Super Fighter Team Brings Two More Genesis Games To Light!

Hot on the heels of releasing Nightmare Busters the first new Super Nintendo game in many years, Out of the blue, Super Fighter Team has announced not one, but TWO upcoming Sega Mega Drive/Genesis games have become available for pre-order with a 2015 release in the cards. I woke up (late!) to this news, so I’m still pinching myself to see if I’m awake. OUCH. Yes, it’s true!

More below the jump (OUCH)…

CASCADE_logoCASCADE is a dice-based puzzler set in space, where your skill will be judged by wacky aliens. The game was developed by the awesome talents at Epyx (California Games, Blue Lightning), and initially slated for release only in Japan. That’s a screen from CASCADE on the top left. I do love my puzzle games, so this one’s going to get added to the library.

MAGIC GIRL logoMagic Girl (Featuring Ling Ling The Little Witch) is a vertical shooter that puts you in the role of a young girl fighting to save her entire planet from certain doom. This game was developed by Gamtec in Taiwan. In addition to translating the game into English, Super Fighter Team have also fixed a few bugs that plagued the Chinese original. That’s Magic Girl on the top right and yes, I’m a shmup fan as well. I’m betting Eric and Heidi and a bunch of others will all be smiling when they see this news…

BOTH games will come in a cart format and should fit any Genesis or Mega Drive console (or similar variant that plays these games). A full color manual and card stock box (as found in late Sega Genesis releases) is also included, so you’ll want to make a special place in your library for this pair. I guess I need to re-interview Brandon about these new games, as it’s been a few years since that happened. Okay, let me fall out of bed and bounce around the room for a bit. Yeah, it’s a late start on this first day of Daylight Savings, but it’s a darn good one with news like this.

  1. You nailed it 🙂 I was smiling when I saw this news! It’s always exciting to see new old retro stuff get released. The games are a bit expensive but there aren’t many of them so it’s easy enough to keep up.
I’m also pleased to see that you know and seem to like Epyx. I’ve never heard of this company before and I was worried about the quality of Cascade. Being who you are geelw I have a lot more confidence in this game now!

Yeah, Epyx was pretty awesome back in the day as you’ll see from that looooooong list of games. It’s too bad they had legal issues, as they were a really talented bunch of people. I’m gathering as Cascade isn’t on that list, that page may need an update once the game comes out…
