Aliens: Infestation Launch Trailer: WayForward Wows Once More

What’s looking like one of the last great Nintendo DS games is winging your way courtesy Sega, WayForward Technologies and Gearbox Software. No flashy gimmick here, folks – just good, solid old-school gameplay, amazing 2D visuals and plenty of action. This one is definitely in the running for portable game of the year in my book. I really hope a PSP version is in the works, as this game is too good to be relegated to a single platform…

Sega Announces Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown Playable at PAX

Yes, this is truly awesome news, but we NEED this on a disc, Sega!!! Check out the Sega Blog for huge details and a chance to play the game at PAX. Since it’s not officially coming out until 2012, that gives you hardcore VF fans plenty of time to practice (and new players plenty of time to practice losing to them online). Sure, a Virtua Fighter 6 would be a far better announcement, but this is one of those great games that still has legs five years after its release thanks to the incredible depth and fantastically precise controls. Of course, I’m still terrible at VF, having moved on to other games that require less mastering, but I’ll definitely give it a go as soon as it drops into NYC at a Sega press event.

Gamescom 2011: Sonic Generations Trailer – The Hedgehog Still Has It Going On…

It looks as if we’re getting yet another solid Sonic game zooming our way soon enough. This time, classic and current play get mashed up in a cool way, so everyone should be pretty pleased with the end result. Of course, I’m still waiting for those Panzer Dragoon Box and Shining Force III Complete remakes, a new Otogi game and a ton of other stuff Sega’s NOT working on, but I’ll take the good stuff they’re producing one game at a time starting with this one…

Aliens: Infestation Headed to Nintendo DS This Fall (Way To Go,WayForward!)

Just when you thought the Nintendo DS was going to roll over and die an unceremoniously dull and quiet death thanks to Nintendo pushing the 3DS hard as the next big thing, there's a ray of light that pokes through (well, BLASTS through) and shows everything is just peachy (for the moment). Sega has announced that Aliens: Infestation is headed to the portable this September. WayForward Technologies with a little help from Aliens: Colonial Marines developer Gearbox Software are taking the hugely popular film franchise on what's looking to be a wild retro ride that could be the best portable Aliens game to date.

Given that there haven't been too many good Alien or Aliens games on a handheld, that's really not saying much to some of you out there. On the other hand, if you know WayForward's stunning 2D work on the Game Boy Advance and DS (Their Contra reboot was phenomenal) as well as the upcoming BloodRayne: Betrayal, you know you're in for a superior firepower-packed instant classic. Hell if the DS IS going to go out soon, it's absolutely going to go out with a nuclear bang. I can't wait to see how this one's turned out.

Star Odyssey Released – Time To Dig Out The Genesis!

Awesome. SuperFighter Team has released its latest retro game project, the long-awaited Star Odyssey for the Sega Genesis and Mega Drive systems. The game (known as Blue Almanac in Japan) was one of a number of projects for Sega’s 16-bit console that was started but never fully completed in terms of an English localization, but thanks to the dedication and a ton of hard work by Brandon Cobb the rest of SFT, it’s finally done with many improvements and ready for purchase HERE.

As usual, expect a high-quality package complete with a the game cartridge, clam shell case, full-color manual and art insert. As someone who remembers reading a preview article for this one back in the day (and later ended up buying and playing carefully through some of the Japanese version without knowing a bit of the language), you better believe I just ordered a copy. I’ll post a review around the end of July. In the meantime, go dig out that Genny from the closet (or go buy one cheap on ebay) and shell out the $48 (including US shipping) for this resurrected sci-fi RPG gem – I’m betting you won’t regret it one bit.

Binary Domain Story Trailer: Nothing "New", But That’s Just Fine…

Holy cats, it’s summer already. Here’s a look at a story trailer from Sega’s upcoming sci-fi shooter. Sure, it’s a bit generic, but at the end of the day, it’s all about the game, the gameplay and whether both are fun to dive into. Speaking of, yes, the Duke review is late – I’m just about to complete the game for the third time just to prove a point. It’s a lot better than the reviews say, but it seems not a lot of today’s gamers (and sadly, some critics) have bothered to go back and play Duke Nukem 3D so they could see what was intended. Don’t worry Duke, I’m coming to save your ass!

E3 2011: Captain America: Super Soldier Prologue: Secret Level’s On the Right Track…

Can Cap rescue Sega from the not quite stellar superhero game doldrums? Well, I think it can, but I guess it’s up to you guys and gals with the wallets to decide. Here’s a look at a cool CG movie from the upcoming game. Remember kids, “When he’s led to a fight and a duel is due, then the red and the white and the blue will come through…”

Anarchy Reigns Character Profile: Leo is Back!

Platinum Games’ online enabled brawler is Sega’s second chance and getting it right in terms of publishing a decent multiplayer beat-down (the first was the woeful Iron Phoenix), but it looks as if Platinum is going for the gold here. I’d say that Leo is one more AR character you’d not want to come across in a dark alley, broad daylight or any other situation unless you were being very well protected.

Super Fighter Team Debuts Star Odyssey in France

Sure, it happened last November, but for a time-traveling gaming junkie like me, it’s always going to be 19XX at some point during the day. How come games like this aren’t given the royal(e) treatment in the US? I guess flashy 3D graphics, millions of bucks spent on ads, parties and hype and generating celebrity-based buzz is more important than keeping these flames alive, but as Super Fighter’s Brandon Cobb says: “Never let Dreams Die!” I can’t wait to plunk down some hard-earned cash for this game once it’s all done. More information on Star Odyssey is available at the game’s official website

Binary Domain Gameplay Footage

Sega shoots out this gameplay trailer from its upcoming sci-fi action/shooter. Looking pretty cool, so far… we’ll have to see how it all comes together with some hands-on time…
