Humor: Another Trip To Bedrock’s Music Scene…

Cow belly, pot of beans
Tie a rope around your jeans
Tell your ma not to wait
You ain’t getting home till late…

Hmmm… based on those first four lines from the Bedrock Twitch, you’ll either be apologizing to some blind date for insulting her size or you’re on the way to a nice shotgun wedding for what happened afterwards. Or both, knowing some of you out there who can’t keep a secret or stay out of trouble at the same time. Thankfully, for the rest of you who know what’s what with this kooky tune, it’s all about bouncing around the room and keeping the tune going with a funny wig on your head and two-string guitar (made of stone, at that!) so it’s all good. Yeah, you KNOW you’re up and doing that one-foot hop, too. I won’t tell… but your dog may bite you for waking it up if you bounce by too loudly… or because you have the cat on your head thanks to not having a wig handy. “Twitch, twitch!”

Game of Thrones 3:6 Recap/Inside The Episode: It’s Torture (But We’re Almost There)…

So, after by brain tanked out on me on Sunday thanks to my over-thinking stuff while I should have been just watching the show, I watched the episode again last night and it still did seem a bit oddly paced thanks to a few too many surprises dropping out of nowhere and the continuing torture scenes that need a KNOCKOUT resolution for all the build up going on. That’s not a bad thing at all, though. In retrospect, some things just happening the way they did shows how random and unpredictable life is in that crazy world where everyone’s scheming to get over on someone else (with often drastic consequences) and the slower-moving ones get crushed by the juggernaut of fate, which is mighty tall and indeed, heavy as you’d think (times ten). Well, the next few episodes should make for some eye-popping (or finger and other body part mangling) moments as everything comes to a head. Suspense is highly underrated as a commodity on TV these days.

(Well, at least I think so, as someone who hates all this second screen nonsense and trolling the Internet for clues as to what’s going to happen. I say treat the show like a surprise party and yes, you’ll actually BE surprised…)

AMC’s The Killing Returns (And Those Who Hate Thinking Will Hate It. Again.)…

I really liked AMC’s The Killing because it wasn’t yet another a cut and dried 47-minute police procedural show where everything got wrapped up nicely at the end of each episode with the killer getting his or hers with witty catch-phrases from some overpaid superstars. In fact, having its single case last not one, but TWO gloomy seasons practically doomed the show with the CSI and other sillier crime shows crowd, but for people like me who like complexity in their stories and characters, I found the show quite enjoyable even when it made a few mistakes. That said, I thought it was dead forever after the critical and viewer drubbing it got during the last season by some writers and viewers, but thankfully AMC is getting it together with an all-new case and some intriguing-looking teasers.

Granted, it’s the “Oooh, the big baaad serial killer” thing that’s the trend now in some other new and old crime shows,, so there’s the risk of (wait for it…, waaaait for it…) overkill (ba-dum-bum!), but I think the writers here can pull it off quite well. As usual, we shall see, right?

Defiance Recap 103: Oops, I Missed A Spot!

I also just realized that after each episode of Defiance, there’s a brief recap deal called “Shooting the Shtako” that goes over a few bits with someone from the cast and one of the producer types. OK, OK, I’m still more used to seeing these sorts of things after the show on the same damn screen I watched it on, not online or via a tablet or Dick Tracy watch or whatever. Hey, I like my old-fashioned ways. The keep me out of trouble and with more cash to blow on food instead of new tech every three months or so. Then again, if I were some big deal celebrity writer type, a snap of the fingers and a quick phone call or email would probably have me drowing in a sea of second, third and fourth screens. But I like my privacy a lot more than I do being chased down the street by rabid fans, sooo…

Eh, whatever – once the show makes it to home video at some point, all these features will be clogging up a few discs, that’s for sure…

Game of Thrones 3:7 Preview: Up That Mountain, Down That Hill (Enjoying The Bumpy Ride)…

For some reason, that last episode felt a wee bit too convoluted. Maybe it’s because I was distracted by finishing up some posts I’ve been working on the last coupe of days, but there was so much that happened that I had to watch the episode again just to make sure I was sure about a few things (like a certain character no longer being with us – yikes). Well, unpredictability IS part of the GoT universe, so things are going really as unplanned on that front. Three more episodes to go and I don’t think that the momentum is going to slow down at all. Well, those seat belts I installed on the chair were a good investment, that’s for sure…

