Saturday Night Fever, Ralph Kramden Style!

(thanks, compukatz!)

I keep forgetting to remind myself to research if there’s a box set or something legal of The Honeymooners on a disc I can buy, as I miss that show and don’t have the stamina to sit through the marathon on New Year’s Day that WPIX here runs every year. That and I’d probably spend the time watching The Twilight Zone marathon on syfy (ugh, that illiterate renaming STILL offends me!) instead. Or find something else to do like play too many games I need to catch up on. So yes, that’s the primary reason for this post, ladies and germs. I like gentle and funny reminders to get stuff done and you needed a laugh on an early Sunday morning, so it’s a win-win situation, correct?

OK, that’s my good deed for the day – now go get some sleep. It’s going to be a long day tomorrow and you need to make it back home to catch Breaking Bad

Random Art: Stuff to Not Wake Up and See #2 (Collect ’em All)

hauntI was actually going to post this one later in the week, but what the hey. I’m in a good mood today or something like that. Actually, I’m making progress in reworking the bunch of stuff I lost on that USB drive, so I guess this is a happy face (sings: “Put on a happy faaaaaaace!”). Yeah, OK. Let me stop here before your eardrums fall out and/or someone mails me a puppy or something. Don’t so that, by the way. Animlas seem to like me, but I have eye allergies that act up something awful around most animals with hair (and some people, too).

Hey, I’m a happy guy, really I am! I think this piece is incomplete anyway, as it’s part of an older drawing I clipped out and blew up on my scanner before dinking around with it in a few paint programs. Enjoy (I guess)… and pleasant dreams!

Random Art: Stuff to Not Wake Up and See #1 (Collect ’em All!)

waking to this...

Yeah, everyone has bad dreams, but you do wake up and usually things are back to some semblance of normalcy. On the other hand, you could be drifting out of dreamland and as your eyeballs are creeping open to catch that alarm clock a minute before it goes off, you see this mug staring into your mug. Feel free to swing a fist, pillow, pet or if you find it somewhat cute, give a big friendly hug. The surprise of any of the former actions will usually cause it to faint (a bit melodramatically, with a loud squeak and probably some gassy action), allowing you to make good your escape.

(OK, it’s just a portion of an old sketch I blew up and tinkered with in a paint program before making up a quick story behind the image. Just killing some time while downloading some files, folks…)

New Puppeteer Trailer Makes Your Friday Night Surreal (or Something Worse)…

OK, I laughed at this trailer, but I bet some of you out there get freaked out my over-sized masks and goofy costumes like others flip out over circus (or other) clowns. If that’s you, I’m sorry to have exposed you to this on an otherwise fine and rather cool Friday night (sleep with the windows open – there’s a nice breeze blowing!). On the other hand, if you’re having a gloomy Friday night, this just may cheer you up. If that doesn’t work… well, go watch the rest of the kooky live-action clips Sony put together, take an aspirin or two and get some sleep. Anyway, Sony’s PlayStation 3 exclusive, Puppeteer is out now in some spots, so if you’re a PS3 owner looking for pure platforming bliss, well… you know what to do, right?

Today’s Motivational Messaging Comes Straight From Dark Horse Comics…

DH_Motivation_Baltimore_CCSo, yeah… um… go do important stuff today – your ass must be hurting from sitting so much, so get up and get going. Or something like that. Yay, comics!

Return of the Fumetti! IDW’s Star Trek Annual 2013 Does Some Major Time Traveling…

Star Trek Annual 2013 (Custom)Wow. I’m ancient enough to remember owning a couple of Star Trek fumetti, so seeing this all-new page created by comics legend John Byrne for his upcoming Trek tale “Strange New Worlds” made me smile a wee bit too much. I hope the younger fan of the series embrace this photo-novel style, as it’s a real art form. Even crazier (in the best possible manner), Byrne created the panels for the series by carefully cobbling together “multiple pieces of film stills and manipulating them to tell the exact story he wanted”, according to the press release. That alone makes this worth checking out if you’re one of those folks who knows the original series inside and out. You’ll be picking out shots and testing your memory, that’s for sure…

IDW’s Star Trek Annual 2013 will run 48 pages and should be in your favorite comic shop the third week of December. I just may need to pick this up and take a time trip down memory lane…

