Well, here it is, folks – the new RoboCop trailer in all its glory. For me, the jury is still out as the film LOOKS good (in that “we used a LOT of CG!” manner) and it definitely shakes up the original’s origin story significantly in terms of how Murphy gets his metal suit and why it’s now black in the new flick.
On the other hand, it also shares that very similar (and yes, slightly long in the tooth) thematic stuff many of these sci-fi remakes are afflicted with where it’s one man (or many) against the evil, rotten corporate scum who don’t give a rat’s ass about the little people. Cue dramatic music, explosions and bodies falling off stuff. But in PG-13 instead of R-rated violence because that gets more asses in the seats at the end of the day. That and yup, expect this to clock in at under two hours because less time means more showings per day as well. Any bonus footage is coming in the “Unrated” home video version, I’d bet you a hot nickel…
Of course, I’m at the jaded point in my movie going life where I hope to see these genre flicks do a bit more than shine up the visuals and add a modern twist to their plots that don’t really surprise anyone who hasn’t seen a movie trailer before. Then again, I’m also open to any film that does something unique with old material, so I’m hoping this remake/reboot gets what it’s aiming for right on target and the folks who loved the original who want it to die horribly at the box office will at least give it a chance. Of course, we get Samuel L. Jackson here in a James Brown wig and suit for some of his trademark comic/dramatic relief (which made me chuckle last week when I saw this image):
Naturally, as soon as I stopped cracking up, I immediately thought that when The Running Man finally gets remade (this time as a clone of The Hunger Games with some clever recasting), its producers can hire Jackson with that wig and suit he’s wearing to play the Richard Dawson part and no one would be the wiser. And yeah, Schwarzenegger will ABSOLUTELY be in that remake as well – probably as a villain, at that. I say he’d be a great Dynamo, as I can’t see that accent making for a good Captain Freedom. Give that part to some ex-WWF/WWE wrassler and it’s all good. Anyway, February 7, 2014 is when RoboCop blasts into theaters… or you can hold out until what, June or July for the Blu-Ray/DVD…

Is it just me or look Mr Jackson indeed like a angry, black Mitt Romney on this picture? O.o
