Darkstalkers Resurrection Launch Trailer: I Bet Capcom’s Conducting A Little Fighting Experiment…

 

As in “put up or shut up, Darkstalkers fans!” Yeah, you’ve been whining and wanting for years to see these characters again, but Capcom is smarter than you are. So, instead of an expensive to produce *NEW* game starring these guys and gals, they HD-gussied up the old ones for PSN and XBLA users to download at a great price and are probably going to be counting those purchases and review scores verrrry carefully. Sure, I’d LOVE a new game in the vein of the Street Fighter IV reboot (and I think we’ll see one at some point). But I’m betting this reissue is an interest gauge disguised as an impulse purchase, so those “fans” still complaining now about the game or Capcom in general who don’t buy this will be shooting themselves in the foot if they don’t shell out the shekels.

No big prizes for knowing this stuff already, folks… BUT if you hadn’t a clue before, now you know AND there’s the whole side benefit of looking and sounding REALLY cool to your geek buddies who think you need to play more games. Or something like that. Video game history is pretty awesome at the end of the day no matter how you look at it, I say. Capcom Arcade Cabinet is out NOW for the PS3 (via PSN) and Xbox 360 (via XBLA). It’s possibly coming to other platforms, but you didn’t hear it here. Yet.

Well, that darned “ringer” Pac-Man machine with the funky joystick was ONE problem and bad enough for an old gaming salt like me to come up against, grrrr. But I’ll have to kick myself harder for being SO supremely lame at vib-ribbon when I have it here and used to play it quite a lot. Granted, it HAS been a few years since I picked up that PSOne import, but still… I think someone messed with the controller, as the card next to the exhibit was off a bit. Well, the good thing was everyone who played it had problems as well. I at least managed to make it to the end of the second area on one attempt… and of course, I wasn’t filming or being films when it happened… bleh.

 

WB Games Brings Midway Arcade Origins To PS3 & 360 (On A DISC!)

Well, alright! Folks like me who prefer physical product (hey, I hug my games every day!) can now add a really sweet mix of games to our collections without losing much shelf space. WB Games and Backbone Entertainment have released Midway Arcade Origins for the PS3 and Xbox 360 as noted above in the header, on an actual game DISC. Yeah, that’s right. You can boogie on down to your favorite game emporium, whip out that wallet (you know, the one embroidered with BAD MOTHERF*CKER on it), whip out some cash money and tip on out with that new set of oldies in an actual plastic bag. Yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!  Anyway, no matter which system you own (er, well, if it’s one of the two mentioned, that is, er hey, WHY isn’t this on the Wii U as a launch title OR on the Vita for the holidays?), get this collection, grab some friends and prepare to get schooled by some really awesome arcade hits, I say!

Atari’s Space Lords: The “Best. Multiplayer. Game. Ever.” You’ve Never Played.

As far as 1992 and parts of 1993 go, other than what games I played in the slowly dwindling arcade scene in New York City’s Penn Station, I don’t recall too many other great things happening in my life. Atari’s now mostly forgotten Space Lords was and is the key game that stands out for me for a few reasons, the primary one being the game was pretty innovative and another great example of the company making strides in “social” gaming long before it became the far bigger thing it is these days. Granted, arcade gaming has always been social (duh), but Atari really nailed it with a game that would do a number of things perfectly that modern gamers take for granted as “innovations” on consoles and PC.

Like 1985’s mega-hit Gauntlet seven years before, Space Lords was a game where anyone could step up to a machine plunk in some change and play with other live players of any skill level. The big differences were the seven years worth of technical improvements that made this an even more thrilling game experience than Gauntlet ever was (in my opinion). Between the dynamic outer space setting, first-person viewpoint, rear gunner co-op play and addition of two multiplayer-centric modes along with the ability for up to eight people to play on linked machines, Atari basically blasted out of the gate with a stellar game that managed to be as good as (or even better than) some later (and more famous) PC games that kicked of the first-person shooter craze that still spits out multimillion selling franchise titles from Halo, Call of Duty, and medal of Honor (among others).

Dream Arcades’ Dreamcade Vision 32: The Everyman (And Woman) Gamer Cave Machine

Ladies and gentlemen, commence the drooling, but hey, keep it off the cabinet, please: Dream Arcades new Dreamcade Vision 32 is a wonder machine and the company’s latest all-in-one instant game room hit guaranteed to have your friends over constantly (and you having to nicely kick them out seven days a week). Featuring a 32 inch LCD screen monitor, over 200 classic arcade games, a built-in MP3 music jukebox (!) and plenty of cool options you can add to the unit that will make it even more awesome.

While this is highly recommended as a “man cave” purchase, I can  certainly think of a few gamer gals who’d LOVE one of these around the house. Any hubby looking to surprise their favorite gamer chick out there? Here’s a big, fat hint, hint, hint on exactly what’s a great gift you both can use.  Anyway, as spectacular as this thing is, I do wish Dream Arcades would finally get around to adding a time machine add-on to their products so I could actually travel back in time on a long loop in order to play all those great games for as long as I wanted to. At $3099, this thing is a total steal, but if you grab one before the day is over, you can get a Vision 32 for $2599. So, grab that credit card or sell a useless body part (you know, you only need ONE kidney to survive, people) and get yours HERE.

Today’s “Humor” Video: Behind The Scenes With Snoop Dogg & TEKKEN Tag Tournament 2

 

OK, I don’t want to get beat up or anything, but I did laugh myself off the couch when I heard, then saw ol’ Snoop was going to be part of Namco Bandai’s upcoming fighter. It turns out that we actually have a lot in common as old-school TEKKEN fans, so I can’t knock him at all for being in the position he is where a game company can come a-callin’ and he then responded in a few ways to help promote the final product. The good news is he’s not sitting back and resting on a pile of money and high-grade weed with yet another game credit under his belt. The man actually went and made a video to promote the game and as usual, like him or not, you’ll be seeing the world through smoke-colored glasses for about four minutes as you get your groove on. And of course, here’s a behind the scenes peek featuring among others, Mr. Dogg, fighting game master Justin Wong, and everyone’s favorite actual gamer gal/model, Adrienne Curry. That’s kind of an in-joke around here, as for some reason, a few folks using the internet still think she’s not a gamer based on her looks (which is kind of stupid, as how you look as ZERO to do with whether or not you’re a gamer!)…

TEKKEN Tag Tournament 2  will hit retail in North America on September 11, 2012, Japan – September 13 and Europe on September 14. Expect the internet to keel over a few times from all the online play taking place shortly thereafter.