Defiance 1:4 “A Well Respected Man” Teaser: Adrenaline Junkies Need Apply…

Ah, the drug episode. I figured the writers would need to get that out of the way at some point. Amusingly enough, it’s an idea that I think they lifted lightly from the awful sci-fi action flick I COME IN PEACE, so I’m hoping to see a better job done as well as a reference that makes me crack up. Well, no CD’s cutting off heads, as that would be TOO obvious. Anyway, onward! So far, I’m liking this first season of Defiance and its little surprises, so my Mondays are now temporarily a tiny bit less dull. That’s a bit of an in-joke, as they’re always busy, but it’s good to have something to watch while working. of course, if I’m trying to write while watching a show I like, I only end up getting anything done if that show has commercials (oops). Well, I’d never thought I’d say “thank goodness foe syfy!”, but there you go… and that’s probably the ONLY time you’ll hear that from me. Well, given that we’re NOT actually having this conversation, you DIDN’T hear it from me at all…

Game of Thrones Season 3:5 – Recap Time, Secrets Spilled (Well, Not So Much)…

It’s actually pretty hilarious that we got a nice sharp shock at the end of that last episode and a nice low-key one-two punch this week. Hmmm… I can see a few weird weddings in the not too distant future… or perhaps not, given the tendency for things to go all sorts of wrong in Westeros these days. On the other hand, a certain house with the upper hand will no doubt be none to pleased that some of its members have been a wee bit incapacitated (well, permanently in two cases) by some not so nice folks. I can smell the scenery chewing from here and nope, I’d not want to be standing in the way of a certain ruler when he gets wind of what’s happened…

Meanwhile, there’s a dragon-led army stomping into either the last two or three episodes (or worse, Season 4), although I’m thinking that Dragonborn will need a few more troops, as a mere eight thousand might not cut it. Oh, we’ll see, we’ll see… I’m just playing devil’s advocate here, that’s all…

Doctor Who Revisited: Tom Baker Is MY Doctor (And He Doesn’t Charge A Thing)…

I’m ancient enough to remember seeing Tom Baker as Doctor Who on PBS here and wondering what the hell was up with that scarf and crazy behavior. Of course, next week I was back for more and so forth and so on. I still think he’s the best of the Doctors (and Sarah Jane Smith was the best sidekick in my opinion), but of course, everyone has a favorite depending on when they stepped into the series. Hell, I’m old enough to remember those movies from the 60’s, but they didn’t leave much of an impression until I decided to sit down with them again about a year or so ago. Anyway, happy 50th, Doc!

Game of Thrones Season 3:6 Preview: Four to Go (Hairs Left on My Head, That Is)…

Well, the plot thickens (again)… unlike my hair that’s falling out from each episode’s level of tension, the brewing troubles are certainly boiling over and yeah, people still find time to get it on in the strangest of places. Heh. That said, I hate ONLY having ten shows per season as once you get past the halfway point, there’s only a big countdown in your head until it’s all done for the year (or so). There are going to be quite a few loose ends that require tying up and four shows seems so little, particularly with this crazy season where so much is happening in so many places. Well, I can’t (and aren’t) complaining, as it’s definitely keeping me coming back week after week…

Stop The Wayback Machine! Mr. Peabody & Sherman (and Rocky & Bullwinkle) Are Coming Back? Eeek.

The Old Gang File this entry in the “Wait, what?” Department. Hmmm… on ONE front, this is truly awesome news, as I’m as old as the hills and LOVE Jay Ward’s humor and these characters to death. That said, I’m all too curious as to just WHO the Hecuba this new comic series (and upcoming Dreamworks animated movie) are targeted at.

I’d bet only those very-oldsters like me and whatever college-agers who happen to get a knowing chuckle from the old cartoons will even give a damn, while the Generation “Why” kids that get dragged to this will be sitting there texting for an hour and a half or so. Or worse, sitting there with their arms folded with a cranky “I’m going to kill you in your sleep!” look on their ungrateful faces because some parental unit tried to get them to like something THEY loved as an impressionable kid or young adult.

Of course, I’m betting that instead of historical figures from the past we old folks learned about in school, IDW might tap into more modern and a lot less “historical” figures from pop culture or other time periods that, frankly speaking, won’t be as funny to mine for the old show’s offbeat (and intentionally incorrect) pokes. Ugh… now I have memories of that eyeball and brain searing take on The Three Stooges from a few years back…
