Some (Trouble-Free) Adventurezator Impressions…

So, I haven’t gotten into much trouble at all with the beta version of Pigasus Game’s awesome Adventurezator, but I’m certainly having a blast playing around with this game creation kit in progress. While it needs a bit more work before it’s ready for prime time, as an easy to use adventure game creation tool, it’s coming along quite nicely. In the current build, it’s best to play the included scenario-based game just to see how the inventory and object interaction work before diving into the editing function and getting all “I’ve got a story!” on this software. Creating characters (or “actors”, but you don’t have to call them that because you’re not paying them and they’re not making ends meet as wait staff somewhere) is super simple (although the game needs more variety in hairstyle and clothing options) and you can even whip up masks using your own image files if you’re feeling really creative…

Cut scene making may be a bit trickier if you’re a complete novice to this sort of thing. On the other hand, if you’ve ever played around with any movie or music editing software, putting together an opening to be proud of is also simple stuff. The options are fairly broad here, but as with learning anything new, it becomes second nature with some practice. The really fun part comes from creating 3D levels to set your story in, as the game’s scripting system takes care of the hard work provided you’re paying attention to what YOU want to do within your tale of whatever. You’ll need a door and/or windows in that room, for starters if you’d like to get in or outside that space, perhaps some other actors to interact with and maybe even some of the automatically generated conflict the game provides when certain pieces are in place.

I’ve only done one half-assed adventure about a pig trying to not let some wolf-like salesman into his home with the arrival of some assistance from a hunter making his rounds as a foil, but I can see plenty of gamers getting their brains cooking up some magnificent and ready to publish gems. I actually have a few old stories I want to dink around with, but I’m holding out for the actual complete release for the dev team to iron out all the kinks and get the game as polished as possible. I’m really hoping this does well enough on Steam that there’s some sort of console version that arrives. Heck, I’d LOVE to see how this fares on the PS3 or Wii U where you KNOW you’d want to see certain licensed characters appear as potential “actors”. Playing in this sandbox has been pretty amazing so far and this one comes recommended as an instant BUY whether you grab it from the official site or the game’s Steam page.

Signing off for now… there’s a pig in a poke and I think he’s mad at me for putting him into a pickle… back in a bit.
