Speaking of kids and perilous situations, I love this TV spot, as it’s not only well shot and acted, it really makes me want to dive into the game and play more than the demo sections I had so much fun with. Granted, Capcom’s kitchen sink approach to creating Resident Evil 6 might not please some gamers who want ONE type of gameplay and the same old stuff as in the first four numbered games. Fortunately, I’m one of those people who got what the dev team was working at right away and saw that each segment of the game will be its own mini-epic rushing to collide with the other parts to create the biggest and possibly best new RE game this console cycle. I’ve been holding back impressions on the game because I want to dive into the entire disc and experience the stories as they’re meant to be played, so like many of you, I’m eager to see how it all meshes by the end credits. If anything, I’m betting it’s the most talked about game in the franchise’s history for all the content it’s bringing players new and old…

Hey, Where’d My Wednesday Go? Go Watch A Trailer While I Figure That Out…
Oops. I got so buried in a couple of games that arrived yesterday that I forgot to add a post! Eh, it happens. I’ll be back with some reviews I started for some other games as well as some other posts later today. Now, I’m headed to sleep to rest my weary eyeballs. In the meantime, here’s a trailer for Scribblenauts Remix to ogle, now that it’s coming to iOS after all this time… good night!
Catching Up (Sort of)…
OK, after a bit of delay thanks to a few aches and pains (creak, groan!) plus the stupidly HOT weather we’ve been having, I’m back to working on some previews that should go up this week: Resident Evil 6 and Street Fighter X Tekken (Vita) from Capcom’s press tour, Some fun EA stuff (The new Medal of Honor, Need For Speed Most Wanted, A few Sims games) and one or two others. I’ll probably post some reviews I started a while back, but I need to finish the games and go over the notes I’ve taken, as I like completing games before I write final impressions. Um, that is all. Maybe. I still have to think of what Random Film to recommend this week…
Spec Ops: The Line Developer Diary #1: Yager’s Focus On Excellence All Around
With the game about to roll into retail this coming Tuesday, 2K has released this developer diary about the making of this innovative squad-based shooter. It’s pretty clear that developer Yager wasn’t set on just copying other games or doing something that wasn’t going to be yet another multiplayer focused shooter with a to short single player campaign, so definitely check this one out if you’re looking for something unique and compelling on a few fronts…
Family Matters (Back In A Bit)…
Hey folks – my normal post a day plus routine is slowing to a stop for the moment, as I’m currently filling in for a relative who has been taking care of another. As soon as things get back to some sort of normalcy, I’ll be back in a bit with regular updates…
E3 2012: Spec Ops: The Line TV Spot: I’ll Have a Shot Of Yager, Please…
2K Games and developer Yager really have a hit here, what with all that amazing sand technology and the source material (Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness) being perfect for the game they’re presenting. Here’s yet another example of a genre game defying the usual conventions and stepping outside of the box to do it differently. Like a few other titles pushing the envelope, I’m hoping gamers can free up a few extra brain cells to actually appreciate the hard work that went into this one without complaining about the experience NOT being what they “expected.” Hell, sometimes, it’s NICE to be surprised about a game, I say…
My Tuesday Was A Bit Bumpy. Et Tu?
Bleh. I actually lost an entire review post I was in the process of editing thanks to a storm blowing through here, so I’m rewriting from a previous auto save. Well, who said life was easy? Also, I got a copy of Game of Thrones and the nice hardcover art book. So far, I only put an hour or so into the game and it’s definitely much more text heavy and old school in some ways. A lot of work went into the game, though, so when I get done, I’ll score it fairly. Back in a bit…
What You Should Be Doing This Week…
Playing Dragon’s Dogma, of course. Capcom has cooked up a slow burning yet surprisingly addictive and fun open world dungeon crawler that’s guaranteed to make even the most skeptical “Japanese developers can’t make western games” message board denizen stand up and take notice. Sure, it’s got some flaws here and there, but the mix of open-world exploration (and it’s a HUGE world), tough monsters (if you’re not prepared, you’ll die early and often) and a great Pawn system (something I’ve wanted to see in a RPG for years) makes this a pretty solid RPGs. Granted, it takes a while to get off the ground in terms of story, but I understand there’s a hell of a finale and unlike some sites, I’m not about to post impressions until I get there.
OK, I need to stop typing and play some more. I’m guessing my review will go up by the end of the week, as I’m taking my time and exploring as much as possible. Also, for the record, I haven’t installed the game on my 360 (My HDD is out of room thanks to too may other games I’m playing), but I’m not seeing any major frame rate issues at all. Just some screen tearing and pop-in on stuff, but that’s a common thing that’s not going to affect my scoring…
Back in a bit…
More Diablo III Downtime Art, Alien Edition…
Since I have a few minutes to spare, here’s some more “what to do while waiting for DIII to fix itself” art I did earlier this week during some sort of system error (whee!). Both are a reworkings of Alien sketches I did a while back – I like these a lot more than the originals.
Again, I’m not hating on Blizzard at all for the game itself, as it’s great stuff when I can play it and as it comes together with the patches and updates, there’s no doubt that it’s going to rule its particular niche for some time. That said, I’m betting a few other developers working on similar titles have been watching how this all plays out as they get their games ready for their closeups…
OK, that’s it for now – back to cobbling together notes and such for a review next week…
Cloudy With A Chance Of Stupid…
Some days, it’s just too easy to dislike the internet. I’m talking mostly about YOU, Diablo III and your need for us solo players to ALWAYS be online even if we don’t want to be. Well, whatever – I still think Blizzard would make MORE money if they allowed more people to play the game offline (hell, we’re not all thieves and cheaters, silly). That’s all for now. I’ll be back later with something more productive and only slightly less snarky.
