Dragon’s Dogma Coming In May (With A Resident Evil 6 Demo Along For The Ride…)

Well, well, well… we have a release date! Capcom as announced that Dragon’s Dogma will hit retail in the North America on May 22, 2012 and will include a playable Resident Evil 6 demo (excellent) which will HOPEFULLY be on the disc and NOT some download-only nonsense that’s used to track new copies of DD or something like that. I’m actually happy to see a demo actually come out before the game, as it’s been an unfortunate trend over the last few years to ship out a demo too close to the release date (or well after in some cases). Then again, a lot of developers dislike making demos for a number of reasons (as you’ll find out if you get a chance to talk to a few every so often).  Of course, I’m already reading about the usual skeptics who think Capcom is sticking a RE demo on DD to automatically sell a ton of copies of a game that might not be that great. But I’ll be the first to go after those naysayers with a rolled up newspaper if they said that without laying a finger on the actual game.

Anyway, another one for the radar – Thanks, Capcom!

KId Icarus: Uprising “Intensity” Trailer: Indeed.

It’s almost here and if this latest trailer is any indication, Kid Icarus is back to stick around for a while. I really hope Nintendo is hard at work on a WII U game that shows off some even more polished console visuals, a more action/RPG-like game experience and some sort of co-op and/or multiplayer functionality for those who groove on that sort of thing. I’m a story and gameplay guy myself, so I don’t give much of a hoot about multiplayer unless it’s adding to the experience by bringing something new to the table other than just running around and shooting each other in the face. Of course, I also hate over-speculation, so I’ll shut up and let you get to watching that trailer…

Sorcery: Magically Reemerging As A Much Better Game (And Yes, Still On My Radar)…

Of all the PlayStation Move software I’ve seen since the peripheral’s introduction, Sorcery has been the main title I’ve been wanting to get my paws on. While the original demo shown was exciting, it still had a ‘tech demo’ look to it and needed a few layers of polish. It’s obvious that Sony thought so as well because the game vanished into thin air after that first showing and I hadn’t seen it at a press event until it was displayed last December. As you can see from this PlayStation Blog interview, the upcoming Action/RPG has indeed come a long way and absolutely looks like a must-buy whenever it finally hits stores (which should be sometime in “Spring 2012” the last time I checked).

Gallery: Nintendo DS/GBA Library (Plus)

I’d say the Game Boy library has been the most reduced over time. I used to collect boxed original Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance titles for a few years, but when those got out of hand, the bulk of them were sold off and I got into DS titles. What’s left after even more chopping down is what’s here minus a few things lent out. Also pictured is my tiny WonderSwan collection minus the Wonder Borg and Wonder Witch I sold off a few years back because I wasn’t using them at all. Oops. – I forgot to take a photo of my Game Boy Color, Camera, e-Reader and cards. Ah well. Those will end up in a future update…

Game of Thrones Season 2 “Shadow” Teaser: Winter In April? (No Fooling!)

Confession time: Although I’ve seen bits and pieces of some episodes, I actually JUST started watching Season One from the beginning a few days ago (thank you HBO On Demand!). I haven’t read any of the books either (too busy doing the gaming and blogging and poking about for work thing), but going in cold was actually a great thing for me as it’s making me want to take a look at the books at some point. Anyway, it’s a great show (as you know, blah, blah, blah) and Season 2 (starting April 1, no joke) is looking even better. Of course, given the penchant for anyone to get killed off at any time, I wouldn’t be surprised to see nothing but the crew left sometime around episode 8 or 9 of the new season (ha ha)…

London’s East End Gets Treated To SoulCalibur V Graffiti

Graffiti isn’t a crime EVERYWHERE in the free world and it’s good to see it used to promote what’s looking like a pretty cool game. Of course, London gets a lot of other cool stuff we don’t here in the states, but I’m not Anthony Bourdain and this isn’t the Travel Channel, so you’ll have to get over there and see for yourself at some point. Anyway, enjoy the video and make sure to check out SoulCalibur V when it hits stores tomorrow (or February 3, if you happen to be in the UK or Europe).

Dungeon Hunter: Alliance – (Slightly) Defending Ubisoft’s Vita Hard Sell

Based on a majority of the posts over at the PlayStation Blog regarding Ubisoft’s upcoming Vita Action/RPG, Gameloft’s Dungeon Hunter Alliance is going to be a hard sell to those who’ve already played the game as an iOS, Android or PS3 release… and that’s too bad. The upcoming port of DH:A has enhanced HD visuals and makes use of the Vita’s front/back touchscreen sand accelerometer in an interesting manner. As I’ve never played any version of the game and love a good dungeon crawler (I don’t own an iOS or Android device and don’t use PSN these days) , I’m interested in reviewing this one on its own merits.

Sadly, it seems that nearly everyone criticizing the game is doing so solely based on the $39.99 price point and not the fact that those new Vita owners who may have never heard of the game before probably won’t mind supporting Ubisoft, Gameloft and Sony with a full-price retail purchase… provided the game is good. Herein lies the problem with launch software (well, one of many problems). If you don’t spend time creating an experience that favors both old as well as new players, the veterans will always be there to let you know you’ve” screwed up” (even if you really didn’t)… Continue reading

Yes, more game collection photos are coming soon. I’ve just been otherwise occupied with some miscellaneous stuff.I won’t get to game system pics for a while, as it will take a bit of work to unearth everything from the Bottomless Bins of Doom…

Yup, reformatting the old blog posts to WordPress is BORING as hell, but those old posts need to be cleaned up, fixed and restored. In a way, this is a great thing, as I’m finding a few spelling mistakes here and there (a result of too many late nights writing) and correcting them as I go.

Ummm hmmm, I’ll be adding some more classic (and perhaps a few current) movie reviews. I get invited to festival screenings on occasion, but just don’t have the chance to attend, being a one-man operation and primarily focusing on games. However, I’m working on an feature about films that may have influenced certain game (just so I get two passions in the same reading space).

That is all. Good Night (Maybe – I still have a packed inbox and need to see what’s post-worthy)

SoulCalibur V Update: A Terrible Trio Trailer

Here’s another look at SoulCalibur V in action, this time featuring Algol and Edgemaster plus Soul of Devil Jin, a custom character cooked using the beefy edit function. I can;t wait to see how many other new fighters the game’s user base whips up, as the possibilities are endless and the game looks to be one of those that gets played to death for the next few years online as well as off. SoulCalibur V arrives in the US on January 31 and in Europe on February 3.

Dragon’s Dogma Story Trailer Teaser

Capcom’s been cooking this one up for a while and while the full version of this trailer won’t be revealed until 1/31, they’re releasing this short tease to get you all worked up (and rightly so). I’m also gathering they’ve been tightening up the gameplay significantly from the demo versions I played last year, as there were a few issues that needed ironing out. Then again, a demo is just that, and in no way signifies the quality of the final build. PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will get to see that for themselves as Capcom is promising a “flood of Dragon’s Dogma info on the way!”

Well, that means I’ll be posting it when it splashes around in my inbox…
