Random Art: “Legs…”

legs

Yup, another (sort of unfinished) MS Paint piece done while freezing my rear end off and waiting for this stupid wet and chilly weather to clear up. Well, if anything, lousy weather seems to be good for art practice. I may do another later, but only after I get to posting a few previews and reviews I’ve been dinking away on since last week. OK, back to actual harder work!

Random Art: Waiting…

Waiting2...As in I was waiting for it to stop raining so hard yesterday so I could hoof it down to the library, but it didn’t, which meant I ended up killing some time by starting a few reviews and doing this MS Paint piece. It took a while because I had no idea what I wanted to do when I began and between going back and forth to writing and taking a break or three, I finally stopped just so I’d be more productive on the writing and and less on the art end. Anyway, here you go.

Today’s weather is really awful here as well, but I’m working on finishing up the stuff I started last night to post later this evening or tomorrow. This gloomy rain and unusual chill for late May REALLY stinks… but I’m glad I’m not one of those automatic holiday folks who drives to the beach for Memorial Day every year like clockwork, damn every single weather report suggesting a stay close to (or hell, AT) home…

Gallery: Lost Planet 3

Campaign_006_bmp_jpgcopy It may be spring outside, but looking at these Lost Planet 3 screens makes me feel as if I’ve got my face stuck in the freezer and there’s no ice cream left – just a mean-looking alien with glowy bits and very sharp claws an teeth staring back (eek). Veteran developer Spark Unlimited is doing its best work to date, using the Unreal engine and some great motion captured actors to create a solidly stylized vision of the cold, bleak ball of ice covered rock that is E.D.N. III.

LostPlanet3_BrokenGlassWorking class hero Jim Payton isn’t the usual lantern-jawed hero with a hefty arsenal, bulletproof shorts and an ego as big as the planet he’s on at all. He’s just a regular guy who’s trying hard to make a living in a frozen hellhole with Akrid and perhaps a few pesky space pirates ruing his workday. I’ve been hooked in since I played a demo last year and with the first two multiplayer modes finally being revealed last week, it looks as if all the pieces are falling into place for a sleeper hit that will hopefully catch the skeptics by surprise.

Capcom’s Lost Planet 3 hits PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 27, 2013. Poke around below the jump for some more nice screens and artwork.

Oh, and put a hat and gloves on, dears – it’s COLD out there in space…

Metal Gear Rising Mural Project: Games As Art (And Lesson of the Day)…

It’s always really cool to see and type of video game art go up in public as advertising and a way to get a few artists noticed by folks who’ve never heard of them. Here’s Yoji Shinkawa’s incredible line art brought to life by artist Jim Vision (EndoftheLine) in this slick time-lapse video. I’m sure there’s a Metal Gear fan out there buying up cheap airline tickets and trying to pack a hammer and chisel in that carry-on bag. Of course, the SMART thing to do is bring an empty bag, BUY the appropriate tools in each city, crate up and ship your prize back (via seamail) before you leave (which will be a few weeks to years, as you’re going directly to jail for taking down the side of a building just to get that piece of amazing art for your collection)…

Random Art Time: Live & Learn…

live and learn

Meh – I guess the best thing about having a crap internet connection is you find things to do while waiting for things to iron themselves out. This dinking around with primitive programs sure beats playing solitaire, Ive heard. And so, whee! One more quickie MS paint sketch for the deviantArt page, I suppose. Enjoy! Should I mention that I sometimes sell actual art work (well, small tree sketches) over at fiverr.com (search for AlwaysTreeTime) or is that too much intentional shilling in an overtly capitalist manner? Hey, at least I’m not sticking a PayPal button on the site or posting creative shoe fetish pics to rake in some extra dough. Granted, my feet could more than likely stop a truck, but now how you’d think. More art later… maybe (well, hopefully done when I’m not waiting around for an hour or two)…
