Heh. That’s a little in-joke there for folks who saw last week’s episode… Anyway, I’m still not into whole “second screen” craze that tablet users have glommed onto as if they’ve suddenly gotten a third or fourth eyeball sprouting from their head and an extra arm (and hand!) that can keep them busy as the onscreen action from the show spools out. That’s nothing but distracting for someone like me who prefers paying attention to the show proper while saving the minutiae for later consumption. It reminds me of going to the movies and sitting next to someone who’s telling their seatmate the plot and pointing things out because that person is too slow to follow or otherwise disinterested. Granted, if one has a child, friend or relative that NEEDS that sort of attention, it’s an ENTIRELY different story. As it is, all this extra work during the show for me makes it less enjoyable because it’s a division of brain labor on my part. Of course, if YOU enjoy that experience, go, you!

Star Trek: The Video Game: Making of (4): That’s A REALLY Big Canon You’ve Got There…
Hey, now… by law I’m allowed one absolutely horrific pun on a Sunday… and I don’t think that title counts, either. Anyway, developer Digital Extremes is doing it up right here, as this game actually takes place between the last Star Trek film and the upcoming sequel, Star Trek: Into Darkness. This more than makes perfect sense, as too many licensed games try to expand their stories after a film or worse, try to add elements into a film that don’t quite work out continuity-wise. As for how it all plays, let’s see what happens in a few days when the game hits stores on April 23, 2013. As long as the AI in solo play is solid, this one should be one Trek fans should be snapping up as soon as it teleports into stores.
GRID 2 Customization: My Fairlady (And Yours, Too!)
The brilliant car customization in Codemasters’ upcoming racer GRID 2 is one more really awesome feature that will get and keep this racer on many play lists for a while. I didn’t get to tinker with it during my two hands-on sessions, but that’s probably a darn good thing. I tend to take ages to trick out a ride and usually end up with something that’s understated yet a monster on the road. Of course, with the amount of online competition this will no doubt have way too many great racers breaking records every few minutes or less, but I’m going to hit solo mode and break in every car I can on as many tracks in the game as possible. May 28, 2013 will be one of those “flu” days for some folks, I’m betting…
Iron Man 3 World Tour: The Cast Gets Around, The Crowds Go Wild…
Well, these big press and fan-packed junkets are always weird and often dull as hell for the casts of these blockbusters, but you have to give Robert Downey Jr. a few metric tons of credit for doing his own awesomely quirky thing to shake stuff up. Well, reaction to the film is definitely great overseas, so that enthusiasm will no doubt carry on as the film arrives at a mega-multiplex near you on May 3. Hey, you still have time to finish that Coke can Iron Man outfit you’re working on (yeah, I know you didn’t want me to say anything, but…), so get to it! Just leave the windows open when you’re spray painting, as huffing in those fumes will do you in faster than the Mandarin with his can opener ring…
Four Minutes of Next Week’s Defiance Episode: Hey, Time Travel WORKS!
Well, not in this clip from the upcoming episode, “Down In The Ground Where The Dead Men Go” mind you, but in the fact that you’re able to (*gasp!*) actually SEE into the future here and catch the first four minutes of the show before it airs ( that footage is below the jump – we’re building suspense here!) PLUS two teasers for the show. Hey, now you can roll home four minutes late and not feel as if you missed anything!
Er, of course, given that the show gets repeated right afterward (and at least twice), you just might get called really goofy by your friends and relatives for pretending that time travel DOES exist. Oh well… dreaming is fine, but reality works much better when you’re in the right groove… “OK, get to the good stuff!”, right? Alright, alright… Continue reading
Iron Man 3 Featurette 2: Tony Stark Certainly Doesn’t Buy His Suits At Men’s Wearhouse…
Another week, another Iron Man 3 making-of feature bound for the home video release (mark my words). It’s fun seeing Marvel set up their universe through these recent flicks that do an interesting job at condensing that huge history from their comics into two-hour (or less) chunks easily digested by the masses. Granted, for some reason Spider-Man, Ghost Rider and some other heroes haven’t yet gotten that “perfect” reworking as film properties (at least in my opinion), but it’ll be interesting to see how the characters from other films cross over into the more popular ones over time…
Star Trek: The Video Game – Making of (3): Voice Acting Is Not About Good Looks…
OK, OK, so Chris Pine isn’t exactly Bummy McBumenstein with that 45 o’clock shadow he’s got stuck to his face, but this video shows that you can completely be in character and NOT need to dress the part nor call in the makeup team. The upcoming game is getting star power with what looking like quality work from some core cast members as well as music from the film. Oddly enough, this wasn’t show at Namco Bandai’s recent press event, but I’m not worried at all, as the bulk of games shown (save for some indie downlables and the fun surprise that was Young Justice Legacy) there were from Japanese developers. In any event, Star Trek hits stores on April 23, 2013 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. I’ll be diving in solo, as I’m a lonely guy with no friends (waah!), but I guess I can take a trip to a friend’s to see how the co-op plays…
In Case You’re Not Watching Game of Thrones, HBO Wants To Make You Do So (NOW)…
Hey you. Yeah, YOU. I know you’re sick and tired of rolling up to the water cooler or coffee machine on a Monday and hearing enough Game of Thrones chatter to make you want to beat the next person you hear rolling a strange name off their tongue with that coffee mug in your hand, but don’t do it. Just give in and either make a new friend with one of those co-workers so you can hang at their place for the next episode or shell out for HBO if it’s part of your cable package you didn’t upgrade. You look like you could use a bit more drama in your life and the good thing is, you don’t have to dress up for it. Unless you REALLY want to. I know that tavern wench outfit in the closet you’ve not worn since that Renaissance fair in 1998 still fits – you’ve been taking care of yourself (and that’s a good thing)…
Defiance: Brave New World With Some Familiar Themes (Take Two!)
OOPS. I actually accidentally “wallpapered” this post (as in posted OVER it!) by accident when I got booted offline with a couple of posts in progress open in separate windows, then mixed up when restoring and fixing things. So, here we go again – but completely rewritten, as nothing got saved and I HATE redoing articles because I can’t recapture the same tone – yaaaah!)
SO, Defiance seems to have survived not only its first episode with the biggest audience ever for syfy, it also survived an assault by a rather large enemy force thanks to a bit of Deus ex machina that was for me, a rather humorous homage to the first Star Wars movie. That or it was some fine lazy writing by the team that needed to wrap things up and had to fall back on their big action scene to satisfy the fans who wanted their big battle. Still, it was a fine pilot overall, even with way too many characters to keep track of. This of course, will settle out as more episodes air and we get to know who’s who and where their alliances lie. OK, OK, fo those of you who didn’t get it, I’ll get into the Star Wars moment(s) below the jump… Continue reading
Game of Thrones Season 3 Episode 3 Inside/Recap: Shake A Hand (If You Can)…
Oh, I had a ton of puns about last nights episode “handy” (oops!), but I decided to not use them at all out of respect. Well, that and I didn’t want hate mail from fans of a certain character who shouldn’t get fan mail at all because he plays a right bastard. Well, a LEFT bastard now after that last episode. OK, I couldn’t resist. Well, next week’s episode WOULD be hi-larious if it didn’t follow up and instead, left us hanging (unlike that hand) for another week while it focused on other events in Winterfell. THAT would rile up the closure freaks (and cauterize freaks, too!) significantly, especially the ones who don’t yet grasp the concept of suspense and how a show with SO many characters and stories to tell can make some things last a bit longer. Then again, given how that first season ended up, I’m betting we’re gotten up to speed about a few conditions, as things were looking grim for another character when that bait & switch move was pulled…
