TIny Troopers To Get 100% More DLC Zombies This Week

Nice – Hot on the heels of the recent Steam patch that added some nice tweaks to the gameplay and control layout, Iceberg Interactive and Kukouri Mobile Entertainment are adding zombies to the PC/Mac version via a DLC update to be released for both retail and download versions.

Per the press release, Tiny Troopers new Zombie mode features will include:
• Face endless waves of brain-munching zombies, including undead chickens!
• Utilize air dropped crates of special weapons to lay devastation on the zombie hordzs!
• Use all your favorite Special Forces troopers to take down the undead.
• Survive as long as you can against unending waves of normal and special zombies!

Yep, “hordz” is Iceberg’s spelling not mine – Hey, it made me laugh, so I left it as is. Anyway, I’ll post an update when this new update goes live. Hey Kukouri! How about a PS Vita version of this game? It’s pretty cool as it is, but on that Vita widescreen, it would be even better, I say…

EA’s Going To Surprise A Few Folks (Me Included)…

Most of the games I saw and played yesterday are under embargo for a few days or up to next month, so I can’t spill all the beans yet, but let’s just say some of you naysayers are going to be eating a load of crow when it comes to certain titles in their lineup. I’ll start rolling out previews for each title as their embargoes lift, but while you’re waiting, I’ll keep you posted on stuff I can write about over the next few days on the mobile and console front. OK, I’m off to bed for two hours, as I have a LOT to do and need to hop up and get an earlier start than usual…

He-Man: Chillingo and GlitchSoft’s iOS Platformer Has The Power!

Say what you will about tablet and device games (or the devices themselves as gaming platforms), but once in a while you get to see something that’s just plain flat-out awesome enough to make you want to change your mind completely.  For me, that would be EA and Chillingo’s spectacular He-Man: The Most Powerful Game in the Universe, a classic side scrolling action game from GlitchSoft that’s going to shock many with how good it is. Despite being developed in a relatively brief time (it was started a few months ago), the dev team has managed to make a game that looks fantastic (you really have to see it in motion in person to appreciate this) and has a great sense of humor about itself while being a blast of nostalgia older games can enjoy with their kids as they introduce the character and his friends to a new generation of gamers…

Review: Tiny Troopers (PC/Mac)

Platform: PC/Mac

Developer: Kukouri Mobile Entertainment

Publisher: Iceberg Interactive

# of Players: 1

ESRB Rating: T (Teen)

Official Site

Score: A- (90%)

Tiny Troopers is a really fun blend of action and light strategic elements reminiscent of the classic PC game Cannon Fodder with a tiny bit of Taito’s ancient arcade game, Front Line for good measure. Ported from the mobile version by developer Kukouri Mobile Entertainment, TT is a great little budget game that packs in 30 increasingly challenging missions, a nice selection of unlockable gear and upgrades and even a small set of Achievements for gamers who feel the urge to milk every penny of the ten dollars the game costs. Some may gripe about the lack of an actual story, no online play, some occasionally wonky pathfinding and a handful of other things. But overall, you’re absolutely getting your money’s worth here in a game with a decent amount of mission and map variety.

Hey, Where’d My Wednesday Go? Go Watch A Trailer While I Figure That Out…

Oops. I got so buried in a couple of games that arrived yesterday that I forgot to add a post! Eh, it happens. I’ll be back with some reviews I started for some other games as well as some other posts later today. Now, I’m headed to sleep to rest my weary eyeballs. In the meantime, here’s a trailer for Scribblenauts Remix to ogle, now that it’s coming to iOS after all this time… good night!

Bastion Finally Hits The iPad (But Apple Still Isn’t Getting A Dime From Me)…

OK, I don’t have an iPad and have no interest in buying or owning one, thank you much (where do I put the games again and where’s my controller?). But for those millions of you out there who can’t let go of that trendy tactile tablet thingamajig, you need to get Bastion now that it’s finally hit the App Store. It’s a great game that worked perfectly on the PC, so Supergiant Games is expanding their multiple award-winning game with some touchy-feely controls and other enhancements that make an already superb RPG even better.  Android device owners, you’re still going to be waiting around for a bit if you haven’t played this gem yet… but hey, if you have a PC or laptop, just buy the darn game for your actual computer, I say…

WIN FREE STUFF! Two Tiny Troopers Steam Codes Up For Grabs!

