That said, I do wish the collective internet fan yapppers would hush it with the “Skyrim killer” talk. This game, like every other big RPG, should be seen and judged on its own merits, not point by point with some other game that’s not taking place in the same game world. That way, if it IS better than Skyrim (or at least less buggy that that game was), it will have actually earned that praise. And if it isn’t, well, those folks who kind of keep saying that but haven’t played Skyrim at all (but sure, reading negative posts about a game counts as “playing” it these days) won’t have to go into turtle mode and defend themselves from people who actually know what they’re talking about. Dragon’s Dogma Developer Diary 1: Capcom Spills The Beans (And Some Blood)…
With Dragon’s Dogma a mere few weeks away from going gold, here’s a look at some cool “making of” videos that spell out what it takes to bring the game to life on your PS3 or Xbox 360. IT certainly looks as if anyone expecting to have an easy go at it will be in for a royal surprise when they find out that these beasties in the game all bite back hard. As to all the “better than Skyrim” stuff I’m reading about from the usual suspects, I just snicker and smile, as that’s a totally different beast, particularly if you’re a PC gamer with a solid rig and some of the better mods for that game. Tanks A Lot, Capcom! Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Pre-Order Campaign Rolls Out
No, you’re still not getting a big honkin’ 40+ button controller, so quit griping. Of course, getting ALL three bonuses in one shot is a no-go unless you want three copies of the game or have your fingers crossed that they get released as free or paid DLC at some point, so three’s always that to complain about if you’re so inclined. Hey, it’s not ALL Capcom’s fault, kids – that’s just the way thing go in this day and age of every retailer wanting exclusive content and your gaming dollar.
That said, I keep wondering how much longer the industry can keep this up, given the backlash against other things that are a lot less annoying to those of us who want games to ship with as much content as possible, Granted, if you ask around, you’ll hear most people IN the industry saying “this is how it is” or something like that. However, it’s looking as if this enforced means of content division can backfire if enough gamers put their foot down and start screaming as loudly as possible. As for me, I’ll be playing the game with no bonuses because I think it’ll be fine without them.
Dragon’s Dogma Digital Comic Parts 1 & 2: Hardcore Pawn Video!
Oh, I’m SUCH a card, aren’t I? Anyway, here are the first two of four parts from this prequel story that sets up some of the behind the scenes story for you. I’m kind of hoping all four parts will be on the game disc, but if not, it’s not a huge deal. Or deal-breaker, for that matter. I’m just excited that development on Dragon’s Dogma is probably all done and the game is getting ready to roll into retail in the next few months…
Dragon’s Dogma Demo Due, Dig?
April 24 here in the US, according to Capcom’s PR department. April 25 in Europe. Now, you can finally get your hands on this hard as nails action/RPG and see what’s what with all those big monsters attempting to eat you alive or poke you full of holes and whatever. As I see from the press release, it’s a two-part demo, so I’ll stick my neck out here and assume it’s the one with that Griffin boss battle which is awesomely hard as hell thanks to a confined space and a boss that’s cheap as all get out. If indeed it IS the same demo, a tip for you: pay attention to his attacks and make sure you deal as much damage as possible in a short time, as dragging the fight out too long is a bad idea. Or it WAS a bad idea for me when I tried the game last year at NY Comic Con…
Steel Battalion Captivate 2012 Footage: Time To Get Kinected, I Suppose.
Hmmm. Not only does it look as if I’ll be hopping on the Kinect bandwagon for this game (OK, and the new Fable and maybe some other stuff that doesn’t involve dancing around in front of the TV), I’ll also have to do a Game Appreciation 101 class on artistic stylization choices made by game developers, as way too many people don’t “get” that the game is SUPPOSED to look a bit rustic and aged and not all Unreal-y and shiny up the wazoo. It’s amazing to me that those who don’t get this, but hey… I guess here to educate and it’s a long, hard process for sure. Don’t worry, Capcom and From – I got your back.
Lost Planet 3 Trailer: Good Things Seem To Come In Threes…
I love how Capcom isn’t relying on simply whipping up an exact template of the last game and shoving it out the door to guaranteed sales (but boring replay value). The new stuff shakes things up nicely while making me want to go back and replay the two previous installments to poke at the things I didn’t like so much. I still think that the game should have the flying rig from Dark Void added in as an Easter Egg of some sort, as well as a Dino Crisis 3 reference just for old times sake. Hey, making fun of misfires always works for my own life, so I say go for it, guys!
DmC Captivate Trailer/Gameplay: Dante’s Looking Sharper Than Before, So Lose The Hate, Kids…
Go, Ninja Theory! I love what I see here (even with the changes made), but as usual, the noisy crickets vomiting in the weeds outside keep getting in my way of enjoying all this hard work. OK… all the haters really need to put a boot in it already and just let the game get completed and ship as Capcom and Ninja Theory want it to go out. A little RESPECT goes a long way, kids – so knock it off and maybe try to accept something new for a change.
Still, I have to say, Capcom and Ninja Theory have a hard road ahead of them that I’m sure they’re a lot less diplomatic about in private. Man, what a bunch of unappreciative babies we have this console generation. This sense of entitlement too many feel towards content they should simply let a talented developer try something new with is getting out of hand. If the game is a hit (despite the bile being spilled), it sill still be hated by the idiots, but that’s too bad for them, I say.
Why more people aren’t waiting for some ACTUAL hands-on time before damning the final game to the discount bin is beyond me. Being a sheep and following the bleating heard of Negative Nellies just means you end up playing the same crap year after year and complaining about it afterward as if you don’t know YOU’RE part of the problem…

Capcom is absolutely going all out with all these too short clips featuring the game’s assorted classes, aren’t they? Don’t get me wrong, folks – I’m definitely excited about the game and can’t wait to see how it’s all turned out. I’d just prefer ONE longer video to post instead of so many smaller ones, but hey – the more, the merrier, right? Still, all of these these too-brief blasts are getting many fans even happier about the upcoming action/RPG (and that included Resident Evil 6 demo is also getting fans of that particular franchise bouncing up and down in their chairs). OK, Capcom – all I need it the actual game to prance around and knock off a few beasties in for a huge chunk of time and I’m all good…

Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor Tutorial: From Software Shows How To Make The Kinect WORK
One of the near-constant gripes I hear about Kinect from some “core” gamers who hate it is that they feel it’s not for the games THEY want or like (or want TO like, for that matter). Well, thanks to From Software and Capcom, a few of those already made up minds may change a bit. The upcoming Xbox 360 exclusive Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor will be on display at PAX 2012 this weekend and will be playable, so I’m expecting a few folks to be hopping on board for this one once they get their hands on it. No, it doesn’t use the Kinect as the sole means of control – From has integrated both a stock 360 controller and Kinect controls together to make one of the most immersive game experiences using the peripheral to date. Hell, I’d MUCH rather be buying a Steel Battalion Kinect Bundle than that Star Wars deal that’s just a cash cow for Microsoft with a not so hot game strapped into the cockpit. Ah well, in a perfect world, this one would get more hype… Go From! Go Capcom!
