Free Music Alert Plus: Download Dishonored’s Tune, Win Big By Making Your Own Remix

Hey! Free stuff is ALWAYS great, right? Right!  But, add in a chance to be creative with that free stuff in order to get MORE free stuff and we’re in mind expanding territory here. Well, not really – I just have a word count to meet and this sort of cheery banter fills that up quite nicely. Er, anyway… this IS a really cool contest for you creative types out there who like to tinker with tunes.  Go check out the Drunken Whaler MP3 over at the Bethesda Blog, download it and get with the remixing, mateys. Come up with a suitably stunning slice of DJ delivery, enter the contest and guess what? If you win, you walk away smiling with a copy of Dishonored for your efforts. Get cracking fast, Cap’n Hook (or is it Cap’n Crunch?), as you all need to submit your shanties by September 28. YES, 2012. Geez, some people…

Dishonored is in stores October 9 for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Yes, you need to buy it. There’s a very deadly assassin on the cover who just may find time for some extracurricular field work if you don’t.

(Disclaimer: Bethesda makes no endorsements about thinly veiled threats from fictional video game characters towards readers of this blog about the non-existent potential  for bodily harm if they don’t buy their upcoming Arkane Studios-developed game. That’s my job.)

WIN FREE STUFF! Two Tiny Troopers Steam Codes Up For Grabs!

UPDATE: CONTEST CLOSED!  WINNERS PICKED!  CODES SENT!  WHEE!
Hey! You look like you could use a game break, so here’s a quick giveaway for two lucky readers. Tiny Troopers for PC is a fun action/real-time strategy hybrid from Kukouri Mobile Entertainment and Iceberg Interactive that’s been getting some pretty solid reviews for the iOS and Android versions.

Now, lucky PC and Mac gamers can give this enhanced version of the game a shot through Valve’s always rockin’ Steam download service, where the game is normally $9.99, but is on sale until September 7, 2012 through the Steam store for 20% off. That, by the way, is what they call a STEAL in this day and age.

Here’s a peek at the game (and of course, gameplay) for you:

Looks pretty cool, huh?  I say go make yourself and the developer happy and buy this game.  Or, you could luck out and be one of two winners here simply by being the first two folks to post a note below. Don’t get too giddy now and put your email address in that note, now – I know how to track you down without it.  Anyway, RULES: you DO need a Steam account to enter, the game is PC and Mac compatible and there’s only ONE code per winner, so don’t get grabby, now!  Winners will be emailed their codes, so yes, having an actual email address will help as well. Also, even if you don’t win, the game is a good enough deal at either the full or reduced price to make a great purchase for yourself or someone else.

Anyway, if you’ve read this far and haven’t replied, you might not be a winner, so get cracking!

Capcom Keeps Dragon’s Dogma Going With New PS3 Demo, Content and Contest

Now this is how you make a great game even greater. In addition to the recent announcements that a sequel is in the works and the company is looking at turning the series into a franchise (I want a Vita side story!) Capcom is turning its sleeper smash action/RPG Dragon’s Dogma into even more of an “evergreen” title thanks to more cool content coming soon.  Fans can expect a new PS3 demo, an Easy Mode update for both PS3 and Xbox 360 owners and a fun contest using the game’s photo sharing feature over at the hugely popular fan community site, The Gran Soren Times.

The new PS3 demo, which features the Prologue, full character creation and a bit of play time (up to the Hydra boss battle) will also allow save data to be transferred to the full retail version. PSN users can expect to see the demo soon on the PlayStation Store starting from from August 15th in Europe and in North America on August 21st. I’ve already sunk a few hundred hours into the Xbox 360 version of the game, but now I want to dive into the PS3 version at some point, as DD is one of my favorite game experiences of 2012.  I’d say it’s going to be one of yours as well once you give the game a play.

