Transistor_19-mar-2013_01Meet Red, heroine of Supergiant Games‘ currently in development action/RPG, Transistor. That’s a mighty big sword she’s swinging, isn’t it? Turns out that weapon is integral to the plot, as it was previously used in an attempt to kill the poor gal, but she survived and is out to find out who wanted her dead and why they used such a damn big butter knife when an accidentally dropped piano would have done the job. OK, so THAT piano stuff is probably not part of the plot (I hope), but those of you who played Supergiant’s amazing Bastion on any platform it ended up on know that Transistor will be a spectacular and memorable experience. Keep an eye on this one, folks – it’s going to be one for the ages, I predict…

And speaking of Bastion, in case you’re curious about this award winning instant classic, you can get it for whatever you want to pay (well, a dollar or more) as this week’s Humble Weekly deal over at the always great Humble Bundle site. I’ve played the game on a friend’s PC, but thanks to a crap connection at home, I’ve never actually OWNED a copy until today thanks to some loot in the PayPal account and a solid wi-fi link at the library here. Whee! Depending on how much you pay, many cool bonuses are available from digital to physical goodies, so poke around that order page, support indie developers and make a few people (including yourself) SMILE today.

Hmmm… my formerly underused Steam account has been getting more use these days, which is a good thing, as I’m not too fond of digital-only games outside the convenience factor. I’m still hoping one fine day the collectors out there can see both this and Transistor on a single disc with some cool extras because hell, we’re silly enough to pay MORE for physical goodies because we know it takes more cash to create them. Anyway, go get your copy of Bastion, play it and prepare to be surprised at how much it eats away at your free time. And makes you appreciate gaming a wee bit more and more…
