New Addition: Pandora’s Tower Arrives!

rainfall trio

So, I ended up getting all three of these seemingly final US version Wii RPGs and I’m very pleased that I did this when they were their normal prices and not overinflated eBay purchases. I fired up Pandora’s Tower for just over an hour today and it’s pretty interesting so far. It’s a mix of elements from Shadow of the Colossus, God of War, Castlevania and a few other games with a nice JRPG look (some pretty visuals and an appropriately unique color palette). On the audio front, the UK dub is solid and the soundtrack so far is excellent with its bombastic classical and choral elements driving the action and some cinemas. So far, it’s not really “innovative” in any major ways, but developer Ganbarion has done a solid job in taking the hack & slash and having a bit of fun with it. OK, now I need to get a few more posts done so I can get back to playing this one…

Pandora’s Tower: Xseed Gets Wii Owners One Final Great JRPG….

It’s finally here and yep, you should be playing this if you’re a Wii owner and fan of this type of fantasy action/RPG. As I’m seeing a lot of those “Project Rainfall” petitioners whooping it up and patting themselves on the back and heads about how they got those final three important Wii-only JRPGs localized, I’ll have to admit that after playing through Xenoblade Chronicles and The Last Story that so far, these games have been pretty amazing… but not quite the be-all, end-alls some were claiming and hoping they’d turn out to be. That said, I’m definitely not passing up Pandora’s Tower at all, as it might be the most unique of the tree titles in terms of a few things. So, a big fat THANK YOU goes out (once again) to the fine folks at Xseed Games for bringing home that BACON one final time for us Wii owners out there. You’ll only get that in-joke if you hang around the company’s message boards, by the way…

Pandora’s Tower Story Trailer: What’s in the Box Will Probably Be Hard to Find Soon…

Xseed Games is getting what’s probably the final great Wii exclusive, Pandora’s Tower out soon (April 16, 2013, according to Amazon.com), and the publisher has just released a trailer that introduces Elena, the cursed singer your hero, Aeron needs to bump off a bunch of bosses in order to save. I’d absolutely suggest pre-ordering this one, as it will more than likely pull in some pretty high prices once the limited amount of copies runs dry. Recently, used copies of Xenoblade Chronicles are fetching upwards of $80 (and some have gone for well over $100) and while Xseed’s own The Last Story is still in stock at their online shop and some retailers at its original price points, it looks to join that game and this one as a rare bird indeed…

Wallet Drain Alert! Xseed Games Brings It With Some Awesome Surprises…

Wow and double wow. First we get the spectacular news that Pandora’s Tower is headed to North America and now Xseed is setting out to make 2013 even better for their fans (and possibly their best year to date) by announcing a VERY cool selection of new titles plus yet another classic Nihon Falcom JRPG set heading to PC gamers via Steam. Even better, everything but the Steam download is getting a retail release!  Yes, I’m typing this post with a big fat grin on my face, as I want everything here that’s coming.

Pandora’s Tower (YES!) Headed to Wii This Spring (Thanks Again, Xseed!)

Pandoras CoverHoly Cats. I hadn’t expected the last Wii RPG on the list of the final three major ones fans have been clamoring for to ever get the OK for a US localization, but Xseed Games comes through yet again thanks to the successes of Mistwalkers stunning epic, The Last Story as well as Nintendo having a hit with the very well received Monolith game Xenoblade Chronicles in 2012. Anyway, color me thrilled to see one more (and one final) Wii RPG coming out. Gambarion’s gorgeous Pandora’s Tower seems to be the fastest-paced and most action oriented of the three games with time being a factor in terms of what sort of ending players will reach. Granted, this also looks to be a game that bets on players going through it many times to see everything it has to offer (which is absolutely fine with me)…

As good as this news is, I’m hoping we get to see one final Wii game headed stateside. While it’s not a JRPG, the Sandlot-developed all-out action game Zangeki no Reginleiv is BEGGING for a US localization. Yeah, yeah, Nintendo published it in Japan and ignored an English translation so Xseed will need to convince them that the game is indeed worthy of a plane trip west. I say if they poll their fan base and get the proper response, it’s entirely possible that we get one final Wii hit. Unless Sandlot is quietly working on a Wii U update in HD (which would be even better because they can fix a few technical issues the original game has and perhaps add GamePad support so two players can have at it with or without split screen). Anyway, go pre-order PT from GameStop or Amazon (both sites list a March 26, 2013 release date, which is coming sooner than you think) if you’re dancing around the room because of the news.
