Donsuemor Delivers Today’s Delicious Diversion

SNOWY

So. That’s the view outside living room my window here today. There’s about oh, 4 or so inches of snow on the ground and it’s still coming down. It’s not that bad out, but considering I woke up still not completely over my yucky throat stuff, I wasn’t looking forward to heading outside. After some medication, a bowl of soup and yeah, yeah, a cup of coffee to kick me in the pants, I was still feeling a bit out of sorts.

And then the intercom rang, buzzing me out of my haze. Who the heck could it be on such a lousy day? Fed Ex? Hmmm. The Rolodex inside my fuzzy head started spinning as I wondered what was coming up in the elevator. I wasn’t expecting any games, I just got a nice movie delivery from MVD and any other surprises I couldn’t quite think of in my somewhat toady condition. It’s a good thing my memory wasn’t working correctly, folks… Continue reading

Random Art: Head Cold, Remedy Required

A little rusty

I think this extra dopey and drawn out winter has frozen my brain or something. I have a huge list of stuff to do and it’s as if my head is filled with Cra-Z-Sand or something. Well, this too shall pass as it normally does, but it seems to be worse this year and more annoying because the ideas are piling up faster than I can get them out. Eh, I just need a vacation or some quiet time, is all. Or some helper monkeys to keep pouring coffee into me and poking me with fencing foils (with the rubber tips on, of course!). Hmmm. Well, let’s get the brain wagon back into gear and see if that hill can be surmounted. Giddyap!

Gearing Up For Toy Fair is Tough Work!

Let’s see now… I’m sort of taking today off because I’m making a new, longer list of Toy Fair 2015 meetings for this weekend and I have a pre-show event to pop into this afternoon to check out a few items. I’d initially promised myself I wouldn’t do any more pre-show events because under certain circumstances it gets to be SO busy running around that I end up too pooped when the show actually starts. However, I made two exceptions this year because of the folks who reached out that didn’t forget they reached out and didn’t suddenly get back to me to say their events were overbooked.

I get invited to a load of events and respond as soon as I see the invite. Once in a while, the PR person who contacted me and took my reservation will get back to me a few days after I confirm or too often, right around the day the event takes place to say something like “oops, we overbooked!” without letting me know what I can do about seeing the product they were gushing about so fervently in that invite. The latest example of this was a big deal film screening/press junket I was SUPPOSED to attend this week, only to be told last minute that they ran out of room AND to hold out for a new screening date (which didn’t happen). Gee, thanks. So much for promoting your film or whatever else you were looking for from me, big megacorp deluxe who’s burned me one too many times. I got yer Throwback Thursday right here, Foo. Anyway, let me get back to my regularly scheduled day.

Back in a bit, maybe with a quick followup post if I make it back before the library closes.

Happy Merry Something or Other!

Well, I’ve kind of been taking it “easy” these last few days, but not really. After a bunch of calls and back and forth and another inspection, the kitchen will (maybe) finally get somewhat completed around January 4th and 5th. Of course, while all that was going on, the old pipe behind the wall in the home office that was supposed to be fixed when they took the wall apart a few years back? Yeah, yeah… it sprung a leak again. That needs to be tackled, but it’s going to take a while thanks to the way things work around here (quite stupid in terms of getting the simplest repairs done which turn into major repairs by the time they’re attended to). Anyway, I was going to post some of the digital Holiday cards I’ve gotten here, but ha and double ha… the internet connection is sloooooooower than usual today. I guess if I believed in Santa, he’d have gotten me a better connection, huh? Well, I’m too old for that stuff, so I’ll stick to shaking my fist at reality and fighting harder so I can get all the crap I want without sticking my head in the fantasy jar…

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! Zzzzzzz….