UPDATE: CONTEST CLOSED!  WINNERS PICKED!  CODES SENT!  WHEE!
Hey! You look like you could use a game break, so here’s a quick giveaway for two lucky readers. Tiny Troopers for PC is a fun action/real-time strategy hybrid from Kukouri Mobile Entertainment and Iceberg Interactive that’s been getting some pretty solid reviews for the iOS and Android versions.

Now, lucky PC and Mac gamers can give this enhanced version of the game a shot through Valve’s always rockin’ Steam download service, where the game is normally $9.99, but is on sale until September 7, 2012 through the Steam store for 20% off. That, by the way, is what they call a STEAL in this day and age.

Here’s a peek at the game (and of course, gameplay) for you:

Looks pretty cool, huh?  I say go make yourself and the developer happy and buy this game.  Or, you could luck out and be one of two winners here simply by being the first two folks to post a note below. Don’t get too giddy now and put your email address in that note, now – I know how to track you down without it.  Anyway, RULES: you DO need a Steam account to enter, the game is PC and Mac compatible and there’s only ONE code per winner, so don’t get grabby, now!  Winners will be emailed their codes, so yes, having an actual email address will help as well. Also, even if you don’t win, the game is a good enough deal at either the full or reduced price to make a great purchase for yourself or someone else.

Anyway, if you’ve read this far and haven’t replied, you might not be a winner, so get cracking!

The Woz vs. The Cloud: Oh, He’s Nailed It Just About Perfectly…

When you get the co-founder of Apple telling you the cloud sort of stinks as a reliable storage medium, you know it’s kind of important. Of course, the man works at a cloud computing service, so perhaps he’s just doing some PR for that company and scaring up some business in the process.

Anyway, I know the carefree digital hipster rubes out there who think ease of use trumps personal security are pooh-poohing his words away as they stack more files away magically to retrieve them at some later date, but let’s play a game for a minute. Can you imagine the sheer panic when (not if, kids, WHEN) there’s another Dropbox hack or worse, some natural disaster that takes out some servers in an undisclosed location, making retrieving those files next to (or completely) impossible? I’ll be sitting back with my popcorn watching people freak out because no one thought that their precious data would go up in digital smoke.

Of course, if the hit is bad enough (say, a foreign cyber-hack done right that screws us royally), I’ll be barricading myself inside with bottled water snacks  and a wall of games from the collection as my last defense against the undead hordes who can’t get their devices to do anything at all.

“Braaaaaaiiiiins…”

Martin Scorcese Misses An Opportunity For More Laughs With Siri…

As soon as I saw this latest iPhone ad I thought what a whole lot of others who know the director’s work did. When he asks the taxi driver to take another route, it would have been PERFECT to see Robert De Niro as the cabbie. Granted, I’m betting the actor didn’t want to step into Travis Bickle’s shoes again after so long, but still – it would have made the ad even more priceless.

And no, that doesn’t mean I want an iPhone now. Nice try though, Apple.

Zombeer? Really? OK, Zombies in Games Are Officially Played Out.

Yeesh, now I’ve seen everything. Still, you KNEW this was coming, right? That said, The ride is officially shut for the winter, kids. Show’s over, monkey’s dead, and he ain’t gettin’ up anytime soon. Go on home, now… git!  Resident Evil kicked off the zombies thing in games for many and after over 15 years of assorted games featuring the undead in all sorts of genres from nearly every major and plenty of smaller publishers, here we are at Zombeer: Zombies & Beer. Which means (to me, at least) this is the end of the line for anything original and undead-related in gaming. Of course, I could be dead (or undead) wrong, but that title makes my stomach churn for some reason (and not in a good way). All I’m saying is this had better be the best horror comedy first person shooter ever made AND it better be a bit scary too. That awful pun-wreck of a title nearly made me want to poke my eye out with a cold spoon. Anyway, I have a the fingers on one hand crossed that this one doesn’t stink as much as the title and concept do. Eh, maybe I’m in a crappy mood today or something, as stuff like this usually makes me crack up…
