Nintendo Unveils Holiday 2009 Lineup

And it’s a BIG lineup at that. Granted, this long as heck listing happens to includes both first and third-party Wii and DS releases, WiiWare and DSiWare exclusive titles as well as games that aren’t coming out until early 2010 (which is part of the 2009 fiscal year, so they’ll still count when profits are totaled). Release dates are yes, subject to change on some of these (as per usual with such a lengthy list of upcoming games).

Trailer: Calling

It may be a bit low-res, but this brief, creepy teaser of Hudson’s upcomingWii horror game, Calling (set to hit retail sometime in Spring 2010) is nicely unsettling, in a Ringu kinda way.

After watching this a few too many times, I’m not picking up the phone for at least a month AND I’ll be walking backwards so no one sneaks up behind me. Or maybe I should just hold off on leaving the house at all until AFTER the game comes out… y’know, just in case…

Damn kids and their creepy dolls these days…

The Beatles: Rock Band Final Song List/Pricing

“All together now:” Who’s not even the least bit curious about how this game will affect the interest level in both the music games genre and video gaming in general. With media outlets covering this as if it’s some sort of alien spacecraft making first contact and interest in the game from plenty of non-gamers who grew up listening to the Fab Four, it’ll be quite interesting to see how this translates at retail starting tomorrow.

Anyway, here’s a chunk of the press release that just landed in my inbox. Gallery to come in a separate post.

Dead Space Extraction Goes Gold

EA has announced that Dead Space Extraction for the Nintendo Wii has gone gold and should be in stores on September 29, 2009. Also announced was a nice bonus: pre-ordering the game at selected retailers will give gamers access to four of the game’s ten challenge modes for solo or co-op play. The Wii exclusive game is a prequel to the events of last year’s huge sci-fi/horror action hit on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Dead Space and was developed by Eurocom with a huge assist from  Visceral Games.

Scene It? Bright Lights! Big Screen! – Coming Soon to a Console Near You!

After making quite a splash on the Xbox 360, the next entry in the popular Scene It? movie trivia game series will appear on all three home consoles this year. Warner Bros. Big Screen! is currently in development at A2M (Artificial Mind and Movement) and will be available this holiday season. The new game will feature thousands of all-new questions including many on 2009 film releases, an improved single player game (hooray!) and loads of mini-games.

You know the drill by now, folks: press release below, screenshots afterward…

Hudson Announces Lost In Shadow

More Hudson news? OK! The company has also announced Lost in Shadow, a unique new platformer/adventure/puzzle game hybrid scheduled to reach the Nintendo Wii sometime in Summer 2010. Based on the images and press release below, my take on this one is that I’m definitely intrigued. Stylistically, the game’s visuals and color palette seem highly influenced by the phenomenal PlayStation 2 sleeper hit from 2001, ICO. Similar aesthetics aside, it will be extremely interesting to see this one in action, as the shadow platforming idea is certainly innovative enough for a really solid game experience.

Below the jump are the complete press release and five screenshots for your reading and viewing enjoyment.

DAF Q & A Updates!

Since I’ve gotten a few e-mails about the Q & A’s I’ve set up, here’s a follow-up or two to fill you in:

1. I’m still waiting for the fine (and very busy) folks at Xseed to get those Valhalla Knights: Eldar Saga Q’s I sent off a while ago back this way. But remember, folks: Xseed is comprised of a really small team with multiple projects going simultaneously for the Wii and other platforms.

2. I have an interview coming back this way soon with a few team members at Big Blue Bubble, the folks working on Fighting Fantasy: The Warlock of Firetop Mountain, a great looking first-person RPG for the Nintendo DS set to be published by Aspyr. It would have been back sooner, but another site or magazine with more clout bumped my former “exclusive” so they could get their scoop first. And so it goes in this industry…. ah well.

I’m also working on a few other potential interview subjects for the near future – stay tuned…

Nintendo World to Host Muramasa: The Demon Blade Launch Party

Hey! If you’re in the NYC area on Saturday, September 5, 2009, why not make the most of it and boogie on down, up, sideways or however else you can over to the Nintendo World Store located in Rockefeller Plaza (which is near Rockefeller Center, by the way).

Why? Well, it’s the Muramasa: the Demon Blade Release Par-tay, that’s why! Details below the jump…

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Ship Date, Awesome Pre-Order T-Shirt Revealed

Leave it to Capcom to go and cook up one of the coolest, craziest pre-order T-shirts I’ve ever seen (beating even that insanely groovy tie-dyed Raz T-shirt from Psychonauts) and they know it. Gamers who pre-order Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles for the Wii from GameStop will receive a ridiculously versatile T that, when pulled over the head, turns into an instant zombie disguise.

The T’s were first introduced at this year’s San Diego Comic-con and of course, the killer reaction from the crowds meant more gamers will get the chance to nab one of these goodies. It’s goofy… but really effective at first glance, as you’ll see below: Continue reading
