Thanks to this year being SO packed with new games and a LOT more new indie games popping up on anything that can play them, Dead State nearly dropped off my radar. Thankfully, the folks at DoubleBear Productions seem to be at least part psychic as they’ve dropped that new video above on their YouTube channel that shows some nice progress on an upcoming demo version. The game’s Kickstarter backers and anyone who pre-ordered the game will get first dibs, of course, but I’m hoping there’s something for us media folk to dink around with at some point because this is the sort of game that needs some love from those of us who love games like this. I’m getting a heavy X-Com meets Jagged Alliance meets Fallout vibe from this one, all of which were (and still are) truly stellar tactical RPG experiences. Granted, some of those gamers who think this is a fast-paced kill-fest along the lines of a Left 4 Dead or Dead Island will be shocked (shocked, I say!) at the more deliberate pacing and need to think before you take any action here. But if this game makes some of that crowd learn to appreciate this style of game and gameplay, all’s the better, I’d say…

What’s The State of Dead State? Funny You Should Ask…
Hot of the presses (well, not really, but it’s from today!) comes this neat interview with members of DoubleBear Productions, the dev team behind the upcoming indie zombie-themed RPG, Dead State. It’s pretty cool to see the game coming together despite the team being in separate locations. I like how the game is shaping up so far as a more serious exploration of the survival theme as opposed to a simple mindless shooter (we’ve enough of those to last a few lifetimes) or comedy-packed take on its theme. Of course, I’m holding out for some hands-on time, so my eyeball is fixed on the progress this makes as it winds its way towards completion…
Dead State: DoubleBear’s Indie ‘ZRPG’ Looks Awesomely Apocalyptic…

I’ve been way too busy to keep up with every indie game I’d like to play, but once in a while I catch up to something like DoubleBear Productions work in progress, Dead State and all is well in my little corner of the Internet. As you can see, there’s a nice The Walking Dead meets Fallout vibe going on here (which is double cool) and the WIP combat video below shows off a pretty impressive engine and grid-based tactics at work. The writing here is solid as well, with some nicely done descriptions that bring the slower-paced battles to life very well indeed. Hopefully, this will run on my ancient PC or laptop when all is said and done. I could use a nice turn-based post zombie apocalypse RPG that’s not a system hog for the sake of flashy graphics (and so could you, I bet). This absolutely looks as if it’s going to have a wider appeal amongst a few types of folks into the current zombie craze which seems to be without end and only growing in strength.
Keep an eyeball on this one, folks. If everything falls into place, this just might be an indie sleeper that gets a ton of attention and puts DoubleBear on the lips of zombie fans around the globe. Or at least keeps them busy for way too many hours across many sleepless nights… or both.
