Another weekend of life on earth means another awesome gog.com sale, so here you go: Another all-Activision deal with a nice lot of classics up for grabs at dirt cheap prices. Of course, you’ll need a BIG clock with a lot of time on it (just make your own and stick by the 100 hours in a day deal you’ve cooked up in your head) and a new career in doing nothing but going through the library of stuff you’ve bought if you buy the whole 31 game package. Well, you don’t HAVE to grab the entire bundle, as it’s quite varied and yes, you might not like every game in the set. But I bet you’ll definitely see a few you just HAVE to try out and that’s what it’s all about, right?

It’s been a hell of a good week for fans of classic PC games who happen to have gog.com accounts. Between UnEpic, Wizardry 6, 7 and 8 and the newly announced Xbox One making some people never want to go near a Microsoft console again (heh – little joke there), the team at gog has done it up right (again). Of course, all you want to hear about is what’s on sale this weekend, so… BOOM! here you go. Nothing but shoot-tastic firt-person classics (and not so classics) this weekend, so if you’re into wild action, over the top humor and packing too much heat as you take down alien bastards who stole your ride, crazed undead, assorted futuristic scum and lots of Nazi soldiers, well… it’s your move… but only for the weekend folks, so get busy – your trigger finger needs something to do.

VG 101: Wizardry 6, 7 & 8 Hit GOG.com – Your “Homework” for the Year Is Here!

In the words of the great philosophers… FINALLY! One of the most requested classic PC games on gog.com has been the Wizardry series and today, the company has dropped some big news by releasing digital versions of the final three chapters at a great price point. I’m gathering the first five parts (which don’t need to be played to enjoy these three games) will be coming soon, but for now, a few hundred hours of gameplay should tide you over for a while (and you automatically pass the class here if you finish these before the end of the year). Feel free to dance to that disco music in the video above – I know I was when I got this news. OK, before you keel over from those flashing lights and colors above, here’s some Wizardry 8 gameplay (sans disco effects):

GOG.com Brings You Way TOO Many Ubisoft Games on Sale…

Holy cats… 41 classic to recent games from the mega-publisher are up for grabs at 50% off in this week’s sale, so where to begin? I say go for the Might & Magic or Heroes of Might & Magic bundles (Well, MM IX is kind of a dog that was rushed to market and that fan-patch doesn’t fix every issue), Beyond Good and Evil is a MUST as is Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and of course, the Rayman series. FPS and third-person shooter fans will groove on the classic Far Cry, Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six/Ghost Recon games, but trust me, there’s something for everyone and all at great prices.

Of course, they’re all DRM-free (as always) and yes, the goats above want you to buy ALL of them and save a cool $187, but goats will say anything if you listen long enough. Anyway, you’ve got three days, folks – poke around, find something awesome and add it to your library, I say…

VGA 101: Anvil of Dawn Gets GOG’ed (FINALLY!)

Dreamforge’s classic 1995 first-person dungeon crawler was one of my favorite games back in the day and I still have my original CD and manual in the library. It’s been around as “abandonware” for a few years, but that and other versions were (and are) incomplete, missing the movies and/or fully voiced dialog, making for half the game it should have been. Well, the fine folks at GOG.com have gotten this one up and running (it turns out Ubisoft has the rights, which means we could HOPEFULLY see a remake down the road) and available for the low price of $5.99 (whee!), which makes me a happy camper indeed. Granted, I finally got my CD up and running last week, so I won’t be buying this right away. But it’s REALLY great to know it’s exactly where I need to find it, now whole again and able to be enjoyed by a new generation of gamers (who I surely HOPE will appreciate it for how important it was to the genre) who won’t compare it to games inspired by it (backwards!) or think it’s a new “retro” styled game (oh, the irony there!)…

Well, here you go: gog.com is having another cool weekend sale and this time, it’s all about adventure games past and present. From the fantastic classic The Longest Journey and it’s great sequel Dreamfall, to the chilling slow burner Scratches: The Director’s Cut or the brilliant survival game Miasmata to flawless gems such as Resonance, Botanicula and Machinarium: Collector’s Edition, there’s something for anyone looking to curl up with a warm PC or laptop. Prices range from $3.99 to $5.99 for each game, or you can snap up all twelve for $53.88 (which is a bargain considering the dozens of hours of gameplay here).

