Dragon’s Dogma Class Skills Video Updates: Six More Short Strong Ones…

And here you go: six additional super short to short videos of more skill usage from Capcom’s upcoming action/RPG. Just when you think you’ll be sticking with a melee or archer class, along comes some cool mage spells to cast and there goes your game plan straight out the window. As much fun as these are to watch, I’d actually prefer all these DD clips be combined into one longer video or ones longer than a few seconds each, but hey… it’s Capcom’s world and we’re just living in it. Or we all will be when the game hits retail in May…

Dragon’s Dogma Demo Day Definitely Doable, Says Capcom

Capcom has revealed that a Dragon’s Dogma demo will indeed be made available over PSN and Xbox Live. Back in January, the company issued a press release stating the upcoming game’s release date (May 22, 2012 for North America) and the awesome news that it will come with a Resident Evil 6 demo. The demo will feature two classes (the melee-based Fighter and bow-wielding Strider) and two different areas, each with a huge boss to defeat. Additionally, players will get to check out the party AI system with three allies (Pawns) fighting alongside them. Based on my experiences with last year’s demo, those Pawns are quite necessary, as the bosses are quite mighty (and mighty cheap).

This updated news about the DD demo should please those who haven’t yet had the chance to try the game out at any of the conventions it’s appeared at. More on the game as soon as new news drops into the inbox here. I see that I have some cool DmC news from Capcom, but I’ll post that later today, as I’m about to head out the door…

Asura’s Wrath: Wow. I Bet Jack Kirby Would Have LOVED This Game…

As far as I know, the late, great comic art legend (and creator/co-creator of far too many important characters to count for Marvel, DC and a few other publishers) never did any video game design work. Nevertheless, a lot of game creators around the world have clearly been inspired by Kirby’s work and it’s always fun to play something that manages to nail certain elements in his art perfectly. It’s great to see a game like CyberConnect2’s latest on store shelves that pays homage to The King’s wilder Silver Age art along with his epic “Fourth World” saga, so go support Capcom and give the game a shot, I say.

Sure, it’s easy to think the game is ONLY anime-influenced if you ONLY follow anime and have no sense of comics history. On the other hand, as an ancient comics fan from the late 60’s and beyond playing the game, I’m seeing a bit of New Gods here, some of the Galactus saga there along with the massive scope and scale of the outrageous battles and characters that remind me of Jack’s work. Yup, I’m loving Asura’s Wrath so far – My full review will go up over the weekend.

Asura’s Wrath US Launch Trailer: This Year’s GOD HAND, I Say…

CyberConnect2’s masterpiece mash-up is in stores NOW for the PS3 and Xbox 360, so grab it. My review copy is on the way, so I can’t wait to see how it turned out. I played the demo to death and back, so I have a good idea of what’s coming. Still, I always go into a review with NO expectations, as it helps judge a game based on its own merits and not stacked up to something completely different. Yeah, yeah, I made a GOD HAND reference in the title above, but I meant in terms of how quirky, funny and flat out insanely creative both games ended up.

Belated Valentine’s Day Game Greetings (Because I’m Lazy Like That)

Well, OK. I’m not really THAT lazy, but I do have an overactive spam filter that occasionally eats stuff it shouldn’t. Hmm…. maybe I’ll start a trend here by publishing late holiday cards at random just for fun. Besides, if you’re happy and in loooove with whomever, every day should be Valentines Day is some way, shape or form. So I guess you can consider these cards a friendly reminder you need to remember every now and then. Er, except if you actually kiss like Grimlock. Then, you’d probably end up putting your sweetie in the hospital because you keep chomping his or her face off (ouch!)

Final Four Street Fighter X Tekken Characters, Release Dates Revealed

No huge surprises here, but the addition of Street Fighter’s M. Bison and Akuma plus Tekken’s Jin and Ogre brings the tally to 38 fighters… which to me, means we’ll probably see some more coming via DLC down the road from Capcom.  Er, not that 38 fighters is anything to sneeze at, mind you. It’s just that between the two fighting franchises, methinks there are some other characters that are MIA for any number of reasons. Of course, Namco’s upcoming Tekken X Street Fighter may also bring in a few of these new challengers, so we’ll need to see what up with that still in development follow-up at some point…

Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 (Vita) Gameplay: Your Wallet Now Has A Hole Punched In It…

So, how does Capcom’s ridiculously awesome (and near seizure-inducing) fighting game extravaganza look on the PlayStation Vita?  Outstanding, I say (go take a look for yourself if you haven’t already). You can almost feel that wallet in your pocket or purse get lighter with each hit and in fact, if you’re watching this gameplay footage outside, don’t be surprised if you feel dizzy, pass out and wake up in an alley somewhere with yes, your wallet (and phone) gone missing. Or maybe you DID take a wrong turn while walking from the subway and and watching this trailer only to get conked on the head and robbed blind by a pack of unruly street urchins. Which means you really NEED a Vita and a copy of UMvC3 so you can learn some decent fighting moves for the next time you get distracted like that…

Dragon’s Dogma Coming In May (With A Resident Evil 6 Demo Along For The Ride…)

Well, well, well… we have a release date! Capcom as announced that Dragon’s Dogma will hit retail in the North America on May 22, 2012 and will include a playable Resident Evil 6 demo (excellent) which will HOPEFULLY be on the disc and NOT some download-only nonsense that’s used to track new copies of DD or something like that. I’m actually happy to see a demo actually come out before the game, as it’s been an unfortunate trend over the last few years to ship out a demo too close to the release date (or well after in some cases). Then again, a lot of developers dislike making demos for a number of reasons (as you’ll find out if you get a chance to talk to a few every so often).  Of course, I’m already reading about the usual skeptics who think Capcom is sticking a RE demo on DD to automatically sell a ton of copies of a game that might not be that great. But I’ll be the first to go after those naysayers with a rolled up newspaper if they said that without laying a finger on the actual game.

Anyway, another one for the radar – Thanks, Capcom!

Dragon’s Dogma Story Trailer Teaser

Capcom’s been cooking this one up for a while and while the full version of this trailer won’t be revealed until 1/31, they’re releasing this short tease to get you all worked up (and rightly so). I’m also gathering they’ve been tightening up the gameplay significantly from the demo versions I played last year, as there were a few issues that needed ironing out. Then again, a demo is just that, and in no way signifies the quality of the final build. PS3 and Xbox 360 owners will get to see that for themselves as Capcom is promising a “flood of Dragon’s Dogma info on the way!”

Well, that means I’ll be posting it when it splashes around in my inbox…

Capcom Reveals Surprising Exclusive Characters For PS3/Vita Street Fighter X Tekken

Capcom has a really great sense of humor, that’s for sure… but I’ll bet real money a lot of Mega Man fans’ heads are exploding big time. The blue bomber is indeed a playable character in the upcoming Street Fighter X Tekken, but it’s the Bad Box Art version instead of the more familiar MM. Color me supremely tickled at this. Also amusing, seeing Sony’s Toro and Kuro (characters from a series of cute games never released in the US) and Pac-Man (!), who’s probably the biggest surprise of them all. Then again, now that I think about it, Klonoa should have been in the game as well as Tomba just to show some classic PlayStation love. Oh well, there’s always DLC or some sort of updated version down the road. Or heck, Tekken X Street Fighter, Namco’s companion piece to SF X T that’s still in development…
