Sniper Elite V2 Demo Goes Live. Give It A Shot.

Even if you’re still somehow on the fence about this one (why? It’s NO CoD clone or anything even close to what you’re probably thinking if you ONLY play FPS after FPS), you can now PLAY the PSN or Xbox Live demo and see for yourself what I’m psyched for. Rebellion’s done its best work to date with this one, so take it for a spin and then go pre-order the game, already.  As for you PC owners and your tricked out rigs… well, you have to sit it out for a bit longer until that demo is ready, so keep your shirts on, OK?  Maybe  you can go hang out at a friend’s place even though playing games on a console is “beneath” your graphical and keyboard-mouse control expectations (*yawn*… whatever!), you’ll see what you’re in for shortly.

Hell, All those German V2 scientists aren’t going to shoot themselves, you know…

Telltale Games Wants YOU To Be In The Walking Dead Game. So Go Do It Already.

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. You HATE pre-ordering, right? You want to wait on your hands until the big review sites pass judgment on the games you want, then wait some more until they hit the clearance bin and snap them up for a song (or a whistle when they drop in price even quicker).

However… Telltale isn’t having that noise, kids – they’re giving ONE of you out there your big, fat chance to be IMMORTALIZED digitally in the upcoming game based on Robert Kirkman’s award-winning comic and all you need to do is… guess what?  Easy as pie to enter and it doesn’t involve becoming irreversibly infected with a zombie virus at all. So go make yourself a potential neighborhood superstar and take a chance on winning this one. As much as a feel like one of the undead most mornings, I’d go and enter, but I’m sure us media elite (little in-joke there) aren’t allowed… rawr!

Mortal Kombat On The Vita: That Challenge Tower Just Got A Whole Lot Taller (And Trickier)

I’m one of those people who hates the word “port” with a divine passion, particularly when it comes to portable versions of home console games. Hell, a LOT of hard work goes into getting everything  jammed onto a handheld and in the case of games like Mortal Kombat on the Vita, the smaller system is actually getting a lot more in the way of new content. Gamers who still don’t quite get it hear that word and automatically think they’re getting nothing changed from the home version or worse, they think they’re getting a “lesser: game for their money, all squashed down and unrecognizable.  Well, that’s not the case at all with this version of MK, as I found out last week when I sat down with the Producer, NetherRealm’s Hector Sanchez and he showed me around some of the new Challenge Tower events.

The Vita-specific content actually shows up in a separate tower and as you make your way up, you’ll see missions that use the Vita touch screens in some interesting ways, a few of which will be familiar to fans of certain hugely popular casual device games. Sure, slicing flying stuff while avoiding bombs or trying to keep your character balanced for ten seconds over a deadly pit using the Vita’s accelerometer might seem a wee bit too casual to some hardcore MK fans, but it works perfectly on the Vita. And besides, we’re talking about a franchise that’s had a “chess” mode and kart racing dropped in as funky bonus content in previous installments. Not to worry, though – there are plenty of gory moments in these new mini-games that should please even the most die-hard fan of the series.

As a portable game, MK still delivers the goods where it counts, controls like a dream on the Vita and with its May 1 release date screaming up pretty fast, looks as if it’s set to be as big a hit on Sony’s shiny new little wonder as it was on consoles. Of course, that “big hit” stuff all depends on YOU (and I don’t mean your skill at pulling off Fatalities, either), so don’t disappoint Hector, folks. Or Scorpion, Baraka, Stryker or any of the other fighters in the game, for that matter. You wouldn’t want them to come looking for you to ask why you’re not taking them out to play, would you?

Nine More Gameplay Videos? Capcom REALLY Wants You To Buy Dragon’s Dogma…

Capcom is absolutely going all out with all these too short clips featuring the game’s assorted classes, aren’t they? Don’t get me wrong, folks – I’m definitely excited about the game and can’t wait to see how it’s all turned out. I’d just prefer ONE longer video to post instead of so many smaller ones, but hey – the more, the merrier, right? Still, all of these these too-brief blasts are getting many fans even happier about the upcoming action/RPG (and that included Resident Evil 6 demo is also getting fans of that particular franchise bouncing up and down in their chairs). OK, Capcom – all I need it the actual game to prance around and knock off a few beasties in for a huge chunk of time and I’m all good…

More Dragon’s Dogma clips after the jump…

Devil May Cry HD Collection Rolls Out Today For PS3, 360

Hear that loud screechy wailing sound? It’s a bunch of folks who’ve already played these games to death cheering that they get to do it all over again, whee! Just kidding. Anyway, Capcom’s got those folks by the nose (and has for years), but now they need to bend those noses down from their turned up positions and point them all to Ninja Theory’s upcoming DmC so they can see and play something that takes a different look and Dante’s past. There’s nothing wrong with nostalgia at all, kids… except when you let it cloud your heads so much that you refuse to want to even try something different and then complain that games never do anything new. Remember this.