Wait, What? They’re Making A Lego Movie? Argh, But Go Enter The Vehicle Design Contest (With A Caveat)…

Yeesh. OK, that’s it, my childhood gets another kick to the groin. Can we kind of put a halt to some of the more obviously stupid film ideas coming out of Hollywood these days? Look, I liked LEGOs as a kid and as an adult, I can still really enjoy some of the more creative uses for them (I’m talking about art-wise, silly!) as well as a bunch of the better LEGO video games. But really? A movie? Why? Because someone thought since the games are so hip and fresh and whatever and make millions and LEGO still sells well across all ages that somehow, taking the interactivity away from them and forcing people to sit on their asses for two hours and watch whatever the sixteen or so screenwriters (which is probably a low estimate on my part) come up with to make millions want that time and ticket fee back? Ugh. Count me out, but I’ll catch it on cable if I’m sick and can’t get out of bed.

Anyway, go enter the vehicle contest if you like, but If you DO win, remember this nugget of truth: a mere thousand bucks and signing your rights away for eternity is a shitty deal no matter how you slice it. If I’m dead wrong and this flick manages to rake in the bazillions, that one grand winner will be losing out on a nice chunk of change for not getting a better cut of the film’s profits. Oh, and if there’s a LEGO: The Movie: The Video Game, I’m going to be making fun of it daily until WB sends Bane and The Joker after me. Travelers Tales has MUCH better things to be doing with their time, I say…

Atlus Wants YOU To Win This Cool Persona 3 Artbook…

Hooray for free stuff, as it’s a nice Monday brightener! Atlus is going to be making 25 lucky, lucky random winners across the U.S. of A. (only, sorry overseas folks!) VERY happy with this lovely Persona 3 Official Design Works book published by Udon Entertainment (a $39.99 value!) simply by signing up as a new member (or already being a current member) of the Atlus Faithful and keeping their fingers and toes crossed when the drawing is held on July 16th.

I’d have my own fingers and toes crossed, but I need to type and I also have to go to the bathroom as soon as I finish posting this.

Activision Wants YOU To Be The Next Bond Game Bad Guy (Or Gal)…

Nice. This is a pretty cool promotion for the upcoming Eurocom-developed multi-platform game 007 Legends that allows anyone to sign up, submit a photo of themselves along with a description of their evil world dominating ways for a chance to get into the final version of the game. Of course the big catch here is it’s a popularity contest with the community voting on the best Bond baddie. I’d prefer the developers choose in order to make sure this is taken 100% seriously, but I guess I should trust that there are some reliable Bond fans out there who can come up with a few great villains for Bond to go up against. OK, I know you’re itching to dress up like Dr. Evil and snap some pictures for your chance in the spotlight (before Bond busts a cap in your cap, chap) – go to it, already!

Telltale Games Wants YOU To Be In The Walking Dead Game. So Go Do It Already.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. You HATE pre-ordering, right? You want to wait on your hands until the big review sites pass judgment on the games you want, then wait some more until they hit the clearance bin and snap them up for a song (or a whistle when they drop in price even quicker).

However… Telltale isn’t having that noise, kids – they’re giving ONE of you out there your big, fat chance to be IMMORTALIZED digitally in the upcoming game based on Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic and all you need to do is… guess what?  Easy as pie to enter and it doesn’t involve becoming irreversibly infected with a zombie virus at all. So go make yourself a potential neighborhood superstar and take a chance on winning this one. As much as a feel like one of the undead most mornings, I’d go and enter, but I’m sure us media elite (little in-joke there) aren’t allowed… rawr!

And While You’re Waiting, Here’s Some More Random Art…

Yes, I’m still BURIED in Skyrim (and a few other games, bouncing back and forth between no fewer than six titles), so here’s some more art from my fanzine self-publishing days. Only the Baby Coco Bandicoot cover actually made it to print. The other two were unused and part of my pre-planning back then. I had a ton of content written and article ideas mapped out for about ten issues, but I didn’t want to worry about having to come up with cover art at the last minute. Drawing out a bunch of ideas (I think around 15-20) made for an easier time in planning what other art I wanted to run in each issue. Of course, getting hired to write for the late, lamented Gametour.com (which morphed into Foul Magazine) ended my days as a ‘zine publisher and some of the content (a rather small amount) I’d wanted to run in Continue ended up as part of Gametour and later Foul’s dozen issue run. I’ll run a few more unpublished sketches a bit later if you’re interested…
