(Thanks, BrittneyGilbert!)
So, I’m working on a long post about the demise of movie theaters in the area where I live because it just blows my mind to bits that something like fifteen to twenty or more cinemas around here are gone for what seems to be good and it’s a total joke that no one seems to care or mind. Granted, those people who don’t give a crap are a big part of the reason why theaters are vanishing from this part of NYC, but tell them that and they tend to get a bit more obnoxious than they would if you told them to shut off their damned cell phone BEFORE they even bought their tickets. Anyway, mini-rant over (although it’s not really a rant at all)… Back in a bit.

I read something about cell phone usage at the movies in the NY Times last weekend. I think Philip Galanes agrees with you.

The first time I saw video on a phone was in late 2003 or early 2004 at a press event and I recall shaking my head and wondering what sort of human moles we’d see after about 15-20 years of that nonsense (remember those old phones with the airmail stamp-sized screens?). Mobile screens have gotten bigger and better, but I can’t imagine watching a classic epic on a small screen and missing so much detail even on the sharpest screen. Some movies are meant to be seen on either a big screen or at worst, a nice TV where you can sit with your arm around a sweetie and not have to worry about stepping in dog poop or into an open manhole. Ah well…

I agree. I try to go to the movies to see movies.

You’re in a dying breed, it seems. Well, you’ll be wanting to camp out with nothing but movies after that long walk you’re going to take! Good luck! I ordered a copy of your book (physical, as I don’t own a reader). Once it pops up, I’ll dive in. Looking forward to that trip.
