Ha ha. OK, I had to do that horrid spelling job in the header as a little in-joke even I don’t get and yep, it’s another pre-show title to save time because I just KNOW Jimmy’s going to lose it and fail at another game live on TV. Anyway, saving the Wii U for his final post=E3 Game Week show meant this was either going to be a blowout for Nintendo because more people stayed home to watch OR… a bust because they were all out clubbing or whatever the crazy kids do on a Friday night (har har). Anyway, the 20-Ryu Hadouken/cartridge blowing/toothbrush circle bits was dumb and funny (and all those “World Records” they set WILL be broken over the weekend, I bet). That multiple video games “record” bit was stupidly awesome, though. Jimmy “played” six games all at once for twenty seconds and looked as if he was trying to escape from robbing a vintage game shop and ran into an arcade only to be trapped on a Dance Dance Revolution Supernova machine. Or something like that – just watch the video:
See? Now go break THAT record, Mr. or Ms. Guinness…
During the Jason Statham interview (where he revealed he’s in the next Fast & the Furious movie – wait, what? they’re making ANOTHER one? Yeesh!), Jimmy “challenged” him to an arm wrestling match in another skit. After the break, some sportsball dude came out and blah, blah-ed for a few minutes (I don’t watch sports, so I kind of blanked out there, sorry)… I think Jimmy got a jersey, but my eyelids were drooping. Until after that last commercial break when they popped back open for the game content I came to see.
Jimmy came back from the break with Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Amie, who showed off the Wii U with two upcoming titles: Game & Wario (yeah, Jimmy stunk at it) and Super Mario 3D World with Reggie basically pulling most of the weight in the demo (yeah, Jimmy still sucked in his overly giddy “Wait, what? Halp!” manner). The game DOES look cute and addictive, I’ll admit… but I’m betting it’s not going to be quite the “Game of the holidays” Jimmy noted (well, unless you’re a Nintendo fan). Finally, the show closed with a cool musical performance from ZEDD, who did a funky Legend of Zelda themed music/video performance that started slow before changing into a club-worthy mix.
Overall, it was a decent enough week of new games revealed, but as I noted earlier, I wish the show had longer segments on those new titles, as it’s impossible to grasp everything with all the excited fast talking and bad playing going on. Then again, I stink at playing some games live myself at press events, so it’s not as if I’m a better gamer than poor Jimmy. Then again, I never get any sleep the night before a press event, so that explains a lot (at least on my side of the fence)…