Throwback Thursdays: I’ll Trade Almost Any Other Thursday For This One…

kitchen nightmare

Hee-ho! So, I find out that the now asbestos-free kitchen here won’t get that new wall and ceiling until DECEMBER. Over the course of four or five non-consecutive days, at that. Yaaaah. So much for the idea of even thinking of having anyone over for Thanksgiving. Who do I need to send a herd of elephants to run over to get a break here? Anyway, some good news comes in the form a a diversion this evening downtown thanks to La Maison du Chocolat inviting me to sample some of their Holiday Collection. hey, chocolate is good for you when you’re stressed! Okay, I’ll make sure to think of all of you while I’m at the event. I may end up oversampling because I’m thinking of all of you out there, so it’s your fault if I end up in a chocolate haze in some alley near La Maison’s NYC shops selling my coat and shoes for a fix.

Hmmm. I feel a song coming on… fortunately I’m NOT doing the singing:

(Thanks, DetroitLives313!)

Back tomorrow or perhaps later tonight if I’m not in a cocoa coma. I’m sitting on a ton of drafts and almost done stuff. I just need to get enough time to get away from the madness here to finish stuff up.

I Was Out Getting Geeked Today. And How Was YOUR Thursday?

Another day, another media event! Okay, short day for me today, as I was at the #getgeeked media event this afternoon and didn’t have time to post anything earlier thanks to needing to run out before the event to get a few boxes in the mail and take care of a few other things. I’ll be back tomorrow with some Kabam previews, maybe a review or two and a bunch of stuff I’m wrapping up that will show up over the weekend. I’ve been playing South Park Pinball for the past two days and it’s actually quite impressive in that “Oh, it’s a pair of really tricky tables!” (especially that Butters one!).

Back in a bit.

After a Too-Packed Wednesday… Comes the Writening! Well, Not Just Yet…

Yeah, there’s a bit of delay of game as I’m kind of stuck here for a bit with my slow connection and holding my breath for a package I was supposed to get maybe a week ago. Bleah. Anyway, I may take this waiting time to get in some more progress in Alien Isolation from an older save, as I made a rather interesting mistake that’s done nothing but made me curious as to what would have happened if I didn’t do what I did in that old save. PROTIP: don’t kill off ALL of the people shooting at you in one early area, as they’ll be fine Alien bait when you need to revisit that spot. Scope out the map carefully BEFORE you pick up that key item and plan a route to that exit, THEN pick up that item and make a mad dash for an upper hiding spot before working your way around to that temporary escape point.

Ehm, anyway… I’ll be posting hands-on reports for Dragon Age Inquisition (it’s fantastic, shut up and buy it), a bunch of Kabam’s incredibly addictive mobile games, and some great stuff coming from 505 Games including Ember, a mobile RPG that NEEDS to bee seen to be believed, a spiritual successor to the Puzzle Quest series by the same team, a super-cute matching monsters surprise and the updates version of How to Survive that’s going to make fans of that game run out and grab a PS4 if they haven’t already. Between that and some other stuff I’m fiddling with finishing, it’s going to be a mostly quite day in terms of posts. Hokay, let the boring begin! What’s the sound waiting makes again? Hmmmmm… I’ll ask that Alien when I see him, I guess.

Things We Learned To-day*…

not ice cream1. If it’s called “Dairy Dessert” it sure isn’t ice cream. Not by a long shot. Yeah, it’s cold and sweet (TOO sweet), but that’s about it. AVOID it at all costs (especially if it costs $2.49 for so much. You DO get what you pay for, folks. Yuck). Bonomo Turkish Taffy may have “tasted” like ice cream back in the day, but I’m not five years old anymore and this stuff is just a frozen fructose bomb with cancer color added for bad measure.

2. For some reason, lower bandwidth has gotten me a game demo faster than a connection four times as fast. I may write an article about this, but I’m too busy right now to get to it. Maybe once the weekend is over? We shall see. Oh, that demo was for the twin stick shooter Crimsonland on the Vita. Sword Art Online is still in the process of being downloaded, though. I only had about two hours to get it done but it’s FINALLY past the halfway point and I think I can get the rest of the game tomorrow in about the same time as it took today to get half loaded up. yeah, digital-only gaming sucks in some cases, especially when you’re in an area where the service is overpriced AND subject to sloth-like “speed”…
