Random Art: “Ask Mister Owl…”

Sometimes, inspiration comes from the weirdest places. I was on the subway a few weeks back and there was some overly inquisitive kid bugging the crap out of his parents with questions about all sorts of things probably best discussed at home or at least not in a train car packed with people. Anyway, after about the sixth question, the kid’s mom is trying to hand off the next question to the father, but he just does a facepalm and mutters “Ask Mister Owl” under his breath. Of course, the kid didn’t get the joke at all (look it up if you’re younger than oh, 40 and don’t know your TV commercials or candy history) and yes, asked “Who’s Mister Owl?”  Which pretty much cracked anyone sitting nearby (including me) up.

The idea for the MS Paint art above came to me just the other day based on that subway trip, so now you know where I get most of my inspiration. Well sometimes…

Survey Says: Surveys Suck!

You know what I hate about some surveys that SAY they’re gamer-focused? When an old coot like ME puts in his age and gets booted out of the damn thing like I’m no longer a gamer because I don’t fit the target demographic. That’s lame and stupid, as I have a hell of a lot more experience with MORE types of games than a lot of folks who’ll answer all those questions the way the folks running the survey seem to want. I’d like to put a boot up the ass of the folks who think anyone over 40 is useless when it comes to our opinions about games when, hell a LOT of folks my age or close to it are MAKING the damn games being asked about…

Just a thought, grrrr…

Slow Day? Not Really.

Yeah, yeah – I’m behind in posting, but I’ve been running about tackling a few projects, seeing some great games (put Bethesda’s amazing Dishonored on your radar NOW. Arkane Studios is going to surprise the hell out of a lot of people is all I’ll say).

It’s ALSO hot as hell outside and it’s only April. Methinks summer will be a total roaster, but the folks who think climate change is a hoax are still going along with their own versions of things. Let them burn up first, I say. I’m staying inside with a bucket of ice, a lot of water and too many games…

Lazy Day, But Productive (Sort of. Mostly.)

Shhh… I’m supposed to be working on a hands-on preview of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for the Xbox 360, but I got a bit sidetracked with some Wii stuff to day and my writing took a hit for a bit, I checked my stats and for some reason (hey, I got popular!), a nicely amount of new readers clicked on my Sniper Elite V2 hands-on, so that’s good. I have seven games coming next week (eek), a new controller to replace a busted one and I think there’s a press event coming up I need to bug some nice PR person about, so I’ll be busy. Then there’s that little art project I’m trying to get off the ground, but more on that once it gets off the ground…

Back in a bit, Sunday, most likely…

Holding Pattern: Back In A Bit (Now, With Random Art)

Eeek. We’re experiencing some annoying issues with Flash and Windows updates not quite cooperating, so I’m futzing around with my PC trying to set things right. This has naturally, slowed down my usual updating, but I’m still forging ahead, grrrr! Anyway, here’s some random art to ogle that I did the other day while you wait patiently for things to get back to normal. Which shouldn’t take too long (I hope)…

Hanging Out With Adrianne Curry Will Make You Smarter, Smell Better And More Attractive To Others…

How so, you ask?  Well, besides being easy on the eyeballs, incredibly friendly and a great conversationalist about all things gaming related, she’ll make even the most fervent non-believer in science WISH human cloning were possible (and legal). I’ll let you think about that for a minute (tick-tock, tick-tock)… ahem. She’s also the spokesmodel for Erox, a new pheromone-based unisex body spray that’s now available online. I got to meet the lady herself last evening at the Eventi Hotel in NYC but actually spent more time chatting with and listening to Sanjay Sabnani, CEO of Crowdgather, who’s behind the development, marketing and launch of Erox.

Slow & Steady Puts The Turtle To Sleep (Or Something Like That)…

Yes, I’m still chipping away at the reformatting project (old posts never die, they just glare at you intimidatingly until you get around to fixing them up), so I may not post as many updates as I’d like to. I did however, post two trailers for The Darkness 2 over on the other blog if you don’t mind a little ultra-violence with your cup of whatever. Back in a bit…

Bored of Corrections: Oops, Virginia, There IS A Phantasy Star Remake!

Aside

Heh. I figured I’d forgotten something important in that Phantasy Star III article, but thanks to The Sega Dude, I’m saved from my mistake. Yes, Phantasy Star and Phantasy Star II were in fact remade for the Japanese PlayStation 2 as part of the Sega Ages 2500 collection. I’d been ignoring most of these, as I’d played some of the 2500 remakes (a few of which were bundled together and released in the US as Sega Classics Collection) and wasn’t too impressed with how many of the games were redone. Still, now I’ll have to track down those two Phantasy Star remakes at some point just to see how they turned out. Although from quickly scanning over a few articles over the past few minutes, losing the first-person view in PS1 for an overhead view is a kick to the shin for me (ouch!). But I never judge anything these days based on a first impression…

Still Going… (Energizer Non-Bunny Update)

OK, I’m only up to July 2010 in terms of reformatting, but that’s not too bad. Still, when I get to the point where I can start looking at 2011 and seeing where things are (I think October of last year to now are fine as far as the layout goes), then, I’ll be happier. That is all and good night!