No frantic button bashing or much skill (other than reading and using a mouse to point and click or keyboard to move a character around) is needed and there’s sure to be something that catches your fancy at a nice enough price. OK, you know what to do next, so I’ll let you get to it…

GOG.com’s 60% Off EA Games Sale: Yeah, You NEED These Classics…

gogEAsale Well, well, well… you look like you need something to do this weekend since I hear you’re planning on staying inside. Thankfully, gog.com is on the case (and how!) with their latest weekend sale. This time, it’s a ton of Electronic Arts classics from the 90’s and early 2000’s, all 60% off. Insane, this is, folks. First of all, getting ONE of these classics or classic collections for a measly $2.39 is completely ridiculous, but if you want to buy all 28 games on that list, you’ll ONLY pay about ten bucks more than it cost to buy ONE of these when they were initially released. Whaaaaat? $68.52 for about a year or more’s worth of gaming is jaw-dropping, ladies and gents. I actually have some of these on disc in the library (and yeah, I paid more back in the day), so I can safely say you’ll be pleased with whatever you buy (unless you hated Ultima IX the first time you played it – it’s still the same flawed epic it was back then). OK, let me shut up and let you get to poring over that long list of titles. The sale ends on May 7, so get something for yourself or someone else and you’ll both be pretty darn happy…

GOG.com Weekend Sale: Some Great Odds ‘N Ends of the “Buy Me!” Variety…

This weekend’s gog.com sale is a really cool one that features some classics from back in the day up to recent hits I all highly recommend and yes, they’re all at great prices. Psychonauts for five bucks? GET IT! You’ll fire your psychologist after a weekend with this game (seriously). Of course, FAHRENHEIT will make you hire that shrink right back. Tiny & Big: Grandpa’s Leftovers will get you wishing you were paying more attention in physics class while you groove on the awesome visuals and indie tunes from your screen and speakers, while Enclave will get you hacking and slashing with care, as playing it mindlessly will drive you back to a new shrink (or a second one).

Alien Shooter 2: Reloaded is simple and brilliant, bloodily effective at delivering the alien-blasting goods and the double-retro rainbow of Retro City Rampage and Hotline Miami are actually two VERY opposite poles of the same retro planet. One is a hilariously funny send-up of classic NES games and 80’s/90’s pop culture, while the other is a hilariously brutal and gory send up DEFINITELY not for the kiddies. Both are awesome. There are more games to check out, but stop reading this and go see for yourself. Less time reading, MORE time playing is a good motto today. That sale actually ends on Tuesday, April 30, so take an extra day off work if you need to. It’s OK… just tell the boss I said you could…

Oops. Once again, I got so stupidly busy burying myself in some new games here that I almost forgot about some of the old (and not so old) ones I needed to let you know about! Anyway, go boogie on over to gog.com and check out their Telltale Crazy Sale. You’ve got two days left to grab this bundle or bits of it for some HUGE savings. if you’re a fan of Telltale Games’ more recent adventure titles like the Walking Dead, all of these come recommended because they’re also well-crafted games but trade in the rib-ripping gore and cussin’ for some hilarious rib-tickling comedy and chuckles. Six complete game series for under $27 is a total STEAL, so get yours and get smiling, I say. also check out that video above for some other fine suggestions. I’m Not Worried About Divinity: Original Sin One Bit…

Seriously. I know Larian Studios has got this all sewn up nice and tight, so I haven’t even bothered to run any of their Kickstarter updates here after posting a little while back about Original Sin going the crowdfunding route. It’s pretty much a no-brainer that a new game is going to be great when it’s the same studio and staff that’s been with the series from the beginning toiling away like mad wizards. I’m just hoping that this gets a console version at some point, as I hate having to keep upgrading a PC like it’s a can that needs a new engine every time one of these epics roll out. More people playing their games is always a better thing at the end of the day, I say…
