GALLERYThis July, Dark Horse comics is bringing back one of the classic books of the 80’s with not one, but two editions of Frank Miller and Walt Simonson’s RoboCop versus The Terminator. The book will be available at select comic shops and online in both a $24.99* hardcover version (featuring a new Simonson cover) on July 2, 2014 and a oversize LIMITED Gallery Edition for $125.00* on July 9, 2014. Miller’s story ties OCP to the creation of Skynet and Simonson’s energetic, stylized art lends the story some massive power as the two characters cross paths a few time before a killer finale.

If you’re wondering what’s the price jump all about, the Gallery Edition will be printed the same size as the original art, and include reproductions of pencil sketches and promotional artwork for the series. I say if you’re a comics fan with an interest in seeing and learning from one of the best artists in the business, this investment will be a great one. I’ve been a fan of the man’s work since the 1970’s, but my root beer budget means I’ll settle for the hardcover (ah well). I’ll have to ask in that Gallery Edition is getting a digital release or at least a download for preview/review purposes because I can look at Walt’s art all day and night.

Star Trek: New Visions #1: Byrne is Back On Trek!

Star Trek PN_IDWLast year’s Star Trek Annual 2013 was a complete sell out for IDW at retail (you can still get a digital copy here) and of course, that means legendary writer/artist/creator of new and awesome Trek content John Byrne is coming back with another photonovel this year. Even better, it seems that this Enterprise (pun intended) is now a bi-monthly series titled Star Trek: New Visions.

This time out, Byrne is expanding the popular episode “Mirror, Mirror” with a sequel, “The Mirror, Cracked” which takes place after the episode when the Enterprise crew discovers not everyone left the ship after that life-altering trip into the mirror dimension. As IDW hasn’t yet provided any pages (boo!), you’ll have to ogle that cover above and/or go download the Annual to see Byrne’s rather amazing photo manipulation and asset creation for yourself. The man’s a classic Trek fan through and through and it shows in the care he put into every panel.  Hey at $7.99 per issue, it better be some awesome Trekking, right? The 48-page, full-color book, debuts in May 2014 and given the speed at which the annual disappeared from comic shops, I’d say pre-ordering is in order.

March Onward… But Don’t Wake Me Up, Grrr!

So, I got home this evening expecting to get a few posts in before midnight, but I ended up napping instead. Hey, how did THAT happen?! Meh, so much for productivity. Oh well. I guess I needed that rest after all. I’m most likely preparing for that big snow we’re supposed to get on Monday here (boo!)… or I was just tired after a kind of silly week. Okay, I need to get some articles completed and posted – more Toy Fair impressions, some reviews, an update to a movie post for a blogathon and so forth and so on.

And yes, I woke up to post this and am now going back to bed. Good Night, class. See you in a few hours… Zzzzzz…
