New Terminator Genisys Trailer: Blasts From The Past And Future Get The Internet Somewhat Nuts

What’s been interesting about these Terminator Genisys trailers is how the internet whiners has reacted to the reboot without realizing that the new film is playing them like violins. The time-bending going on here and all the plot twists see as spoilers might not even be the big things the movie is bringing to the table. Me, I like the idea of taking the first two films and remixing them so Sarah Connor knows what’s coming and prepares for it before finding out things aren’t as she planned for.

I’m really curious to find out what type of Terminator John has turned out to be as well as seeing if the process can be reversed (remember, we’re dealing with time travel and its many possible ripples) by the time those end credits roll. That and hell, it’ll be fun hearing whatever goofball quips Arnold comes up with as the film progresses. It looks as if Emilia Clarke has got some of his better quotes from the first two films down pat. Eh, we’ll see (as usual). I don’t expect him to survive this flick either, but I have the feeling that even if he does… he’ll be BACK. Well, at least for one more go-around.

Terminator: Genisys – Yeah, He’s BACK (Again)…

Terminator Genisys Banner

(Thanks, Arnold!)

terminator_genisys_teaser_posterWell, I guess it’s as good a time as ever to note that when I first heard Arnold was doing another Terminator flick, I think I broke something laughing. Of course, we’re at the point in visual effects tech that the best and brightest can make anything or anyone real look like a CG effect and here’s living proof of that coming to a theater near you next year. Actually, the plot makes it sound like a reboot that’s burning the candle at both ends with the return of Kyle Reese, Sarah Conner and a few other elements from James Cameron’s original two flicks. Of course, the film should benefit from Alan Taylor‘s direction, as his Game of Thrones work is pretty strong.

Granted, other than more plastics and metals there’s not much of a difference between the gritty filth of Westeros and the gritty radioactive filth of the future setting here (and the gritty filthy present the characters will end up in). But if the film can capture all that made the first two Terminator movies so special, this one may do well outside the blockbuster-fed crowds that will rush out to see it when it finally opens next July.

On the other hand, if this flick slips up in any way, shape or form in the plot or tosses in too much for the modern “Wait, what just happened?” crowd who need stuff constantly explained to them, it may tank out after a month because word of mouth hit it harder than a T-1000 slapping Arnold with a sledgehammer. Balance is the key to success, I’m betting. And I’m also betting the home video version will pack in scenes that get left on the cutting room floor because that’s the trend these days. Anyway, that’s two formerly successful franchises making a comeback in 2015, so between this reboot/remake with a twist and Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, it’s the 1980’s all over again.

And yeah – that’s both a good thing and a not so good thing…

Star Trek: Into Darkness “Vendetta” Trailer: 1 of 8 Is Better Than 7 of 9 (At Least Today)…

Yikes. I decide to dive into some games this week and *BOOM!* all sorts of trailers and stuff get dumped on the Internet! Hell, Paramount alone posted something like seven or eight new trailers for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming Trek sequel (yikes!), but I won’t go and post them all. At least not today. Here’s one for now and I’ll get the rest up tomorrow at some point when I’m up for air. Well, I am a few posts behind in my new schedule, so I could cheat and do eight more Trek posts… but that would be really cheesy, so I won’t. Besides, I’ve got better ways of keeping your attention… hmm… this eyelash batting stuff is HARD. It looks like I’m having a seizure when I look in the mirror…

Oh, alright – here’s another teaser for you since my eyeballs are tired from all that flapping…

Star Trek: Into Darkness Trailers: Good Things Usually Come in Threes, Therefore…

You’re welcome. I’m actually hoping to heck that this film is closer to two hours or so than shorter, as it seems pack a ton of story in between all that stuff falling apart and exploding (and people leaping off high places). Yeah, I think a lot of movies are too short or over-edited so more screenings can be run during an average day and those of us who like what we see have to end up buying a DVD or Blu-Ray to see what we paid for earlier.

Granted, that’s not a big crime by any means… unless you don’t like buying or renting movies and keep hoping that the trend of “Unrated”, “Uncut” and “Director’s Cut” films all vanish in the same time loop or something. Of course, given that there have been some great films that didn’t get additional footage tacked in just to sell a few million more copies, but hell, not every director can be a Kubrick, right? Wait, I’m mentioning J.J. Abrams and Stanley Kubrick in the same breath? Well, it’s not too far of a swing for genre fans, so I’m not worried one bit…

Anyway, Star Trek: Into Darkness hits a theater near you on May 17, 2013.

Star Trek: Into Darkness Clips: A Lesson In Undressin’…

Hmmm… you know, Paramount… there’s such a thing as TOO much exposure when it comes to some reveals. Now, I love a good tease once in a while, but I say take a lesson from the late, great Sally Rand and not show it all off all at once. Some things are worth waiting for, so a little anticipation goes a longer way than just whipping everything off all at once. Of course, I’m also wanting to see more, so your little ploy has worked out quite well…

That said, it IS a J.J. Abrams flick, so the template is there and easy to pinpoint. That bodes well for the movie, but also makes it a wee bit too predictable to some longtime fans or those who can catch the telegraphing of plot points a few star systems away as the film hits its thematic notes in their proper order. Granted, THAT part is up to the editing team as well as the director’s skills… but I’m not too worried about either.

On the other hand… if Into Darkness gets too formulaic, it means there’s room for improvement and a writing team (or hell, ONE writer) who can deliver the goods fans of the different Trek franchises can approve of. It’s hard to please so many generations of people who grew up watching or have caught the Star Trek bug over time, but the minute that magic moment happens, the person behind that particular wheel will become an intergalactic treasure of sorts…

Star Trek: Into Darkness Trailer 2: Jumping Off Tall Stuff Is The New Black (Part 2)…

Speak of the devil, here’s another trailer for J.J. Abrams’ sequel, which is still making some old-school Trekkies livid for basically having more action in two minutes than half a season of the original series. I say as long as the plot is solid and the characters well-written and acted, i don’t mind at all. I’m still cracking up at all the shots of people jumping off high places, as it seems to be a hallmark of the director’s style. The funniest thing about these shots is you KNOW everyone jumping in them isn’t going to end up like Wile E. Coyote a the bottom of a ravine at all… it’s just how and where they land that’s going to keep the sequence going. Hmmm… someone needs to make a YouTube video of EVERY Abrams jump-off shot and landing and post it so I can fall out of my Captain’s chair in hysterics. Get on it and get back to me – that’s your homework assignment for the week…

Star Trek: Into Darkness International Trailer #2: Going Around The World With The Enterprise

And the hits just keep on coming in this latest international trailer for Star Trek: Into Darkness. In fact, there are a bunch of these up on the official Star Trek web site that are all slightly different for each territory. I’ve always found that a tad strange, but that’s why I’m not a PR person, I guess. Anyway, the film certainly looks like it’ll be pretty relentless and gloomy where it needs to be, but I’m holding off any ACTUAL judgments until my butt is parked in a comfy movie seat. Some of the more Horta-headed fans of the Trekkie and Trekker varieties want the slower-paced style back from the original series, TNG and the other shows, but given that trailers for blockbusters condense events and are SUPPOSED to be thrilling, I’m betting the film does do some of what’s expected foe those die-hards when all is said and done. As usual, folks… we shall see…
