Ugh. So, a few days ago we got a nice snowfall and today we got temperatures up a bit and a nasty rain for a good part of the day. Of course, it wasn’t enough to melt the snow and it was slippery and gray and suicidal walking weather the rest of the day. Looking outside now, the sky is an awful yellowy gray and the forecast has temperatures dropping way past freezing (as in close to zero or so in some areas). Which means ALL that yucky gray slush will turn to super slippery and super lumpy ice to skate and dance on badly by Tuesday. Wonderful. If I don’t break my head or bust my ass on the way to the library this week, I may post some fun stuff.
The ONLY good thing is I don’t have to worry about freezing my behind or other parts off because I know THE secret to not being cold when it’s very cold out. NO it’s not booze. Booze makes you drunk and colder and dead if you’re tipsy and slipsy on the icy pavement and fallsy on your head or slidesy under a moving bus skidding towards the bus stop sideways on the bumpy, lumpy ice that was slush and a few days before that, snow…
The secret, is… (wait for it): Fleece. Fleece is your friend. Buy one or two good pair of fleece lined pants (so you can alternate), a fleece shirt, and either a nice fleece jacket you can wear under a heavier coat or a fleece lined coat. Add in gloves and a hat (FLEECE!) and you don’t need to go out looking like a slow-moving Michelin Man or Woman AND you’ll actually feel warm as you zip around faster than anyone else. You choice of footwear, of course, as I don’t know how you travel and how far. Anyway, it was a wee bit too treacherous to get out and exercise today, so I cut that short (boo). Tomorrow I need to get out early and do a pile of laundry (boo), but that will be half of my exercise routine taken care of. The rest will be a nice walkabout for the body and more meaningful posts for my brain. Of course, you don’t get anything out of this other than the “pleasure”of reading what I come up with, so I guess that’s some sort of happy medium?
Eh, off to beat up on some demons. See you tomorrow.

MTM bought me fleece-lined slippers for Christmas. I forgot I had them on and wore them to the coffee shop today……oopsie. We’re getting some really cold weather here, for us anyway, starting tomorrow. Here’s to warmer days very soon.

Oh we’re getting that cold up here, too. I woke up at 6:13am and it was about 49 degrees (down from 55 earlier). Tonight it’s supposed to be 5. F-I-V-E. And that’s before the wind chill, whee! I need a fleece lined brain at this point. A few years back I once wore some fleece pants liners from a snow outfit as regular pants all day with a pajama top with a fleece shirt over it when I was writing in a Starbucks and no one said a thing other than one guy who walked by with his wife or girlfriend and said “See, HE looks warm!”
I bet they woke up earlier and saw that cold wind blowing the branches about and he THOUGHT he was going to be able to wear his fleece like that and she wasn’t having any of it. She was wearing of those ankle-length puffy down coats that looked like Mrs. Darth Vader’s life jacket, huge snow boots, Eskimo mittens and a big fur hat, while he was just in a varsity jacket and jeans with a cap and scarf. It was probably about 20-25 degrees, but she was dressed like she raided the United Nations coat check during a blizzard. And yep – their car was about 10 feet from the door…