Sniper Elite V2 Hands-On: Rebellion’s Latest Is Dead On Target.

Who knew one good cure for an aching back would be a bullet to the eyeball?

My poor old back was a bit out of whack after some lugging some heavy stuff to the airport shenanigans the previous morning, but after sitting down to a nice bit of the Xbox 360 version pf Rebellion’s superb Sniper Elite V2 last Thursday, I left the Edison Hotel with a spring in my step (but scanning high windows and rooftops for snipers). 505 Games is fortunate enough to be publishing Rebellion’s followup to their 2005 PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox sleeper (later ported to Wii in 2010) that’s still one of the most challenging and tightly focused war games ever put on a console. Sniper Elite V2 ups the ante with an even more phenomenal proprietary graphics engine, excellent sound design and gameplay that’s going to surprise a lot of people who’ve never experienced the original…

Review: Ninja Gaiden 3

Platform: PlayStation 3 (also on Xbox 360)

Developer: Team Ninja

Publisher: Tecmo Koei

# of Players 1 (Online 2 – 8)

ESRB Rating: M (Mature)

Official Site

Score: C+ (75%)

Team Ninja set itself up with quite a paradox-shaped pickle when they set about designing Ninja Gaiden 3. The particular problem plaguing them? How to make a game for new casual players (and those who hated the supreme challenge of the older Ninja Gaiden games) and while pleasing the more hardcore fans of the franchise (some from the arcade and NES days) who wanted something brutally difficult that took a great deal of effort to master. Now, some of those more loyal hardcore Ryu Hayabusa fans would  simply say “screw the noobs!” or something far less print-friendly. However, these days it’s getting much harder to sell some “core” games so far within a niche and make a decent profit. Yes, that’s pretty awful if you think about it, but broadening the base has worked well for certain other franchises and genres, right?

You Won’t Need A Sweet Tooth To Ride The Lollipop Chainsaw Schoolbus…

Wait, that sounds kind of perverted in a way, but whatever. I’m just thrilled that I finally get to see and play the game next week, as it’s coming to NYC with a few other WBIE-published titles I’ve been really looking forward to. I’ll post impressions of everything once any embargoes are lifted, so pop back in from time to time (or just watch your email if you’re a subscriber) and see what’s what with Juliet. I don’t think that magic school bus in the video will be along for the tour, but if it is, I’ll snap a few pics and post them here. Maybe I’ll even throw myself under that bus (while it’s not moving, thank you much) for added oomph…

The Walking Dead Debut Trailer: Proof That Good Zombie Games Aren’t Dead (Yet)…

The whole “add zombies to anything” style of game making is finally playing itself shuffle by shuffle after much success, but Telltale Games is definitely doing it up right in their upcoming episodic series based on the award winning comic. Actually, Based AROUND that award-winning comic would be a better description, as the game looks to introduce a whole new set of characters and situations rather than do the “expected” thing and let players dink around with what’s already in the comic (and on the TV show). Of course, some internet ranters aren’t hip to this and are giving the company both barrels on Facebook, Twitter and anywhere else they can set up a soapbox and bleat away mindlessly.  Obviously, “Braaaaaaaaiiinnnns!” aren’t doing too well working, so even if Telltale and Kirkman sent a barn full of walkers out to get the haters, they’d all come back more pissed off because half those heads they chewed on were empty already (or filled to the brim with bile, yuk).

Personally, I rather like that the game isn’t trying to expand the older stories because there are absolutely a ton of other tales that can be told about other survivors, so you won’t be hearing any complaints from this direction. As for those excellent “making of” videos that have also been posted by Telltale, I’ll be dropping those into the other blog later this afternoon or so, as I’m about to go to bed. I’ve a long day later on – got a 7am wake-up call inbound, so I’ll be the one at the train station looking like a zombie, eek!

Sleeping Dogs’ “Undercover: Hong Kong” Trailer: Square Enix Is Pitching Woo, Big Time

Clearly, the team at United Front Games has a lot to live up to, but it looks as if gamers fond of the True Crime series (warts and all), will have a completely new game experience from a different publisher and developer that just may make them forget about that series (or at least, make them stop comparing it to this new IP). Hey, as long as I don’t have to worry about having a rapper as an unlockable character or anything overtly silly like that, I’m a happy camper. As I say again and again, We. Shall. See… (but I DO think Square Enix is on quite the publishing roll these days)…