GOG.com Gets A Harlan Ellison Classic (Finally)…

Well, well, well… I haven’t played I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream in about 15 years, but it’s definitely one of those games that sticks in the corners of your brain long after it’s been explored. Based on Harlan Ellison’s 1968 Hugo Award-winning story, this is an adventure game geared for adults that’s pretty unsettling and requires quite a bit of brainpower to make it through some of the trickier bits. Ellison himself appears in the game as the voice of AM, a not so benevolent supercomputer (OK, more like a slightly too malevolent supercomputer) that decided to put the last few remaining humans through the wringer in more ways than one. Best of all, gog.com has it now for a mere $5.99 and yes indeed, you sure look as if you need to be scared half to death this weekend.

Look at the bright side, though… at least you’ll be safe at home when you’re freaked out of your skin…

Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse: ANOTHER WayForward Surprise!

What the what? I had to do a double take when I saw this news, as Shatae has all of a sudden hit the gaming limelight three times this year and these last two titles are going to no doubt get her on the minds of many more gamers out there. Granted, the currently in development Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is ONLY for the Nintendo 3DS (but I’m guessing it will run on the new 2DS), but I and I’m betting nearly every Vita owner wants their own version of this game so they can see what all the fuss is about. I’m gathering Wayforward needs to hear from Vita owners (and PS3/PS4 owners) because this magic gal is the life of the party when it comes to delivering the classic gaming greatness that’s never going to die. Color me happier by the minute – keep it up Wayforward and the top of my head will flip clean off from smiling too broadly!

RoboCop Trailer: “Dead or Alive, You’re Coming With Me…” to the Multiplex!

(thanks, CBMTrailers!)

OK, I’m (almost) sold. Granted, you can’t beat the original for what it brought to audiences back in the day (an unexpected hit, plenty of quotable lines, practical effects work galore and a story that solid, mixing drama, humor and extreme violence very well indeed), but this remake isn’t looking bad at all from this trailer. I have to say that this NOT being rated R is a bit annoying (the original film’s first cut kicked the censors in the groin and got an X rating until a few choice cuts were made. It took eleven attempts in total to get that R rating!), but I’m betting the studio thinks a PG-13 film will put more asses into seats because the tweens can walk up and buy tickets. Bleh.

Anyway, on one hand I can’t see this tanking unless there’s a big snowstorm in February that keeps people away and the film gets really awful reviews from some older cranky critics who do nothing but revere certain films and have a ZERO tolerance for anyone (no matter how skilled) touching what they grew up watching too many times. Then again… that February 7, 2014 release date scares me a bit. That and the assorted set woes I’ve occasionally read about. Well, as long as it’s better than Total Recall and Dredd and Hollywood doesn’t decide to copy Robocop 2 to even more of a T if this film does well, maybe it’ll be fine. Let’s see now… February, la, la, la… that means the Blu-Ray/DVD is out around May… Hmmmm, I think it’ll make a nice birthday present for me next year…

Steal This Idea! Any Creative Breaking Bad Fans With Decent Songwriting Skills?

BB_VOK, I’m a genius (in my mind), but even I need some help every so often. My latest bright idea: take the awesome song Two Reelers from Frank Black’s excellent Teenager of the Year album and rework it into a Breaking Bad homage and possibly a video using clips from all the show’s seasons. “How do I think these things up?” you ask? Well, as usual, it’s random. This silly idea popped into my head while listening to that tune today when the line

And Mr. White heard bad report
And so it ends the two reeler short
Cause you cannot do what you can’t

rolled into my ears and I started laughing because the show has PLENTY of scenes where Walt gets bad news about something or IS bad news for someone and hears about it from someone else.

Anyway, in a perfect world, Weird Al would be on the case in a heartbeat and a half, but I don’t ave his number handy and even if I did, he’d probably think I was on meth when I thought this one up. Sooooo, I’ll just put this idea out here and let you guys pick up the slack and net some genius points of your own with those mad rewriting skills. You’ll either gain immortality on the web or a couple of lawsuits or both for your efforts most likely, so get crackin’, people! I expect results. Or as the late Gus Fring would say “Now get back to work!”
