D3Publisher of America brought along bullet hell, beast hell and bug hell to their recent NYC press event and fans of insanely deep dungeon crawlers, trippy arcade shooters and giant bug blasting will all be well-served soon enough with a few key releases. I've been waiting patiently for D3Publisher of America to drop into NYC with a build of Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon and after playing a bit of the very solid, very fun three-player online co-op and a bit of the intense Survival Mode, I can very safely say that the game's going to be a keeper for EDF fans old and new. The missions are lengthy and challenging even on the easiest setting with bugs appearing in differently sized packs that come from multiple directions, often mixing in different types of pests that end up being more than enough to keep you on your toes. Speaking of Atlus – I’d forgotten to run this nicely disturbing Catherine trailer from a few weeks back, so here you go – enjoy! I really can’t wait for this one, but now that it’s US-bound, I don’t need to spend too much money on the import version and bugging a few folks to assist in translating things. Awesome.
UK-based developer Splash Damage has every right to be chest-out, chin up proud of their upcoming shooter, Brink. The game is a total blast to play and everything from the deep character and weapons customization to the smartly paced addictiveness of the team-centered FPS gameplay is stellar stuff. I got to check the game out recently when Betheseda dropped into NYC with it (and InXile's fun RPG action/romp Hunted: The Demon's Forge) and yes, it's not only ridiculously impressive, it's designed so brilliantly that even non-FPS fans will want to pick up a controller and have a go. With its destroyed futuristic “Ark” setting and two groups pitted against each other in a race against time for what each sees as humanity's future, there's a solid sense of urgency under the trappings of what would be just another shooter du jour in less capable hands.Read more »
Some folks don’t like the direction the SHIFT series took with its focus on more realistic aspects instead of tons of “street” style customization and nitrous overdosing races. ME, I say just calm down, “shaddapyuface” and perhaps play the darn game when it comes out or I’m turning this car around NOW. Damn kids. There’s room at the inn for ALL types of NFS games, and if you KNOW where the franchise originated, you’d actually appreciate ALL the different games, not just whine for the same stuff year in and year out. That is all. Release date, by the way: March 29 in North America, and April 1 in Europe. See you on the road!
Rumor had it that the PS3 version of Portal was to have Move support. Valve has officially gone on record to say nope, it does NOT. Heck, according to the company line, it’s already the best version of the game, so packing anything else into it would probably make the game disc rupture and your PS3 very unhappy. HOWEVER, you can still attempt to balance that retail copy on your Move wand and take a photo or record the act in progress (feel free to send Valve a pic or post the video on YouTube), thus “supporting” the PS3 version with your Move controller.
Oh – That gentle reminder? Go pre-order the game already.
Hunted is looking to be an excellent co-op focused action/RPG and another winner for Bethesda. InXile is cooking up a gorgeous mix of visuals and gameplay that should satisfy fans of multiple genres. I’m in, for sure – what about you?
I figured the big guy was going to be in here somewhere, but holy mackerel in a handbasket. Er, good luck beating him. Maybe that magic team of (rolls dice) Sir Arthur, Jill and Thor can take him down? It’s your call. Maybe just hit your TV with a baseball bat and try to trap him in a corner if you start sucking at the fight too many times…
Six more knockout screens and some excellent character art/renders from PlatinumGames' upcoming online brawler. Yes, I'll keep mentioning that I absolutely want to see single-player AND offline versus modes until I hear officially that they're in or out. Trust me, Sega (you too, Platinum!), it'll help the game sell a few more copies to folks who want to have that full arcade experience at home and hate playing against jerks and cheaters online. Er, not that everyone who plays online are jerks and cheaters, mind you…
