While patching console games seems to be the new black these days, it’s rare that you see reviews of that patch being used in an ad. Actually, this is the first time I’ve ever seen this and I thought it was a joke until I poked around online a bit. Somehow, this is hilarious and terrifying and annoying all at the same time. Anyway, you can grab your own copy of Persona 4 Arena HERE. Of course, you need an Xbox Live account in order to grab that patch, but you already know that, correct?

It must have harboured some truly heinous bugs, to warrent anykind of review?! Good thing no one reviews Bethesda’s attempts!

From what I saw, it was a netcode fix that took care of issues with the 360 version having some lag and/or matchmaking issues, which is “major” if you’re playing online. offline, the game is fine. Atlus has been fighting with fans on a few fronts about this game, even asking US gamers not to import the Japanese version because it would hurt their bottom line if enough units of the localized version didn’t sell.

What a surprise that the patches were instigated, not for fans benifit, but for finacial gain.

Oh, don’t get me wrong – the patch was indeed for the fans. But there was a bit of minor controversy caused by some folks who were planning a boycott of the US version in favor of picking up the Japanese one for some reasons including a lower price point (thanks to the Yen being in poor shape these days). This is actually a bad idea in general, as no publisher outside a territory makes a dime on any import purchase.
Atlus was addressing that issue and trying to nip it in the bud before it could damage any sales of the US version. Nothing wrong with that at all, as I’m all for not having Atlus’ US branch affected by poor territory sales of a game that deserves better.
