Oh Yeah: Happy Halloween!

I actually almost forgot it was Halloween today, as I’ve been so busy, but thanks to the radio reminding me that random strange kids will be ringing my doorbell and making me nuts today, I’m more prepared. Anyway, here’s a nice bit of holiday-themed art I did earlier this year on a whim. If I wasn’t so busy and could afford the costume, I’d dress up like Frankenstein’s monster and freak some of those kids the heck out. Of course, that would mean I’d have parents chasing me with pitchforks and torches, but such is the life of the hapless creature. Anyway, back to getting stuff done. I’ve a few reviews due!

No, I Didn’t Forget You, AMC…

Hey, kids! My regularly scheduled Sunday night The Walking Dead review is going up later today (Monday) as I was playing War LOTR: in the North in order to finish that review in time for the embargo to lift. No spoilers here other than to say I like the game. A lot. Anyway, if you saw the show last night, discuss: that Shane is turning into a right bastard, isn’t he? Poor Otis certainly didn’t deserve what he got, that’s for sure…

Snow Day! Well, I’m In For The Weekend Anyway…

Yeah, it’s snowing in NYC two days before Halloween and it’s sticking. Nice. Good thing I only had a trip to the post office to get done and a bag of rice to buy. I’m in all day after that, folks. Fortunately, I have The Lord of the Rings: War in the North to keep me busy. VERY busy, as the game is pretty darn huge. More on how huge on Tuesday…

Back in a bit. I still have some more post-NYCC Capcom impressions to write up (YES, you should  absolutely put Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City on your must have lists) as well as a ton of other things. Maybe even a cool giveaway if you’re good… But that’s for later…

Back In A Bit (Disturbing Clown Version)…

I’m working on a few updates, non-DAF stuff and such, so I’ll be back later tonight/tomorrow with some previews and reviews I’ve been meaning to get done (among other things). Here’s a picture of Twisted Metal’s Sweet Tooth I did a long time ago for a magazine cover. Remember, clowns aren’t scary, kids… it’s who’s behind the mask you need to worry about. In the case of this one, if you see any clown driving a tricked out ice cream truck… don’t wave it down or YOU’LL be the one in the freezer. Just hope he doesn’t spot you running for cover, as that truck has got a few tricks up it’s sleeve…

“Make a list of movies you believe everyone should see at least once…”

Um… OK. Hey, WP keeps suggesting wildly generic topics like this as potential post subjects, so on a whim (and while waiting for my water to boil – early tea time!) I’m doing this off the top of my head, 100+ films (for now)*, NO “top 100” nonsense (this list is in no particular order despite some directors’ work appearing consecutively) and no links, so you need to do some work here figuring out which versions. No documentaries in this list, as that’s a separate long list I may get to at some random point. CLUE, more often than not, it’s the original version over the remake, dammit. Black and White or silent film won’t kill you and you’d be surprised at how great the majority of older films are when compared to today’s cinema: Continue reading

Busy Week (Plus Tax)…

OK, I’m buried under stuff to finish, so bear with me while I play catch up. I’m working on a few NYCC previews (Max Payne 3, The Darkness 2, Mass Effect 3, Prototype 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Asura’s Wrath, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, RE: Revelations, Hitman: Absolution and a few others (yikes!). Then there’s the Batman Arkham City launch photos I need to post. Which reminds me: HEY TALON! You left your signed poster at the event and I rescued it for you. If you’re reading this, drop me a line and I’ll mail it your way. Let’s see, what else? Oh yeah, I’ve a few reviews to finish,  still need to update over 1000 posts from the old blog AND I just found a bunch of old reviews I thought I lost when I left a portable drive on the subway a while back. Those will be posted at some point, so I expect some fun and confusion on Facebook when that happens.

Did I mention I have a few meetings to attend and a movie screening as well? No? Well, add that to the pile. OK, back to the salt mines!

One Of The Best Things About NYCC…

…is this image from the convention program. It made a bunch of us in the press area laugh for a few obvious reasons those of you who go to conventions know all too well. Anyway, the con organizers need a few tips on how to treat us media folk a bit better. Herding us like sheep along with the regular attendees is a bit lousy. Other trade shows and events I’ve attended allow press onto the show floor earlier so we could make appointments and not need to deal with packs of swag-grabbing elbow throwers. Perhaps the organizers can look at those old DigitalLife shows where press and VIP’s were treated with a bit more respect (and hell, MUCH better computer access that wasn’t slower than dial-up. On a 28k modem.) Continue reading

Hmmm… This Is Going To Take A Bit Longer Than I Thought…

Eek. It looks as if the migration didn’t go ALL smoothly, as only the first part of EVERY post over one page was brought over. Oops. I need to go through every single old post and add the rest of the content from Blogger, tweaking the layout for EACH post as I go. Yikes. Well, no use griping about it… off to get some sleep now before jumping back on here and fixing what’s broken.

New Home (Work In Progress)…

I hate moving, but here we are. WordPress seems easy to use so far, but that’s not too surprising considering I’ve contributed to a few blogs that use it. It’ll take a while for me to choose a template that works best for me (I can’t afford to buy into a custom setup just yet) AND manually edit over 1100 posts (eek!) while also adding new content, so please forgive how the blog looks for the next few weeks. Ah, adjustment…

Back In A Bit… Laundry Version

LOTS of news rolling in these past few days, from Xseed nabbing Vanillaware’s Grand Knights History for the PSP (yes!), gog,com having a BIG sale on classic D & D PC titles (BUY!), a lot of other fun game-related stuff that I need to decide what to do with and yes, MORE Facebook changes that may squeeze a poem out of me again. But, the last of my huge pile o’laundry needs to get done along with a review or two, so those will take priority. It’ll be raining all weekend, so expect a few too many updates then (well, for ME, anyway)…
